The Unglad
Increasingly
You, me, us
Are part of the great
Unglad
People without much hope
Given the great
Inexorable
Tide of Unhumans
That from Marx on down
To today
Has morphed like a metastasizing
Cancer
Until all that’s left
Of the uncorrupted
Is the Unglad
Sick and tired,
In need of safe harbor
And solace
Before the gathering storm.

Earth Eulogy
By Mark D. Stucky
She was a good planet,
put to death in her prime
by a pandemic of people.
Homo-sapiens was a disease
with mutating and metastasizing
technological and industrial pus,
emitting environmental toxins,
exterminating flora and fauna,
until the infection’s surge
triggered its own extinction.
Vaccines of ecological education
and environmental regulations
could not overpower
the pathogen’s resistance.
When the global viral load
caused ever-rising fever,
Earth suffered convulsions
and, finally, Gaian coma.
Other sentient souls
amidst the starry galactic mist
will surely miss you very much.
Rest in peace, dear Earth.

Cancer is an ugly disease…not only for the life it takes
But for all the sorrow and sadness…left floating in its wake….
Although I did not know her personally I’ve kept abreast of cases she has tried
which is why I was saddened yesterday when I heard that she had died.
But what finally caused my tears to flow…what opened my floodgate
was, amidst the many tributes to her, were the messages of hate.
The more I read the sadder I felt until soon I was feeling numb
as my heart filled up with sorrow at the country we’ve become.
Cancer comes in many forms causing families sadness, sorrow and strife
progressing slowly through the body until it finally takes a life.
Hate is a form of cancer…I wish people would understand
How it’s metastasizing quickly…as it spreads across the land.
Two forms of cancer make me sad today…
The first that took this woman I am thinking of…
and the second that is slowly killing
this country that I love.

A growing
conflagration;
desire,
a forest fire
metastasizing
like cancer.
You are
like honey
drizzled
on my tongue.
I drink you
in gulps; my crying
hunger for you consumes...
me.
I crave you that much!

Angels danced and played the harp, singing "Oh, Happy Day" when Lucifer was cast out of heaven. A cancer metastasizing there; a rotten apple threatening to spoil the rest. Unwelcome and deceitful; a toxic threat to the souls of the faithful entering the pearly gates. God angrily banished the malefic beast for eternity. Angels laughed at Lucifer knocking on heaven's door. They danced and rejoiced.

the verdict rings loud
our innocence snuffed
leaving us breathless
on the edge of our seat
in silence ravaging your body
hypocrite it gnaws inside
where evil lurks ~ the enemy
its claws into you into us
metastasizing cancerous tentacles
threatening viciously
our harmony

The Rough Slouching Beast
has been born
in Washington.
Upon its birthing
what bastard sunrise
were we promised
to relinquish our souls?
What white dawn
in darkness
was actually
immune cells
rallying
to fight
a growing cancer?
Now that it has begun
metastasizing
upon our national flesh,
tell me,
O toothless sages
of our faith,
what is your plan
to restore
our birthright
of azure, blush mornings
while we can still live
to see them?

In Hades, flows the chthonic Styx, a river
of woe and pain (a channel thoroughfare;
where Charon ferries the dead, who despair)
which unnerves our damned souls till we quiver.
The Styx! It's like cirrhosis which kills the liver,
metastasizing there; but does not care;
and tortures us beyond what we can bear!
Because we are thrice-damned, we now shiver
with the peals of the Stygian death-knell;
while Heaven appears like a hope long dead
(as if we’re ten-thousand feet deep in hell!),
here, where the redeemed dare not walk or tread,
we are but ghosts, like shades without a shell:
yet, hell can we brave; but, the Styx we dread.

There is Nothing to Say About It
There is nothing to say about it
No words to describe it at all
There are no words at all to describe
the mass slaughter of innocents,
the relentless malignant progressions of
the evil black-moving cloud of terminations,
the toxic metastasizing ooze of outright annihilations,
the blood-gurgling regurgitations, and
the blood-spurting decapitations.
There is nothing to say about it.
Nothing to say at all.
No words to describe
the hopeless piercing cries of the infidels
the whimpering terrified pleadings of the condemned
the silent gasping inhalations of the dying
There is nothing to say about it.
No words to describe it at all!
My heart at 62 years has not seen anything like this at all!
Never anything like this at all!
I have not seen this outrageous slaughter before at all!
There is nothing to say, except…
These are the days!
The days of this unkind hour;
the days before the great onslaught!
Before this massive earthly descent to the lowest places,
the smelly dank places,
the rotting miasma of the dead places.
There are no words to describe it!
There is nothing to say at all!

Those migratory storks,
will not come
this year.
The lake was burning.
The secret kill
of the wringer
was metastasizing.
Make the tether-
small for the macabre
end. I am not yet
frozen. The stalker
will not leave the
flame. Outside a tribute
was ready for
an uprooted tree.
My shadow moves ahead
to catch a cage bird,
in the parrot green sky.

Malignant Avarice
by Odin Roark
How pernicious
This featureless monster
Lurking in shadows of cravings
Knowing well its metastasizing power
The child in man squints
Observing the ghost like presence
Segueing centuries past
Where both kings and peasants
Priests and flocks
Bankers and customers
Toyed with the infectious apparition
Ignorant of its ravenous nature
Time continues its partner
Tiptoeing surreptitiously
From party ice cream
Through adolescent hormonal voracity
Into awakened narcissism
Clever its disguise
Masquerading upwards through corporate
Domestic
Spiritual safe havens
Where waning immunities
Await ready infection
Long ago
The child giggled
Birthday cake and gifts
So innocent
Gluttony and greed remained
Unknown enemies
Until...

Darkness blights chilling
streams ignite
stark shadows silhouetted
against my window
shading the night; distilling the
availing light
shrouding my inner sanctum;
sheltering my fright
creeping and crawling with an
eery spite
ghastly outlines swaying and
swerving
wavering, quivering each fold
dances
grainy emanations of wispy
ghouls, stunted sprites
flash across bartered pane
eclipsing the night
serenating my nerves; stalking
my spirit
in rythmic cadence they appear
then alight
metastasizing, then returning,
my collected wits to spite
stealthily disappearing at
dawn's first glint
sleeping 'till twilight then
haunting vigil renews

Chilling tides turn the leaves of my soul
For Summer's balmy days I pine and troll
Residual reams of light o'er slighted heart scroll
Scourging winds erode my wavering, intellectual pole
Truant feelings flood my sensory console
Alternating, rancid dreams my psyche patrol
Molting mind is making my wit drab, droll
Burrowing through lengthening nights; entrenched mole
Color blind, as metastasizing changes o'er my body roll
Twining memories strand my spirit on life's, rocky shoal

A frolic in the park
A moonlit dinner after dark
A prediction on the mark
A quick trip on a lark
Spring, bird's new anthem bleating
Summer's eve sunset sparking
Autumn's metastasizing leaves glistening
Winter's first, new snowfall accumulating
Firstborn's, new cry beckoning
First day of school unfolding
First kiss my lips bathing
First wedding, bride beaming
Sports car with chrome sparkling
Job with tasks that are fulfilling
Holiday celebrations that are revitalizing
Gourmet meal taste buds titillating
