Trimming

Clipping, smoothing, pruning; silly
dilly-dallies that people do.
Gross lessons in futility
achieved. And Oh!, tis true, tis true!

I saw the workers come out today
They’re from New England
Four seasons in the year
They came clipping flowers
Some saved for the next year no doubt

Snip, Snip, Clip, Clip

Sound scissors make,
each time they are
opened and closed…

Snipping out and ad
or clipping the hair…

Snip, snip, clip, clip…

Walking up the hill
Head on straight
Strapping on gloves
Sitting on the gate
Clipping in the petals
locking up the brakes
leaning
standing
sweating
shaking
waiting
and then
Slam

Don’t make things lighter
by clipping your wings
The jet stream is calling,
 truth in the wind

Drop the excuses,
there’re reasons to blame
You can’t kill the darkness
—banning the flame

Premium Member Thunder

"Be still my heart!"
The thunder, the splatter,
all the drenching liquid matter --

then the storm passes,
and out come beautiful lasses,
clipping roses for bonnets,
choosing beaus for dearer sonnets -- it's really about love --

Freedom Deserts

Chasing the crown,
sitting the throne
—regal opposed

Pursuit once free,
capture enslaves
—jailer demands

Clipping one wing,
grounding the wish
—motion suppressed

Weight pushing down,
hope abandoned
—freedom deserts

(Strafford Pennsylvania: February, 2017)

Progression

Eradicate the
Dark Disciple and
Forgo clipping my wings.

Naturally light and
Weightless
I traverse this
Medium quite smoothly.

Unavoidable,
Attended to and
Never misled.

This is my hope.

Silent

i'm the editor
of your movie
clipping out
takes to take
you home
with me
leaving
splices
for the
public
to see

that you
are the
star that
you are
but a star
is a sun
and
truth
knows
you are
the moon

in your
fullness
from the
other side
your hips
turn me
into a
lunatic

Face 2 Face

Rage, emotions boiling.
Mind, whirling, toiling.
Control slipping.

Hands clenching
Guts wrenching
Voices clipping.

Must run
Must fight
Must not give in.

Face 2Facw
The only way
To tame the rage

Catch the inner voices
Find the cage
Keep the key

Gain control
Prove your mastery

My Story

I sense that there are stories
Bigger and more grand
than I can comprehend
That I'm a part of somehow

But I only see this

Cooking my lunch
Clipping my nails
Thinking of unpaid bills
And unwashed dishes

Feeling smaller still
With no heroic deeds
Just living my life
Utterly normal indeed

Is this my story?

Premium Member Hooked On The Moon

the brightest toe nail clipping
in the sky the moon two points
one hook where by a dangling
dangler of collar and tie swung
a swinging caught he estranged
and left forgottenly o deranged
for he deranged and hanging
there saw stars drift past and
faces wear the smirk n smook
of laughtrous jeer that when
finally loose broke out a cheer

Premium Member Away In the Garden

Away in the garden
No plants are ill fed
The soil is perfect
In all the raised beds

The fencing surrounds
All of the plants
But something burrowed
Who invited the ants

There’s chewing and clipping
At night while I rest
Just wait til’ I get
My hands on that pest

I fired the shotgun
To nab me a bun
Don’t mess with my garden
Run rabbit run

Premium Member In Their Dna

Women spend a lifetime managing every penny. Clipping coupons, going to sales, in the spirit of saving a buck. I wish I had access to one now and forever more, to keep me out of the financial muck. Mama’s boys what we men want, is buying with what they saved us, expensive toys. Hope I learn to appreciate the little things women can do,because it’s in their DNA to see us through.

Looking For Specials.....

Finding sale items
clipping coupons
2 fer 1 is great when find 'em

Short in the pantry
tripping to foodbank
lines are longer now for gantry

Top ramen special
10 for a dollar
loading up as noodle cartel

Stick a feather
in my cap
and call me "macaroni".....

Sunset In Pacific

Shine in waves till lost
Warp dying in sunset
Green and red mountains
Sparkle in white blue cloud

Mountains in sky dreams land
Lips touch to calm waves wash soil
Tender breath soon in tears
Soon hope to burn itself

Deep in the water the tiny cloud rose
Blooming flowers dance in its shadow
Clipping each wings fly against current
As white sparkles swings the boat
Greet magic of sunset in Pacific

Premium Member Black Hole

There was, and is, a dark black hole resides in her somewhere;
he was not sure if it was in her heart or in her soul
but he was gravitated to her captivating stare
attracted to the only Black Moor in the goldfish bowl
as were many others clipping her event horizon
she, bending the light, the truth, the lies; until non escape
and he was never clear if he was father, lover, son
or simply, to her, yet another planetary ape.

Raven

The sky felt dense,

The mood it gave off,

Like moths in hue,

And butterflies in pale,

The showering of haze,

Over us at ease,

It’s not seen,

And there I won’t be seen,

The morning routine,

Of the everlasting gloom,

The day stuck in reprises,

And another one it seems,

It flies by scoring petrified faces,

Clipping by the nests,

It stays there,

For it, I won’t.

Poem “Raven” By Sarah Shahzad, January 2023

100 Year Old Rosewood Door

That Hundred-year-old rosewood door,
Imported from Brazil and hung before the civil war,
according to the local folklore,
It was a magnificent reddish brown wooden door.
That adorned the front of a liquor store.
An Old newspaper clipping humorously
describes the terrific uproar.
And the gore when a hundred local women or more
stormed that liquor store they were unhinged
when they ripped down that old rosewood door
After that day never more
did that liquor store open its door

Ambitions

Ambitions oft get put on hold
For there are many strings
By which our freedom is controlled,
A clipping of our wings.

But sometimes we must take the blame
When laziness pokes through.
In that case we can’t really claim
There’s nothing we can do.

The projects waiting for a start
May languish months or years
When motivation falls apart
Or up and disappears.

It’s great to have ambitions
And an end to which we strive
But the best of all magicians
Can’t keep every goal alive.

Premium Member I'm Not Me When I'm Blue

Stealth and insidious
Slithery venomous viper
Creeping inside my brain
Uninvited and pervading
Vile contaminating poison
Infecting my fragile sanity
Dropping that black canvas
Of all consuming darkness
When I least expect it
Inflating guilt and shame
Grounding smothering
Clipping wings and victimizing
Stealth and insidious

Just Me

Small time girl,
Just me,
With big time dreams to just be happy..

In a city so full of people I feel so alone
In a city so full of streets I've nowhere to go, nowhere to turn,
I've learned that everything comes at a cost
But with so many roads here how can I be lost?

I just need you..
These are my innermost thoughts that I'm writing down,
Echos of cries and pain I've found,
I don't want to be sat here feeling these things,
But sometimes the world has a way of clipping your wings.
