Today is the eighth of August and it’s a very special day
Family and friends are here to celebrate Marion's birthday
She's a loving mother to her children and grandchildren too
Gardening and reading books are what she loves to do.
And there are many celebrities sharing Marion's birth year
Danny Boyle, Ravi Shanker, Tom Hanks, and Carrie Fisher
Andy Garcia ,Sue Barker, Theresa May, and Bryan Cranston
Along with La Toya Jackson, Sebastian Coe, and Mel Gibson.
In that year, some musical events made the headline news
Elvis sang “Heartbreak Hotel”, Guy Mitchell "Singing The Blues"
“Roll Over Beethoven” was a hit for the legendary Chuck Berry
Little Richard came on the scene with his hit “Long Tall Sally”.
Johnny Cash’s “I walk The Line”, "Que Sera Sera" by Doris Day
It was the start of the Rock 'n' Roll era that was here to stay

But the eighth of August was one of the most notable events
Teresa and Luke welcomed Marion and became proud parents
Years later Bernadette and Luke were born adding to the family
Now they're all proud parents themselves and living life happily.
Happy occasions become fond memories and with you they stay
You'll reflect on them often and like a movie in your mind play

Hannah today balances tricycling and Uni.
She was born April 14 1993 in Glasgow,
And took silver at the Worlds over in Italy
In the T2 time trial, and then in the fast flow
Of the road race she won a bronze beauty.
At the UCI Road Worlds in Switzerland,
Hannah two times finished in fourth place,
And in Rio de Janeiro in the Brazilian land,
Hannah came fifth behind Carol Cook, ace.

What's Love Got To Do With It
Tina Turner, the singer, the legend, died on May 24, 2023
at her lakeshore home Chateau Algonquin, in Switzerland
on the Zurich Lake, it was her home for three decades
fans lay flowers, lit candles and left messages of love
at the cast-iron gates overcome with grief, she was 83
Tina's humble beginnings, her voice, and her strength
would make her beloved the world over and an inspiration
she had a swagger, a sexuality, an unstoppable energy
wild crazy hair, dancing legs and hips, and gravely voice
born, Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939
a young girl who sang in the church choir and
then, as a teen went to nightclubs with her sister
watching Ike Turner she said would put her in a trance
one night she was given a microphone and sang
and sang all night with Ike and that was the beginning
Ike loved her voice and made her his lead singer
with his band the Kings of Rhythm and girl group, Ikettes
there were tours, albums, hit records, it all seemed wonderful
but behind the scene things were not good for Tina
Ike was violent, abusive, with an unpredictable temper
he hit Tina, raped her, belittled her, instilled fear and
never gave her any of the money that she earned
this went on until one night after a brutal fight
Tina ran with 36 cents in her pocket to a Ramada Hotel
she divorced Ike and began her amazing solo career
there would hit albums, number 1 hits, world tours,
Grammy's, movie roles, induction into the Hall of Fame
so much success it is hard to put it all in this poem
she lost two sons to death, fought various illnesses
for years, but did marry the love of her life, Irwin Bach
she had happiness, she had sorrow and she had strength
and that is how I will remember this incredible woman
a woman who fought to come back from hell and who
would inspire the world with her amazing talent,
rest in peace, Tina Turner
David Wier OBE started out with a crowd of only five,
Watching him race in the fast track events very alive,
In the swift wheelchair races, as he is spinally injured,
From his birth, and could not use his legs anchored.
Disappointed with these Paralympics in Atlanta 1996,
Dignity did beckon him to ask people then to quickly fix,
This sheer ignorance about the worth of disabled folks,
So that the crowds then came, and disability was talks.
He’s a marathon racer and so won London six times,
He won two golds at the 2008 Beijing summertimes,
He won four golds at the 2012 Paralympics of flares,
Three for track, and one for the marathon that wares.
He succeeded in the Great North Runs with records,
And in the Great Manchester runs, like many Concords,
And has flown to Switzerland for the Oensingen run,
And to New York as well as to Portugal, Lisbon of sun.
Baroness Tanni-Gray Thompson inspired his long days,
The female wheelchair racer who won 16 medals, daze,
At the Paralympics, starting in Seoul in 1988 with speed,
She took the crowd to a very certain magic place indeed.
Twice he has won the British Wheelchair Sports Award,
He was disabled sports personality of the year, forward,
In 2006 as he was named, and in 2010 proud and tall,
He became part of the London Youth Games Fame Hall.
Wier has three kids, two with his present partner Emily,
A boy and two girls, and to Emily he’s not an anomaly,
Because he loves her very much, and who’s yet again,
Pregnant with baby, and so won’t being going to Rio ken.

