the gleaming of a sailor’s shoes —

it rather should be buffed

God was branded to be non-essential
gamblers and boozers were preferential
the playgrounds were yellow taped

These Stone Eyes Devour
These stone eyes devour
chiselled by the empty rain
buffed by the dust of histories remnants
Touching life with crackled fingertips
The portent unformed smile
that labours at the stone hearts
that drift forever by
Punished wings that mock
at feet unmoved
Pass me with your time
Unfelt this obelisk heart of mine...

The Blade
The blade was fine as any
But it couldn't cut to the core
Or pierce the heart of it
Though he tried forever more

He sharpened it with iron
Cleaned it many times a day
Polished it with minerals
Buffed it a most loving way

It couldn't cut the chase
It didn't even fit the bill
He had to find a way
It almost drove him up the hill...

Premium Member The Nearness of You
I saw you
Smoother than smooth
Exotic
Kissed by strokes of earth tones; and
I can only imagine,
Traversing manhood of mounds
Toned, buffed, offering much joy delight
Noon or night.

So, I asked myself:
Is it the curve of your lips?
The pull of your smile?
The look in your eyes?
Undisguised, as the warmth I feel
Because of you?

Vixen In the Snow
Rudolf got his big red nose
From Vixen in the snow
They had it out one foggy night
Beneath the mistletoe

She bopped him once good and hard
Which caused his nose to grow
She bopped him twice around the yard
His nose began to glow

Then she buffed it bright and red
So everyone would know
Rudolf got his big red nose
From Vixen in the snow...

Would that LIFE were like the magazine
each article proof read
buffed and polished to a fine sheen
edited and re-edited
pictures cropped as needed
photo shopped perfection
at odds with the “camera”.

A full faced “lie” on the cover
reveling in “romantic recall”
basking in the loneliness
of the present.

Listen to poem:
our days numbered
measured in moments
precious time left

cherished by the drop
our gift to each other
for me for you a time for us

gathered gems treasured
in a private whirl of
memories crystallized

the diamond buffed
the end draws near
for you for me a time for us

The Escape Artist
David J Walker

He was
	Well dressed
In a Goodwill sort of way

	Pinstripes down his
Breast

	Cuffed at the end of
Each long leg

	Shoes buffed
Into mirrored shine

Checking his Canal Street Rolex
	For the incorrect time

This is how his
	Day goes

Blowing Orbicular grey smoke
forced through his churlish nose

	Awaiting the arrival of
The next Greyhound bus

	That necessarily must
take him

Anywhere else...

An ice cube chin and sturdy feet,
Until you pierced my atmosphere.
The arrow’s twang made my heart heat.
What have you done?
This hard knock girl now filled with fear. I’m miffed with Cupid’s charming-cheat. These buckled knees — when you said “c’mere.” Your armor buffed — a smooth athlete. Thrust your confident smile - oh dear! Diamonds sparkle on the street —
What have you done?

The ceiling lowers a chandelier’s glow,
A suspended drizzle of glass fireflies.
Marble tiers like a sharp-edged ruffle,
Scaled by lissome feet in buffed leather shod.
As jewels’ shine with sequins’ luster vies,
And pomade’s glints with brilliantine's scuffle,
A beauty to make all womanhood blush,
Ascends the stairs, and with her all eyes rise.
Silk gown’s long train trailing e’er so graceful,
A teardrop’s upflow that brings down a hush;
Young squires turn faithful....

Loud, rowdy, coarse,
a bit rough around the edges,
more likely to say “Shut Up!”
than “Quiet Please.”

Jeans, well worn,
faded by harsh winds,
and searing sun.
face to match.

The “gods?”
diabolical match makers.

Soft spoken, silky smooth,
edges buffed,
hushed a room
on entering.

Tailored,
off the rack,
draped on artistic
magnificence,
smiling……that…
smile.

Big Sur Jade Cabochon

Broken from off underwater cliffs
Slowly pushed by tides and currents
Found by me during a low tide
While searching along Jade Cove
In Los Padres National Forest
Cut into quarter to half-inch slabs
The cut again into an octagon
The octagon grinds down to an oval
A flat surface down to concave
Grounded first with coarse wheels
Then again with finer wheels
Buffed and polished to a high sheen
With powdered sapphires
A new Big Sur Jade Cabochon...
