Reevaluate Poems

Layers of Intention

Coming back to recapture and constitute whys,
To understand our train of thought, the path we seek with our eyes,
The external influence that suggests and surrounds,
Take it all away and what have you found,
Lay your heart bare and what do you see,
Under all the layers of your reasoning,
What you grip onto so tightly in order to let go,
Take it all away for a moment and reevaluate your soul,
What pain pushed you and prodded you to run into your ways,
What traumas made you run away from your pain,
Take away your fix it mentality because control is not in your hands,
Lay it down at the alter and give it away again,
Give and love freely without control and confined,
Stop trying to conform yourself to free your own eyes,
Love the freedom to love...love the freedom to give,
Stop putting rules on your freedom to live,

Power To Repent

If you love someone
Keep your words
Your words is you
Keep true to your vow
Your vow is your offering
To someone you promise
If you deviate from your words
Your life is all betrayal
All corruption, all evil
What would be left from you
Are emptiness, hatred and not loved
Unless you repent, reevaluate yourself
To change for good, for the better
God will cleanse us from within
He will give us a new slate
Life is like a new morning
Full of sunshine, warmth and energy
To be given to yourself and to others
When your soul is required of you
You will not regret in judgment
Heaven will be siding with you
Definitely, heaven welcomes you.

Premium Memberwrong

Have you ever been wrong?
I was wrong.
Ugly, smugly wrong.
Psephologically wrong.
Hit the iceberg,
smoking’s good for you,
the treaty of Versailles,
left on red,
Copernicus, Aristotle, Custer,
wrong.
I’m not claiming an excuse,
wrong.
It wasn’t you,
it was me,
wrong.
Just fricking
kiss a frog
wrong.
Wrong all along,
wrong about the world,
reevaluate me wrong,
wrong, wrong, wrong.
I can admit I was wrong.
Can you forgive me,
can I forgive me,
wrong

Premium MemberKNOWING WHICH BLESSING TO COUNT

Thanksgiving is a great time to count our blessings
It’s a time when our hearts should soar…
as we sit back and think about…all the things we are thankful for…

A time to put aside, for a moment at least, our fears, anxieties, and stress
A time to look back on our life…to reevaluate…to reassess.

On this my 70th Thanksgiving…as the years continue to mount…
I find the list of the blessings in my life have gotten easier to count.

I’m healthy and I’m happy…and as thankful as can be…
to be surrounded by the affection of my friends and the love of my family…

And I’m thankful for the dreams I had…the old ones and the new…
for the failed dreams that led to other dreams…which eventually came true.

And I’m thankful how I’ve come to understand
In life….what is truly paramount...
when adding up my blessings...
Is knowing which blessings to count.

Cynic?

Some label me as cynical, they do declare
Claiming I dwell in life's shadows, ignorant, unaware
They brand me a heretic, unconventional, a lost soul
Believing in living, death, then stating, “who knows”?

But I'd contend my perspective is clear
A truth-seeker's path, devoid of any fear
The divergence between us is stark, yet small
You have complete faith, I crave evidence, that's all

I don't indulge in conjecture, we could argue is the sky green or blue?
I aim to refine, to unveil what we know to be True
When opinions clash, beliefs come undone
I reevaluate, is my stance still won?

Don't feel obliged to adopt my point of view
Though science guides me, it's your choice too
I plead for open minds, devoid of attack
Let's converse, let reason be our track

To those who deem me cynical, inquire of me
Ask for my reasoning, my clarity to see
And if heretic's your label, I'd remind you this day
Even Jesus was radical, in much the same way

So, am I a cynic? That's subjective, it's true
Perception defines it, in light of our view
So, if you ask my beliefs, and how I make it through life
I’d say watch closely, I just try to do what's right

They Came

They were so alien to us
and we so alien to them
that we could make nothing of each other.

They exterminated all we humans and our cats.
Leaving but a few specimens around
for further study perhaps, then most left
with much of our earth minerals.

It appears they considered
cats the more intelligent species,
and we humans but a vanishing race
of useless beings.

Since the invasion we have had to reevaluate
our evolutionary significance,
and the inexplicable importance
of cats to all life-forms.

We have learned to be docile and compliant,
never thinking of escaping -
where would we go?

Our continued existence here
now depends
on our tolerance for canned cat food.

Premium Member6 Feet Away

One thing this pandemic has been doing from the very start
is forcing us to look at life a little differently…as we stand 6 feet apart.

It’s allowing us to reevaluate as we adjust our day to day…
It’s reminding us what’s important…as we stand 6 feet away.

Yes, hand sanitizer and paper towels make our lives easier
when we can find them in the store
but our friends
our family
our children
our grandchildren….
are the very things we’re living for.

When we can’t be together as often…
when we don’t see each other as much.
We learn the importance of that closeness…
of a kiss…a hug…a touch.

We find other was to express our love
when we can’t visit every day
We learn to cherish a phone call…
a letter….
a smile or a wave…
as we stand 6 feet away.

And when we see people in need
whose lives have also been redefined….
we learn the importance of helping others
the importance of being kind.

When this pandemic comes to an end…
and we all celebrate that day…
I hope we’ll remember the lessons we learned
that time we stood 6 feet away.

Quarantine

Quarantine and cancellation of
Gatherings are gaining strength..
Occasions in which we face
Each to the other..sprout fears of
A rising darkness..
Of the Unknown..

Is this a summons from our inner
Being..to reevaluate our frenzied
Comings and goings..and discover
In enforced isolation that
Our pursuits have drawn a curtain
Over a truer image of who we are..?

Is this a time of self-questioning
To be willing to fall into the Unknown
Fueled by our fears..and recognize
What has always been
Our true Safety and Joy...?

R - Requisite

Restless restoration
Return
Remove all the rubble remaining from the rampant rift you released and retracted
Remember?
I recognized and revealed your ravishing rituals and repugnant relations
Rippling into your relentless rampage
A recycled retaliation, resonating with regret and self-revolt
A response reused rather than repenting the wrong
Ravaging our rare relics of reverie without remorse in your ruthless rage
You have rendered a realm of ruin; relinquished of reason and rightful retribution
Reliving the reoccurring rumbles of this relationship as I rummage through the wreckage and reassemble the rivets and fallen rafters
You have run out of radius, only to reappear in my retrograding reflections
Recollecting till I rupture and regress
Reminiscing, recalling the rapture and revelry repeatedly
The rain that remains is relevantly rational
A requiem to rot for the rest of this reality?
Reevaluate righteous relief
Rust over, rise up or seek revenge

A Sad Christmas

It’s Christmas morn at the crack of dawn
Deep snow is all around
We celebrate with peace and joy
The coming of that baby boy
So long ago to save the world
So sad that it has come unfurled

With so much evil all around
No lessons have been learnt
If only we could stop awhile
To contemplate the Christmas story
Of peace and love and joy and glory
Our beliefs are now so transitory

Take time away from all furore
Reevaluate the Christmas story
So sad that we have lost our way
But never too late or so they say
So make a difference whilst on this Earth
On Christmas day celebrate his birth
And fill your heart with love and joy
Rejoice in the birth of that baby boy

The moment I start wondering what just happened
Is when I reevaluate things, check out my captions
If they read like a dirge
Could be on the verge
Of a career up yonder with those famous bananas

Premium MemberFog of Neglect

resisting change
has not
done me
any favors
losing track
how times evolve

perpetually convinced
that my priorities
line up
yet neglecting
to reevaluate

my brain kept in a fog
I’m quite delusional
reluctant to question
my ways of being askew
