Wishing To Go Home
I wonder what it feels like
To live another life
One without the sickness
One without the pain
Yet i'm still stuck here
In the cold Alaskan wind
Where Florida awaits me
And maybe the pain will fade...

Premium Member Janae Arrives
Janae arrived in the summer in the back of a conch shell boat.
After the frost had thawed on every single Alaskan float.
Demons and wailing frogfish popped their heads out of the waves.
Wondering whether to greet her or run back to their underground caves....

Premium Member I Have Never
I have never been on a safari.
never been on an Alaskan cruise.
never been bungee jumping
never got shot in a poker game
never been on a lion hunt
never driven a car in the Indy500
never piloted a 747
but I can still die happy
because I never wanted to do any of these things...

Mourning
THE NIGHT HAS FALLEN
UPON ME
DREARY AND SULLEN
DARK AS ALASKAN WINTER
I AM LEFT
DUMBSTRUCK
EMPTY AS THE MIDNIGHT AIR
THE WORLD
HAS LOST ALL MEANING
THERE IS A SUDDEN MADNESS
DEVOURING ME
I CANNOT GATHER THE WORDS
I AM CEASING TO BE
AFTER LOSING YOU
WHAT'S LEFT?

AUGUST 2000...

Premium Member are you afraid of dogs

Big Blue, my Alaskan Malamute greeted my friend with a wide tail wag.
He ran back to the car, rolled down the window and yelled “Is this a gag?”
Are you afraid of dogs? I asked. I did not know that about you.
No, but I am afraid of whatever that thing is, he said, indicating Big Blue....

Premium Member Wrangell Fare
Crackles of snow in midlit-air.
This Wrangell fare!
Aflame, the Alaskan forest of calm and rest.
Salmonberry sparks, deep yellow — knobbly, mellow.
Raspberry red and mute orange — berry-torrent.
Tasting its sweet, perfume of life. Backwoods — no strife.
Cool crunch of footprints at midnight. Late Spring so bright.

Premium Member Chased By a Red Kangaroo
Chased by a two hundred pound kangaroo
I hid inside an Alaskan igloo
I concocted a wild witch’s brew
And put together a tasty stew

Someone yelled, “Here is a blue kangaroo!”
I knew this was not an ample clue.
Had someone fashion me a new hairdo.
Styled by a beauty school shrew.

Someone stuck their head in and yelled “Boo!”
An odd orange creature from the nearest zoo.
He was not painted the right hue.
Not like the scary red kangaroo....

Premium Member Curiosity's Danger
From darkness lights rise as bright hues paint night spectrums, dancing eerily. Alaskan visitors gasp; sights they long to see appear. Unaware they are of impending disaster. Earth’s slightest tremor crushes through icy capsules, casting glaciers on tourists. Aurora remains, though none are left to view it. Victims’ curiosity leads to death by avalanche as nature overpowers.

Premium Member Penguins Mishap Is Honorable
Penguin was embarrassed because he had fallen through the ice.
He had not done it only one time, he had done it thrice.
Anchorage Alaskan penguins cheered and yelled “one more time!”
He became a hero of sorts, so he felt a bit more sublime.

Now on a roll, he decided to try to break the ice.
He jumped on it hard, but it was as solid as blackjack dice.
He tried again, and the other penguins cheered him on.
Not embarrassed now, he began skating on the pond....

Bearly Believable
A woman in Alaska,
With her brother on a hike,
Never dreamed that on a bathroom break
Unpleasantness would strike.

She sat down on the toilet
In an outhouse near a yurt
When she felt like something bit her
And she screamed because it hurt.

Her brother raced inside to see
Perhaps a squirrel there
But a glance into the bowl revealed
None other than a bear!

The wounds were superficial
But be warned before you strut
Into an Alaskan outhouse
Or a bear could bite your butt!...

Salmon Overdose By An Alaskan
SALMON OVERDOSE by an Alaskan

Salmon, salmon every day
Every time and every way

Alaska breakfast
Salmon lunch
Add some nuts
To make a crunch

Thank you fisher man
My friend
For sharing
Salmon without end

What is prized in cities far
Fills my pantry
Jar by jar

White wine adds a little bite
When I whine I feel contrite
But the fragrance of this fish
Makes me want
Another dish
When I yearn
For beans or rice
Please be patient and be nice.

Oh, New Yorkers
Call on me
Trade me fora ton of Brie....
