March

The footfall of March comes whistling by,
Wrapped in the hope that winter will die;
But the winds of winter still coldly blow,
Bringing the harvest of leftover snow.

The birds from south wing their way home,
From faraway places where feathered wings roam;
Pregnant with the breathless feelings that bring,
Promises of hope in the womb of Spring.

The bright days of Eden are almost here,
Blossoms that are sleeping will soon appear;
But only the snowdrop lifts her brave little head,
From a cold dank earth and lonely bed.

But the skies of grey are turning blue,
And the days grow longer and storms are few;
Earth has joys to bring in her arms,
As the birth of Spring brings in all of her charms.

The winter wood are stark and empty
Open for all to see_deep
Deep into the soul
Undergrowth devoid of green_no blossoms seen
Wonderful time to explore for can't be taken by surprise

There is something about the winter woods that appeals_
Appeals to the human eye
It calls come tramp deep_discover about life

There are squirrel nests hidden high(in summer)
Along with misteltoe_now seen

One can see the squirrels play intelligent they are
Not eating the misteloe

Oh! how the winter woods stark and naked stand
Wanting to tell all that they understand

Come winter says come sit upon a rock, stump or knoll
Wait, watch, listen, learn,
As you go along in life, winter woods draws
Draws from its soul to mature the very being of the young

Oh Dreary Winter

Oh dreary winter
You have over stayed
Your grey skies
Are not welcome
I know spring is close
I look at the grey lake
With the duck on it
The only splash of colour
In the late winter landscape
But I see the hints of spring
Everywhere around me
And the promise of daffodils
Lilacs and butterflies
So winter its time to go
Your welcome is worn out

Premium Member First Hike of the Year

The snow has gone, melted away,
The air is fresh and sweet.
Bundle up, it's still a cold day
And off, our friends to meet.

Shaking off the winter blues,
It's time for a nature hike.
To visit and catch up with the news
Shared with friends we like.

We're out of shape and we start out slow.
It's supposed to be fun, after all.
So follow the creek, a trail we know,
That leads us up to the Falls.

Cameras are out and clicking away
As the water cascades down.
This time of year it's a powerful spray
With such a roaring sound.

In winter the water rushes on
So powerful, we're filled with delight.
By summer the same creek is almost gone.
Not nearly as an inspiring sight.

So the first walk of the new year
We'll start out nice and slow
But to each other we'll make it clear
The next one will be a 'real hike' you know.

Winter Slumber

Winter be but two weeks old and already they lament.
No passion seems as strong as their loudest prayer for spring.
Spring will come when it will and wake the grasses and willow.
Let Natures brief time of slumber last long enough to rest her.

The winter be time for beauty to be found on ice etched panes,
And bayonets of glass, hanging from every eave to be seen.
Winter be found in crystalline air so pure only heroes inhale it.
And footsteps crunch like breaking luttuce upon the snowy ground.

Beyond winter times will speed and rush their way forward.
Spring then Summer and Autumn sprinting to their ultimate ends.
Let winter luff her way on tiny frozen feet while fire warms yours.
Add another log and settle in for a long nap and a dream.

Winter

Winter
Old man winter back again
Dinged fenders, frozen pipes
Frozen toes, stolen breaths
Old man winter laughs again
Wet floors, mismatched gloves
Soaking boots, frozen doors
Old man winter strikes again

Winter Storm Haikus

brace for five inches
               frozen forecast repeats “snow”
               winter storm coming

               “12 to 24”
               Weather Channel jumps for joy
               winter storm warning!

               the blizzard arrives
               eighteen hours of snowfall
               twenty-one inches

               morning reveals drifts
               waiting for my shovel's edge
               to wreck their beauty

               sore, aching muscles
               attest to snow-free walkways
               shovel stored; wine is poured

               breathing is painful
               windchill at 30 below
               following the storm

               brilliant sunshine
               crystal drifts of sparkling snow
               adorn my city

The Sounds of Winter

Trees, where leaves are falling,
Houses clouded on a gloomy day,

Each day windy and cool,
Sounds of the wind drifting through the trees.

Outside the vacant tree, a profile left by God,
Unusual days where the warm comfort of home beckons.

Now you know winter is making a guest appearance,
Divine nature chamouflaged.

Scenes of another season,
Over the days of autumn.

First days of winter guest soon,
Winter another beautiful season.

Ice and snow melted by the sun,
New fresh air crisp and welcoming.

Time zones of another realm,
Excellent days for humanity to enjoy.

Real sports acquired,
Selected from God's kingdom.

White Cotton

Snow as gentle as cotton growing in a field

New and freshly fallen snow

Optically exquisite and clean

Wise as the snowy owl

Flakes of white, six points to a snowflake

Loved and liked by humanity, on a scenic winter day

A sunny day melts the snowflakes

Kind views like a winter postcard

Every pedestrian careful on the walkways

Scenic and serene, God's friendship personified

Premium Member Hope of Renewal

As the last rose petal falls swiftly down
The last of the great roses of summer
What a great summer that was lived_you known
Rose had much character an affirmer

Fall approaches with sure desolation
Only bare branches with prickly thorns left
Mocking Bird nest with nesting cessation
Protected by the Rose as in a cleft

Used up_bare waiting for winter's cold breath
Not knowing what this winter chill will bring
As the petals flood onto the ground_death
Hope awaits but winter comes with its sting

Will the sap rise again coursing through vine
Revitalization __ one bud sure sign

This Time of Year

As I gaze across at the trees in my yard
I wonder if winter will be hard
The trees are starting to shed their leaves
I'm thinking what's winter got up her sleeves?

The landscape holds wonder now it's true
Shades of crimson and amber too
But soon a blanket of white will be laid
And all this beauty will too soon fade

Winter can be quite lovely too
When the snowing sky is silver-blue
Then Christmas with the blinking lights
Beautifying cold dark nights

Yet Autumn is my favorite time
The countryside's so rich and sublime
The smell of cider, the crisp cool air
And glorious colors everywhere

I love this time of year so much
With all the holidays and such
So bring it on-this seasonal treasure
And we'll have several months of pleasure!

The Years Last Chapter

In autumn when the leaves are gold,
And summers sun is growing cold.
The shadow of winter kisses the land,
As frost is littered on the ground.

The wind is viscous with its bite,
As the stars above shiver in the night.
The new day dawns ominous and grey,
We know that winter is on it’s way.

Empty branches on barren trees,
Leaves all gone with autumn’s breeze.
Yellow tinged clouds threaten down below,
As the skies are bursting full of snow.

Lace like flakes fall to the ground,
Silently they make no sound.
A pure white blanket fills the land,
Gripped by winter’s mighty hand.

Fall's Allegiance

Autumn leaves dance in the wind
As its breath awakens the trees
The limbs tremble in defiance
As they try to resist the breeze

The trees shiver in the cool morning air
As the dew gives way to the frost
They know their armor will soon be gone
For all of their leaves will be lost

Winter stands ready to enter the stage
And for Autumn to relinquish its hold
It's time for Winter to abandon its slumber
And Autumn must welcome the cold

Winter demands Fall's allegiance
Like a General shouting commands
Autumn must follow its orders
For the time of change is at hand

Winter's cold winds show restraint
As Autumn surrenders in shame
The trees bow down in silence
With Winter's persistence to blame

Winter takes it's rightful place
Til Spring revenges Fall's death
But Winter will battle until the end
Til it breathes its final breath
