God made Billy Joel
gave him clothes
to dress my soul
I wear those clothes
listening to music
My style my face
my picture of grace
From young to old
the picture is told
Decades were made
that did not fade
Music that I will
always remember
My soul music
my September
The words of music
always displayed
the feeling of life
'The Piano Man's life'
'She's always a Woman'
'Just the Way You Are'
Take me to 'Allentown'
and 'Zanzibar'
'To Scenes from A Italian
Restaurant'
'It's a Matter of Trust'
'A New York State of Mind'
We're always under "Pressure'
For 'The Longest Time'
'Only the Good Die Young'
for you that was a lie
You sailed 'The River of Dreams'
While singing a 'Lullabye'
This is the time to look in
'Rosalinda's Eye's'
Standing on a "Stiletto'
don't ask me why
So why should I worry
'You're my Home'
My 'Uptown girl'
it is shown
'She's got a Way'
'To Turn the Lights Back On'
When you Wish apon a Star'
'My Life' is half way home
'We Didn't Start the Fire'
We just kept it going on
with a song and a lyre
being our only strong

“Lost, special treasures truly break our hearts-
more so, those honed by our creative arts .”
_by Poet
So sad the poems of my youth are gone-
the ones I wrote so many years ago.
I married young, and to my love was drawn
to move down South- some items left to stow.
A box filled up with thoughts that sang like songs-
stored carefully, all safe on the third floor;
no sign on it to say where it belongs-
was whisked away as trash forevermore.
Our home, declared as theirs by New York State;
a river's bridge was in their plans to build.
My parents had to vacate by their date;
attending to some boxes– unfulfilled.
My poems honored family and love-
I know that God remembers from above.

Something is missing from our winter days
which seem irregular from former years.
This is mysterious in many ways-
although convenient, winter has changed gears!
Here in our Hudson Valley, New York State,
scant dustings of light snow we've seen to date!
No ice on ponds where country folk could skate!
The temps each day are warmer than before-
buds waking up! Such fair clime can't ignore!
A milder winter- should we ask for more?
But wait! Our March is gearing up her phase!
Will she make up for what's kept in arrears?
Should we stand by for blizzards at her gate?
Let's see what fickle March will have in store!

New York state is paying 20 cents for gloves that normally cost less than five cents, $7.50 for masks that normally go for 50 cents, $2,795 for infusion pumps that normally cost half that, $248,841 for a portable X-ray machine that typically sells for $30,000 to $80,000.
Who's pocketing all this? An array of producers, importers, wholesalers and speculators. State laws against price gouging usually don't apply to government purchases.
Some of it may be finding its way into this fall's election campaigns. The veteran Republican fundraiser Mike Gula and Republican political operative John Thomas just started a company selling coronavirus testing kits, personal protective equipment and other "hard to find medical supplies to beat the outbreak". They call themselves "the largest global network of Covid-19 medical suppliers".
Asked how he'd found such equipment, Gula explained: "I have relationships with a lot of people."
Thomas added: "In politics - especially if you're at a high enough level - you are one phone call away from anybody in the world."

New York State voters just voted down
Same-day Voter Registration
leaving New York less progressive than
nineteen other states in our fair nation *
Universal Vote-by-Mail was also nixed
putting New York in a real pickle of a fix
Alas, now her ballot-box rules are not as up-to-date
as woke states like California, numbering eight **
Of course, no one dares say a peep about
the performance of P.C. Governor Kathy Hochul ***
She seems not to have taken the pulse
of her state's deplorable local yokels

It's a pretty little town in northern New York State.
To visitors of the region, everything looks great.
There was one obscure fact of which I was not aware:
A big War of 1812 battle was fought there.
A large British and Canadian force started a campaign
to seize control of upper New York and Lake Champlain.
British ships under the command of Captain George Downie
fought American ships and armed forces unsuccessfully.
The British captain became an unfortunate casualty.
Not long after, all hostilities would cease.
The Treaty of Ghent ended the war and brought peace.
I thank wikipedia.org for valuable information I obtained to write this poem.

New York State- I must claim is the best-
since my birth- still my home- passed the test.
Country life- pure and free
Hudson Valley grants me-
and one hour from that Big Apple zest!

Pensive
I am a writer and artist with aptitude in business and computer skills.
I am a wife, mother of three, grandma of five, and sister to a brother.
I love opera, visiting museums, and sightseeing old, historical places.
I feel apprehension, distress, grave concern for our future generations.
I fear wars, weather disasters, or our satellites becoming dysfunctional.
I would like to see peace on earth, and a return to values and respect.
I am a resident living in the Hudson Valley, in Eastern New York State.

Which One?
Wintertime births twins,
each quite distinctive.
One kindly, one not;
the one delivered,
to us, a surprise.
One lays pure snow,
lightweight, fluffy;
sparkling in sun,
gifting our fun.
One swirls gray
blizzard blasts.
Huge trouble.
Who knows
which will
come.

BEEF ON WECK
Caraway seeds and salted -
Beef on Kümmelweck.
Spread a bite of horseradish
And serve with french fries -
Salty and crispy.
Serve up beer.
Cheers!

A beef on weck is a sandwich found primarily in Western New York State, particularly in the city of Buffalo. It is made with roast beef on a kummelweck roll. The meat on the sandwich is traditionally served rare, thin cut, with the top bun getting a dip au jus and spread with horseradish. Reference - Wikipedia

There Is A View
There is a view that haunts me so
and breaks my heart each time I pass.
Although it happened long ago,
strong memories of past amass.
This sacred place
I can't erase.
My childhood home stood there, I know;
our 'castle' on a hill of grass.
For a new bridge, torn down with woe,
our home we lost; State won, alas.
With grief, I sigh
when I ride by.

Note: The Newburgh-Beacon Bridge was completed and opened in
November 1963, after New York State, claimed our home via
eminent domain. Since I live close by, I constantly have to pass
the site where my childhood home stood.

I turned around...should not have looked;
they all were there and set to go.
The time was set, the day was booked;
today would be the final show.
A tear came flowing down my cheek...
I turned around...should not have looked.
My heart was pounding, legs were weak,
and yet somehow, my mind was hooked.
That arm with claws was soon unhooked
to swivel, reach up high and crash.
I turned around...should not have looked
to watch it make that painful gash.
With digs and pulls...they tore it down.
My childhood home they came and took
to build a bridge from town to town.
I turned around...should not have looked.

September eleven, two-thousand-one-
dark age of homeland terror had begun.
If only I could change this horrid past-
alleviate deep pain from grief at last.
Three thousand souls were lost forever, then;
three hundred forty-three were brave firemen,
so many whom I'd come to know before,
when they'd stop by our fire equipment store.
Our county is just sixty miles away
from New York City, south of us, and they
would often live more north in New York State,
commute each shift- but many met their fate.
One family resided on our street...
that morning, he left home for Death to meet.
So many others we will never see
who purchased goods from us so faithfully.
For those who died, their bodies not yet found,
we gifted presentation helmets bound
to loved ones for those funerals then held-
such somber and sad days, unparalleled.
If I could change this past and turn back time,
erase that day of tragedy and crime,
my heart, with all the others, would rejoice
that these poor souls could live a life of choice.
