Oktobre Fest

When he had her over a barrel
She complained that it was not feral
But once on a keg
She commenced to beg
Too wild would result in his peril!

Tree Ring Circus

Donald Trump was as stumped as a man can be
"How could LeBron James be anything like me?"
A wise old owl
Commenced to howl
"Quite different branches grow on the same tree!"

kitty cat Christmas Tree

Mewing and meowing commenced right away
The second they built a kitty cat Christmas tree that day
Yawning and sleeping happened in every kitty slot.
Some of them fell off their risers, it happened a lot.

The Greatest Gift

The Greatest Gift

Of and above the many multitude of all

Is surely the inherent gift or will

To try and make sense

After engagement has commenced

Hence

A gift truly worthy of both

Giving
&
Recieving

In equal amount

Rest

In a slow, venomous infusion,
No trace was left to find.
The heart's rhythm started fading,
As the final breath escaped the nostrils,
The body lay there, motionless,
Pain drifting into distant realms.
In silence, unheard and unseen,
Eternal slumber commenced,
A rest from which there is no return.

September

Its September
Where is your rain muse ?
weve got our Autumn here
I'm drawing a line
on Summer past
like some bedraggled dragon
its chore has commenced
The buddleia is slightly drawn
and the red roses have died down
The Fern tree is re-splendid
in its promise
potted under my Robina
There's spinach and broad beans
for spring

Yuzawa, Japan / Ryokan Onsen / Fall 2008

The overcast sky wept quietly.
It’s tears joining with the Earth’s breathe.
Mountain peaks and ridges covered with evergreens
pierced the roiling, gray firmament.

Parasoled people paraded past shops,
selling candied ginger and quince.
Road weary tourists bathed their frozen feet
in street side hot springs
And, so, the day commenced.

Inner Quset

I started a quest,
and finally sent u a request.
I found request confirmation,
and then started the real hesitation.
but still I commenced to flirt,
on my surprise, replies weren't curt.
But then,
I knowingly stepped into a sudden silence,
unexpectedly u broke that silence.
everything was moving smooth again,
NO, I was in love, but in vain.

Leviathan

A spray that glistened brightly in the sun alerted us to what lay just below. So close was he, we thought we’d surely run headlong, colliding with a forceful blow. And then, as if to say I’m not yet done, his tail appeared: a curtain call for show. We braced, assuming we were impact-bound; instead, leviathan commenced to sound.

Alas I Sigh . . .

I walked the golden mile
Where I sought to be
Without a notion who marred
Familiarity drew endlessly further away
So incomplete I eventually became

So unquestionably I commenced
Yet vacant I ended
Without even a doubt
I determinedly stood apart

My heart bleeds
Vile words enter
Mediocrity somewhat dreamlike

My world
Falls apart:

Anarchy

An Opinion

An Opinion
By: Tom
9-20-2019

With the advent of social media,
the declivity of society commenced.
We spew fake news from the shadows,
and faceless people become convinced.

Many are consumed by a mobile device,
To the point they can no longer relate.
Each day we see our social skills fade,
and discussion is the victim of dictate.

Thou Shalt Not

Five minutes after God wrote the very first commandment.
His kids commenced to slaughter each other.

Sometime later,
a great thinker stood forth and said:
“Hey guys do you think He really meant it?”

“Of course” said one
“Naw” said another vehemently.

One touchy fellow said they were both wrong!

Things got heated.

War broke out, the killing resumed.

Simple Lick

i licked the head
of my pen
then commenced
to imagining
diving deep
into my mind
with no telling
what i would find
eyes that flittered
mind that fluttered
hand that held
a pen that stuttered
with nary a
question why
i wrote down
what came to mind
and that which did
come to mind
poured itself
out in rhyme
to think all this
started with
a simple lick
of the pen

Exceeding Hope

Miracles lift a sullen mind and spirits touch the doors of the doleful heart
tears of the rain subside and rays of the sun surely enlighten the soul of desperation
longing for departure of adversities, restoration of wellbeing will commenced
hope has its power and will earmark it’s cornerstones to create blessings
upon which prayers can exceed hopelessness and become a pillar

Vague

The poor cloud pouring tears in form of rain
Said someone, "He must be in pain"
Another recalled, "but his happiness was in the lamp
Safe & arcane"
Commenced the wise, "but now it's in vain
Don't you remember the presence of hurricane?
Almost impossible, the removal of the stain
Truth for the humans, for the vampires, vervain!
Cause here's July, the reason for everyone's disdain!"

FOUR CUBED

FOUR CUBED

Four words a line,
Four lines a stanza.
Four of these comprise
Ms. Hawley’s next extravaganza.

Three words won’t satisfy;
Five are too numerous.
And, one more condition,
She’d like it humorous.

That’s two verses done
And I’ve barely commenced.
It’s not my nature
To write lines condensed.

But, if she insists,
I’ll follow her law.
Sixty one, sixty two,
Sixty three, sixty four.

Change

I see the smoke exiting my lungs passing my lips, barely there now.
I feel the change coming over me.
I battle I must face.
My combat has commenced.
I will no longer sit on the fence.
I say farewell to friends.
Friends who are going to war.
I will pray rosaries for you.
I will go to your funerals.
But now I turn my back and walk the other direction.
I have my own fight to fight.
And I have my own light to light.

How It Commenced

How it commenced

Some fish found it difficult to breaths
Underwater, they swam ashore and rested
Later they crawled to the garden of Eden
Where grew hands and feet

The post office is an oasis of harmony caused
By women staff who work slowly.

The fish now transformed into humans
Expelled the weakest link they got no hearing
Or discharged into the jungle of mangled words.
Those who lack intelligence suffer ignobly.

Run for Your Life

I heard their engines before they got to the hill.
Devil monsters with eyes that freeze me in place still.
I had seen them before, hoped to never see them again.
Thumping their chests, they brought scary with them.

Screaming commenced as the people saw the bikes.
Last time they came they had mowed down our trikes.
I had hoped to never see them again said Mayor Fife.
Run! I yelled as loudly as I could. “Run for your Life!”

Metamorphosis

Commenced
as a tiny
egg glued to foliage.
Maturing bondage in a shell
awaits

Larva.
Eating, growing,
full size caterpillar
outgrows its present confines.
Splitting

 Again.
Reattaching
itself with liquid from
its spinneret . Creating a
button.

hanging
little pupa
dieting, motionless,
metamorphosing completely
anew

Cracking,
exposing head
and thorax first. Followed
by legs and golden wings of a
Monarch.

Is Soupmail Still Private

IS SOUPMAIL STILL PRIVATE

How do non - members get into soup,
Somewhere in the system there’s a loop,
And ask you to contact them please,
It makes one to not feel at ease,
This person does not exist on Poetry Soup!

Since I commenced with this friendly troop,
Had two or three mails, outside of our group,
I just ignore them, but it happens, how?
Do others get them, good to know now,
For I am sure none of us want a snoop.

A Vicious Pink

A flamboyance gathered at the lagoon.
Wading patiently for their briny food.
The sun arrived to gently wake the earth.
A warmth commenced to break night's curse...
All was quiet until the blue troupe stealthily arrived.
With blood and devils in their eyes...
The stalk quickly evolved into chase.
For its the will of brutes to
snap the neck of grace...
A baboon king proudly struts about.
pink feathers lining its vicious mouth.
