Premium Member Donald Duck

One day fickle Donald Duck
was down on his luck
he chewed on a juicy hot chili
forgot quickly about his melancholy

Bad Luck Duck

There was a duck down on his luck
Who froze in the back of a truck
When found back in town
They said with a frown
There was not enough down on the duck!

Route 66ish No 16

In Phoenix a guy called 'Old Buck'
Was feeling quite down on his luck,
So to fill in some time
He wrote a new rhyme
Called 'Old age? Well now don't that just suck'!

There once was a middle aged duck,
Who was just feeling down on his luck,
For himself he felt sorry,
But got hit by a lorry,
And became something that someone could pluck!

Thomas Edison

Tom sat there eating the last of his bread,
wondering if the next day he'd get fed,
felt like a dumb cluck,
down on his luck,
till a light went off the top of his head.

A Far Cry

A Far Cry

A far cry from home
A man sat drinking
Up a storm
2o drinks too sober

Down on his luck
Living by his wits
Down and out

On the street
Of fabled Bangkok
Just another loser

Flotsam white boy
Lost in inner space

Out of his mind
Dreaming dark dreams

As he continued to drink
A far cry from home

Premium Member Shame Died Today

Consumed by doubt, down but not out
Swig of whiskey tickles the throat
                                      rags for a coat

Down on his luck, surviving on pluck
     Bums another cigarette
                     breaks out in cold sweat

   Begs unabashedly
     points to you and me
     Inside, you shudder
       ~ unashamed, I flee

Drinking booze
    Chasing skirts
  What's there to lose
    How can it hurt

  Away from home
    for the very first time
  With room to roam
    on his parents' dime

  Years later, he's clueless
    and down on his luck
  Homeless and shoeless
    but by one thought struck

  He'd lost his way
    ruined his life forever
  Hedonism's not horseplay
    It's simply not very clever

Premium Member Enough Is Enough

A down-on-his-luck man frequently visits a tavern to drown his sorrows in alcohol. The bartender has grown accustomed to his face. He always drinks more than he should, and it shows. One fine day, he gets finally banned. He comes back the next day; the bartender orders him to leave and never come back.

My Love For Dogs

I love each one of my dogs I do!
they love me back I know its true
I will never question their love for me
or their undying loyalty.

People can say all they want to say
about my dogs and their doggie ways
without them here my life would suck
I would be like a fool down on his luck.

so dont get between my dogs and I
instead just try to see eye to eye
oh how wonderful it would be
if you shared my love for dogs with me.

What I Didn'T Say

A thousand chirping birds
have landed in the grass
Some are showing their beaks
Some are showing their sass

My neighbor needs a ride
He is down on his luck
He don't give to the poor
So I don't give a truck

My ex stands at four foot four
With no effort to be blunt
She says I'm kind of dumb
I say she's kind of a runt

I ate up all our pickles
My wife sure had a big fit
I said I'm full of pickles
But she says I'm full of spit

The fall of life

Once in a while we see a man down on his luck.
Only to see ourselves look in the window next to him and duck.

What a shame to know that you are no better off than the man down on his luck.
No need to hide and sulk.

Life is but a figment of time.
While luck has no time.

There is no better way to see life through a child's eye's.
Man or Woman makes their own luck not time

Time knows ño age.
Just like luck knows no time.
We are only visitors of our own minds.

Sprawled

Whenever I see someone
Sprawled on a bench,
Exposed to the elements,
Hands in a clench,

I wonder if long ago,
Curled in his crib
Or perched in his high chair,
With drips on his bib,

A mom or a dad,
With the tenderest gaze,
Saw their hopes for their son
Mapped in various ways.

They certainly never
Imagined him stuck
On a bench in a city park,
Down on his luck.

Few passersby stop,
(And yes, that includes me)
Rarely thinking about
How such things come to be.

Cape Mendocino

Cape Mendocino

The westernmost tip of California
hard to reach
except by Google earth
the usual method of exploration
these days.

The Point Arena Library
where I hung my words upon
the Poet Tree
growing in the entrance
hardly noticed.

A fellow
down on his luck
the beloved companion
of a wire haired dog
with bad breath
and crooked teeth

Both sitting beneath a leaf
of William Carlos Williams.
So much depends upon
this little dog
for the man
glazed with rain.

I sit watch want to weep
seeing you sitting on the street
with cane made of wood
hand carved not very good
a banged up sign in hand
sitting unable to stand
cars just pass you by
my heart wants to cry
no one worrying how you fare
a world that does not care
two cigarettes in a empty hat
hair tangled in a mat
 you sit wish me well
as you sit for a spell
a homeless man down on his luck
hoping to get even a buck
i took him coffee wished him well
he was grateful I could tell.
