You are
A conqueror
You proved naysayers wrong
But do not rest on your laurels,
Continue the good work,
Fight the good fight,
You soldier
Life as we know it
Is spiralling out of control
It’s all become so precious
What will be the end goal?
Don’t say this ,don’t say that
Offence will be taken
Please don’t mention gender
As you could be very mistaken
Life’s no longer simple
Now totally confusing
Can’t afford to rest on your laurels
Or be caught snoozing
Next ,it will be ban the banter
No more jokes to be told
So we can all become robots
Totally controlled …..

LADDER OF SUCCESS
Free Verse
1001 steps to reach the apex
You need courage and strength
Along the way there are trials and tests
Be careful, watch every step you make.
Ask the help and guidance of God
Courage and conviction to you He'll provide
Ask Him to hold your hands so tight
Going up is not easy, slippery and too steep
From the first step there are challenges
Overcome it with hope and faith
Never lose your courage and fortitude
Aim high till you reach the pinnacle of success.
Don't rest on your laurels they say
In your journey you're almost half way
Though the road is rough and bumpy
Finish your course with intrepidity and dignity
You are young and beautiful
The future has many good things to offer
Concentrate in your studies
Finish it with flying colors.
You are the pride of your parents
The crown and glory of the church as well
A good example among the chosen
Someday, you’ll stand before men clapping their hands.
Sir Tom aka Marmite Man
It’s obvious you are the people’s choice
“But do not” rest on your laurels
As I too have a voice!!
I’ve noticed when addressing the people
There’s a recurring whinge of …“Deb broke the treaty”
You need to toughen up Marmite Man
Stop behaving like a precious sweetie!
You write such powerful words
Though empty words is all they are
Where were you when I challenged you?
Hiding in your Marmite jar!!
Poetry's a tough business, you know
Each new poem reinvents the wheel
Staring at a blank page takes nerves of steel
'Rest on your laurels?' -- You'll have nothing to show
I've heard that writing poems is an escape
But why flee something easy to do
Like nuclear physics or perfecting Kung Fu
Let the scoffers try to get into 'poetry shape'
As for me, I'm off for a round of pre-poetry drills
~ So my pen is primed to deliver thrills and chills!
Hey! Keep Me in the Loop!
Hey! Dawn's gift is a blessing no man yet has owned
But my friend seems 'eternity' since you last phoned!
Please don't rest on your laurels, although they're quite real
In the world, from God's viewpoint, and love that I feel.
Hey! Though we look like heirlooms (our luck or God's Grace?)
And the routes of our sojourns now map lost young face.
'Life' is art carved by time and each sculpture's unique,
Though our children may feel that aged beauty's more cheek!
Hey! A loop is a circle that can't know its end
And as close to perfection as we get my friend.
Though my poem seems cluttered with words that don't fit,
May you still grok you're loved! That's my truth! Take the hit!
Hey! If minds are like islands found oceaned by fear,
And time's waves carve its beaches, old friend, it is clear
That I'll love you as long as 'dots' still tempt a 'line'
To connect them. So, pick up a phone, Valentine!

B names Birthdays you can't deny,
I spells Insipid to tell how they fly.
R sings Rest on your laurels today,
T says Taste your cake with no delay.
H gives History of birthdays till now,
D Dares to grab all that birthdays allow.
A taunts, "You are Aging too soon,"
Y stands to Yodel a birthday tune.
Birthdays come and birthdays go,
but you seem to stay the same
This time, however, you've reached
one to make you cringe in shame.
50 sounds so much older than 49
Now you'll be hearing all the time;
("May I see your discount card?")
being carded as when you hit 21
only you won't be having any fun.
You'll turn your back, and feign
you didn't hear that hated refrain
But hey, in today's sad economy
we will accept any paltry gain.
"Do you want the Senior menu?"
"With your Senior discount, that comes to . . . "
I've already had 25 years of that, so welcome to the club! You have officially crossed over into the fastest growing segment of the U. S. population, and have attained status as a certified member of The Seniors Club of America!
twenty-two years as the Pastor of that Historic Little Church on the Hill
twenty-two years of leadership as you continue to submit to God's will
you're don't rest on your laurels as you've just attained another Master's Degree
from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University
you recently received a blessing from God that has given you tremendous joy
you are now officially a grandfather and hallelujah it's a boy
you preach to us the living gospel the eternal words of Christ
and you relate it to us in a way that has impacted our lives
we thank you for these twenty-two years of delivering the word of God
we thank you for these twenty-two years that you've kept us in your heart
you've held our hands, you anointed us with oil
and you listened to our troubles
you prayed for us, you prayed with us
and gave us guidance in the midst of our struggles
we love you Pastor Griffinfor your honest and humble approach to life
we love you and the First Family for all that you've sacrificed
twenty-two years and still counting since the day you were appointed
Congradulations and keep making good things happen
for you are truly anointed
