Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín was a Mexican general and politician. He led the Mexican army of 600 men that defeated 6,500 invading French forces, including the elite French legionnaires at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 (mostly celebrated in the United States as Cinco de Mayo).

In 1862, Mexicans were elated As the French army was decimated Today is Cinco de Mayo Tacos—free Pico de gallo! The Battle of Puebla is celebrated Emperor Maximillian was fooled by the Mexicans he thought he ruled Carlota, the Queen, insane Died back in France from her pain After a firing squad had ensued

Anaya, you pack a lot of history into this. Sad really how people have to suffer for freedom and then we just celebrate. Although...that's not 100% true these days. As a result of this limerick set, I reviewed more of the history and appreciate your poetic exploration of this Mexican period. Great picture card you've made as well!!

Send me some pico-de-gallo, I love Mexican food! California should remember that our cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco were founded when this was part of Mexican frontier. Years before the US's excited. A classy and festive limerick for the holiday! Robert
