We might as well stamp license plates
Government work makes us inmates
When assigned tasks inane
In asylums insane
We'll search for retirement dates

The bars of the jail
those electronics we serve
our cellphones and laptops
new wardens in stir
Ipods and Ipads
to Tweet and I.M.
the virtual distance
created within
24/7
we Text back and forth
when Email’s too slow
a much faster course
But nature is watching
and planning a storm
the power grid wanton
with darkness for sure
And who is to blame
as we cry and we scream
our minds have been sentenced
we no longer dream
The reckoning promised
has come home at last
and this time not virtual
—our prison recast

The snowman charged with trespassing
as his face was melting and his carrot
was floating, like driftwood in threshold
crossing. Santa and his reindeer
pull out the naughty list. Frosty is
not the one who’s in trouble. “Sorry
Frosty,” says Santa, “you must melt
a little bit longer as your neighbor
gets madder and madder - turns
Christmas Red, like Rudolph’s sporty nose,
so I can gage how much coal
I need to have the naughty department sack.
I’ll be back my friend
to put you
back
together
again…
on Dancer…on Vixen”****

Evil Queen
Her face, a jealous green
The mirror on the wall
Black heart could not forestall
Snow White
Her beauty did ignite
Ruby lips and raven hair
Seven dwarves were quite aware

COVID-19 LOCKDOWN OR MELTDOWN (pick one)
You want a meltdown
and barnish the lockdown?
Sport activities resumption?
Not yet a conclusion.
Dead businesses emergence?
Church & Mosque convergence?
Return normalcy long gone?
Okay! DEATH has to go on
for LIFE to go on
if we all must move on.

Purple wig on purple clown
Laughing while he's counting down
Princess in her gala gown
Through the streets of Chinatown
On her worried face a frown
She's looking for her misplaced crown
While the clown can't do much about her meltdown
He'll at least help to get her home by sundown

long after a full moon
had thrown its arms around the sky
I stood with Al Stone
ignoring the futility in our lives
adolescence gave way to manhood
or so we like to believe
our ideology stifled
from a serious lack of dreams
with the care of a midwife
removing a child from the womb
a marijuana cigarette was born
then quickly consumed
our reality now disfigured
discolored and frayed
the sound of a revolver pop-pop-pop
felt like a siren calling our names
along the asphalt we strode
where graffiti had not taken over
the corner of lesson and life
pondering the tips of our noses
underneath that streetlight
the story we all must tell
misplaced direction
led to a portal of hell
our lack of caution
our upbringing tossed aside
opened the door for the siren
that revolver in our eyes
angels decided to sing
that melody an alarming sound
wheels of society turned and screeched
leaving tire tracks on the ground
the order was given to freeze
alternatives held tight in their hands
one placed directly at my temple
a transition from boy to man

the sun melts slowly
a silence falls on the land
an eagle circles
my heart pauses in wonder
seems all so larger than life

do you want some fun
in a parked out car
or a video chat one on one
maybe a song
maybe several
maybe a kiss
life should be gentle
but its often not
it often gets hot
and your shoes start to melt
into the tarmac
when that happens
don't tread on your tippy-toes
just call my number
and ill carry you home

All income is lower than any bill
poverty swells, about to exhibit
to all options the mind would have to drill
fat growing needs already prohibit
the spouse and the children all will survive
whips from the family from unknown foe
yet stay intact and thankfully alive
but reduced in value to share a dough
a onetime agent of life so so kind
wealth and health in this mansion they wed
with needs and wants facing a quick grind
and a great lifestyle in a gown so red
a mass travel from all to create this mourn
what waits of these to pat the back is none.

What have I done? I’m breaking.
This pressure splits me at the seams.
I’m burning alive in my covers.
My mind—it sputters and steams.
I’m trying so hard not to tell you,
I’m trying so hard to control,
this amorous beast inside my chest,
but my efforts have taken their toll.
My heart denies alternatives,
it seeks one prey alone.
I tried to protect you; restrain it,
but I’ve weakened while it has grown.
Leave me! Escape! Unless you dare—
to play fire-games with a waking bear.

MELTDOWN
you triggered a
meltdown
in a public place
what a disgrace
I came undone
while you had fun
so I went away
to that space
that I hate
where nothing
matters and
everyone speaks
“numb”

The particles move
SO FAST
how can I reason or explain the process,
I cannot fathom this physics,
though I generate the power.
Natural. Dark.
Something splits, fission.
My nuclear dreams, waste thoughts.
I am what I am.
A confusion of matter,
a crippled, holistic
atomic plan