A is for Australia, full of weird beasts,
Where even the cute ones can bite you at least.
B is for Brazil, where football is life,
And people dance samba with joy (and no strife).
C is for Canada, polite and so nice,
Even their insults come with advice.
D is for Denmark, with pastries divine,
And a happiness level off the chart line.
E is for Egypt, land of the old,
Where mummies stay wrapped and pyramids hold.
F is for France, where bread is a dream,
But don’t ever mess with their wine or their cream.
G is for Germany, beer, cars, and might,
And sausages eaten at morning and night.
H is for Hungary, but don’t get it wrong,
They have food so good, you’ll eat all day long.
I is for India, spices galore,
Curry so hot, it’ll knock you to the floor.

Lions just chilling while tourists get riled.

N is for Norway, fjords and cold air,
And prices so high, your wallet will swear.
O is for Oman, deserts and heat,
A land where the camels take naps on the street.
P is for Portugal, wine and the sea,
And a love for Ronaldo, as strong as can be.
Q is for Qatar, money so high,
Even their ATMs wear suits and a tie.
R is for Russia, where vodka is king,
And winter is long—it lasts through the spring!
S is for Switzerland, chocolate and banks,
And watches precise to time all your pranks.
T is for Thailand, food spicy and sweet,
With beaches so dreamy, you’ll never want to leave.
U is for Uganda, gorillas so cool,
Living their best lives, just breaking the rules.
V is for Vietnam, coffee so strong,
One sip and you're jittery all the day long.
W is for Wales, with sheep on the hills,
And words in their language that give you the chills.
X is for Xianggang (Hong Kong's other name),
Sky-high buildings and dim sum the game.
Y is for Yemen, ancient and grand,
With mountains and history spread through the land.
Z is for Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls,
Where nature goes big, and adventure calls!

With laughs along the way for you and me!
I walked your streets.
Clean.
Silent.
Beautiful.
Yet beneath marble order,
blood remembers.
Zurich smiled.
The Limmat whispered.
It knows the names
money forgets.
Here, gold arrives
without questions.
Here, crime washes its hands
and calls it neutrality.
No empire of land.
No empire of soil.
An empire of vaults.
Of silence.
Lake Zurich wept.
“We are rich,” it said,
“but our wealth stands
on borrowed bones.”
Drug lords rest here.
Murderers sleep well.
Stolen futures
earn interest.
Perhaps you had no choice.
Perhaps survival chose you.
But Machiavelli warned:
Power fed by shadow
must answer the dark.
He who lives by the sword,
dies by the sword.
What is taken in secrecy
returns in time.
With witnesses.
Here I come to save the day!
That means that Mighty Mouse is on his way!
This theme song delighted us in the sixties, we knew what to expect
Our Super hero began flying toward us, starting out as tiny speck.
When he got closer, we began to cheer and shout.
We knew someone was going to get the wrath of his clout.
He took us to exotic locals like Switzerland, Holland and Italy.
Sometimes he would bring prehistoric times into our TV.
No matter where Mighty Mouse went, he saved the day.
With this super mouse, villains did not dare try to play.
He pounded and pummeled them and trussed them up too.
Watching these bullies get what they deserved never made me blue.

Hollow man

The hollow man sits
Bent and alone
On a bench in the park
Where he has a home.
No one seems to
Care anymore -
When he is seen by passersby
They don't stare or adore.
He gave up his feelings
As he did his life -
No longer caring
If he lives or dies.
He lost too much
He lost too well
He has become
Hollow
An empty shell.
Whether cold or warm
Light or dark
He still sits there -
Alone
He sits in the park.
