surrendering
to the broom
of the wind—

sweeping
frail flakes asunder;
reclaiming
demurred dusty desires—
yet frozen sheets
refuse to succumb
to ironing winds
of time’s bed
and its juxtaposed
spread—
steadfast slip stretched: 
strange laws have nature....

in his brown reclining chair.

Birds cut low through the morning sky.

Knowingly,

rain will soon fall.

Lingering,
he grapples with mortality,
as death's cloak falls over him.

The storm breaks hard.
