They Came

They were so alien to us and we so alien to them that we could make nothing of each other. They exterminated all we humans and our cats. Leaving but a few specimens around for further study perhaps, then most left with much of our earth minerals. It appears they considered cats the more intelligent species, and we humans but a vanishing race of useless beings. Since the invasion we have had to reevaluate our evolutionary significance, and the inexplicable importance of cats to all life-forms. We have learned to be docile and compliant, never thinking of escaping - where would we go? Our continued existence here now depends on our tolerance for canned cat food.
