You remind me of a synchronized play of violins
Soothing to the vibrations they play
Your touch is the rhythm of a string
hold me gently with similarity

"Faith and Fireworks: Cinco’s Call to Remember"
(A Linking Pin Sonnet in Spence Format – Celebratory & Historical)
Remember the cry, the cause, the stand,
Stand for the faith that defended the land.
Land once trembling rose firm and proud,
Proud were the voices chanting aloud.
Aloud rang truth through valley and hill,
Hill of defiance, God’s sovereign will.
Will of the people, backed by the skies,
Skies filled with prayer and warrior cries.
Cries of justice, both fierce and bold,
Bold like prophets, with courage untold.
Untold stories in fireworks fly,
Fly like doves as praises lift high.
High in the heart, faith’s embers still glow,
Glow bright each year on Cinco de Mayo.

Let all bye gone
Be bye gone
The preacher man
Keeps teaching
Let them correct you
When you're wrong
Be guided, so you don't go astray.
Wake up he says
From the darkness
Come into the light
He keeps teaching
In the light no deceit
You see and know
Everything behind, beside and ahead of you.
The people always
Endure and enjoy his teaches
Wisdom he always teach
His words are so edifying and wise
He's always ready for questions
Truth what he always teaches
He's steadily liberating the people from their sorrows.

Right now, I sit here, alive, because of you.
I met the most important people in my life, because of you.
I got with her because of you.
I learnt who I was, because of you
I found my joy in you
Then… because of you
I learnt fear
I learnt hate
I learnt pain
Ignorance…
I became ignorant because of you
I became aggressive because of you
I became-
I fixed it, without you.
I changed, without you
But I'm stuck to you, because of you, and you're stuck to me.
Right now, I sit here, alive…

Tires rang against the road in my eyes
The grinding of whetted knives
Tinnitus rings in my teeth
Threats are thought, silently
Back sores scream and swamp
Ass creeps through the carseat
In the beauty of County Mayo
I am it's tourist blemish
This trip was a supposed celebration
A turning of a page, a grasping of roots
Some sort of self discovery but I
Have always known myself
It rained at the peak of Eask Tower
The hag I feared had lived there
Stayed slumbering, or may be waiting
To follow me back to America, plotting
Stepping past the scattered sheep
Stumbling down muddied emerald hills
I was baptized in the petrichor
Wandering my way back to Dingle
Confronting my disharmony led
To a roundabout road to Bray
Climbing the crucifix hill to escape dread
As every life lived is just a single day

Me and my friends down from Ohio
Just paying them back for what I owe
A little salt and lime
Plus three shots at a time
Another drunk Cinco de Mayo

In 1862, Mexicans were elated
As the French army was decimated
Today is Cinco de Mayo
Tacos—free Pico de gallo!
The Battle of Puebla is celebrated
Emperor Maximillian was fooled
by the Mexicans he thought he ruled
Carlota the Queen, insane
Died in France from her pain
After a firing squad had ensued

Make sure a Corona to clench
And forgo the Merlot
On Cinco de Mayo
But buy beer which can a thirst quench

American sonnet
Today is sunny with a few decorative clouds drifting idly about the sky and the mood is of optimism
When it is overcast and dull my feet scrape the pavement An old man bent to the ground regretting past
When my mother died there was a forest of umbrellas around the hole in damp soil, the rain dripped on her coffin and a golden cross she wouldn't have liked seeing
the symbol of oppression.
The priest, a verger held his umbrella, said a few words
routine words, void of any meaning.
My near family are dead and my own demise is there
like a boulder made of years of spent years, but never mind, it doesn't matter on a sunny day.

Almost died myself the 1st of May, 2 years ago,
Seizing as I had another death of my ego.
Flashing forwards to first 4 days of May just a year ago,
I lost a cousin all because of sins of "the ego."
Suddenly remembering my grandfather who passed 2 years ago,
I recall how he was born post-war on Cinco De Mayo.

Nail biting, a habit so strong
It's hard to break, it lingers on
It's a nervous habit, it's true
It's hard to stop, what can I do?
My nails are short, my fingers bare
I bite them down, I just don't care
I know it's bad, I know it's wrong
But I can't stop, it's been so long
I try to stop, I try to quit
But I can't help it, I just can't quit
It's a habit that's hard to break
It's a habit that I can't shake
It's a habit that I can't control
It's a habit that takes its toll
It's a habit that I must fight
It's a habit that gives me fright
But I will try, I will not give in
I will fight this habit and win
I will break this habit at last
And I will never bite my nails again.

A much-neglected condiment is mayonnaise
for its smooth, creamy flavor, I give it 'all A's'
It perks up a sandwich more than ketchup and mustard
and even on desserts, it can outduel custard

Way down yonder,
Where the cactus grow.
The wind blows hot,
The day moves slow.
It's siesta time,
In the afternoon.
Then people shine,
Under crescent moon.
The music plays,
Beneath the stars.
The joyful dance,
To twin guitars.
A tequila shot,
A wedge of lime,
A pinch of salt,
It's fiesta time.
The men make sure,
To tip their hat.
The young would stand,
While the elders sat.
The smiles are plenty,
The tears are few.
The food is spicy,
And the women too.
As night time ends,
And all had fun.
The weary mass,
Would greet the sun.
With heart's content,
And feeling blessed.
They'd journey home,
Once more to rest.

The whole world knows that
Adding vinegar to chips and fish
Turns the whole offering into
An almost Earth shattering dish,
But how many people know,
How many people realise
The amazing effect to be had
By adding Mayo to your fries.
Almost a Damascus Road event
The first time that you try it
Just take the humble spud
And very quickly deep fry it
Then take a huge dollop of
That thick yellow stuff
Don’t worry just how much
You can never have enough.
A nice thick blob to make
A very tasty tasty dip
Then use one by one
On every single chip.
An explosion of joy
Follows each immersion
It really is a case of
Taste bud subversion.
Oh vinegar can be nice
It never ever goes to waste
But lather on the yellow stuff
For that cosmopolitan taste.
It’s the simpler things in life
That can give it zest and glow
Like a bag of red hot chips
And a splodge of Mayo.
You can keep your Fine Dining,
Your food artfully arranged
Your Meat barely cooked,
Oh how things have changed,
Just give me fish and ‘taties,
Wrapped and ready to go
To be Eaten with the fingers
Hot fish and ‘taties alfresco
