In this charming retreat,
the silence of nature and hills talk to me,
whispers of forgotten tales in the breeze,
of hidden secrets of times bygone,
an era of luxury and grandeur,
where every stone holds a story untold.
In the marble statues and king-size portraits,
etched in elegance, they gaze through time,
their faces frozen in an eternal grace,
gripping the pulse of a golden age.
Laid in every nook and corner of the mansion,
they speak of grandeur
of feasts and whispers in the halls,
of laughter echoing beneath crystal chandeliers.
The velvet curtains, the blinds drawn in quiet reverence,
softly filter the light, casting shadows of tranquility and peace,
the swimming pool in the front yard
girdled by palm trees standing tall and erect like silent sentry
the mango tree laden with fruits drooping over the pool
a visual treat for hungry eyes sore with city life.
and outside, the hills stand,
ancient and proud, keeping their vigil.
on the idyllic retreat
where wealth and wisdom reign in peace.
and time slows, and memories breathe.

SENTRY
Be ever on duty, it is surely best
Never sleep, or even try to rest
Or risk losing some precious zest
No need to puff out your chest
So proud of the regiment’s crest
Yet by its history, not obsessed
But hope it might not be the test
Whether mere monitor or guest
Only if one is correctly dressed
Wishing visitors to be impressed
But on cold nights, the loneliest
We do simple jobs, I do not jest
Yet definitely not the bloodiest
Our desire to be the friendliest

Sentry is the sunset, as I de and compress
Optimism is a way to scrub the hopelessness
Perhaps I'll escape perdition with a healthy dose of beauty paste
Will insecurities vanities blind me pitifully to the incoming waste
No, this corner would not be built into the path if it weren't meant to be walked down and turned
Growth is not just something plant-based it's a lesson in us all that need be walked and learned

A huge, magnificent sycamore stands
Like a sentry overlooking my yard
As towering proof that nature demands
A posture unknown to human regard
It is my home’s elegant bodyguard.
I fear a tornado’s fierce straight-line wind
Will bring this tree to an undesired end,
Toss it like a toothpick over the fence
Snapping it off because it does not bend
Trimming it back certainly makes good sense.

The well, worn carpet
Underneath our windows
Of our sentry post,
Through which we peer
Into the unknown
For a spectral hand,
Invisible to the human eye,
Our hearts and spirits
As anxious and worn
As the carpet worn smooth
Underneath our feet.
The fear of that hand,
Knowing that its
bony touch goes
Undetected as it strokes
The face of its victims,
Robbing scent from
The nostrils,
Transforming bodies
into over-heated ovens
of those it condemns.
Our homes, a sanctuary,
A respite from the terror,
And, yet, our place
Of solitary confinement.
we peer out
through the bars
Of our windows
For the invisible enemy
As the days evolve
Into weeks and months,
Thwarting this invisible
Enemy, armed only
With a cloth face mask
And hand sanitizer,
We wait for reprieve.

Y!...P!M! : asked the sentry at the door of waking

yup...past midday!
(yawning...pondering...mmmmm)
yammered past
midnight
yacking propels me
yards...plows
mental
yesteryears pathways...mountainous
yes...puzzling
maybe
yet productivity means
yachting problems
minimizing
yawls...pacifying memories
yearning...premeditations
materialized
years previous...managable
yen-pen
moment
yang potential mediums
yielding...perpetual
music...
yelling pesters me

A wee fellow, sporting an outsize bold-orange chest
The male of the species, ever doing his best
To protect his shyer, pale-chested mate
Back and forth struts Mr. Robin 'cross yard and fence
Twitching and turning, movements taut and tense
A most dutiful look-out, if not so in actual name
~ Noble sentry, setting Madame Robin's heart aflame

Sentry sits alone,
Amid fallen heroes graves.
He was their symbol.
Quietly he sits.
It is fitting he keep watch,
For they gave their all.

Lord, watch over me this night
As I guard my soldiers as they sleep.
Overhead, the stars are sharp and bright,
And the sky is clear and dark, and deep.
For I know that they depend on me
As I know that I depend on You.
Keep my heart awake that I might know
Out here among the foe
That You are watching too.
Tonight the breeze is from the east.
There's a hint of jasmine in the air.
Tomorrow is the village feast,
And I know the enemy is there.
Oh God, we're very far from home.
We are shepherds guarding foreign sheep.
There are wolves about!
Don't let them come!
Oh God, don't let me fall asleep!
Help me watch.
Bring us safely home.
The dark is deepest now, the dawn
Is waiting just beyond the hill.
My eyes are heavy, I watch on.
The air is sharp and cold and still.
I see my son's small shining face
And I long to watch him step and grow.
Here I am in this dark place
Watching people I will never know.
Sometimes I wonder why we're here.
It seems it's someone else's fight.
And God,I cannot shake the fear.
But look! it's starting to grow light.
We made it through another night.
We made it.
And I know we'll be all right.

I have seen your wall
So delicate in place
Cool and rich as earth
Beneath my hand I trace
Adorn with shells and feathers
Rings intricate as lace

it's been two hundred years that I have stood here
Casting my silent signal on the sea
Warning those that venture near my coastline
Protecting those that place their trust in me
On this rocky crest I am the master
The crashing surf bowing at my feet
My eye guides the fate of weary sailors
Anxious for their voyage to complete
Weigh your anchor safe within my bosom
In your hold your cargo snugly stow
You have survived the perils of the voyage
I salute you with my lanterns glow
It is I, the sentry of the harbor
Fending off whatever nature hath
Believe in me and I will be your savior
Shielding you from Poseidon's wrath

Just as Jesus watches over you from Heaven, we will watch from here.
You kept us safe and gave your life, a debt we cannot repay.
Go bravely into the afterlife, this you need not fear.
Know that we are so proud of you and for your soul we pray.
God has placed a sentry at your grave, his flight will show the way.
