Sonnet 43

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee from the genesis.
Blessed was our encounter. Sovereignty spoke and we had no choice but to listen.
Our bodies, seemingly understanding the magnitude of the moment, locked hands and lips became the seal.
Though marred by sin and self, I am all the better for it.

I love thee in the process.
This friendship, so anchoring in the tussle of blooming and cocooning and laughter and hurt and distance and time and chance. We knew not what we were given but you were smart enough not to taint it.
Then love arrived. And grew. And grows.
You, the captain of our ship treaded these uncharted seas with the utmost care.
A tenderness that protects yet prunes.
We vowed to try and try we still.
Thank you for being intentional then and now.
Still steady at the wheel, with many waves and storms we’ve passed and mannier ahead, our ship has a glut of seas to chart yet still.

I love thee in the turbulence, as we hold each other’s hands firm.
I love thee when hurt and pride and self stand in the way, yearning to yield to meekness.
I love thee in the misapprehensions. A thing of treasure, you are worth every frustrating conversation.
I love thee in the shallow. When beauty is the standard, you win every olympic.
I love thee in the stillness, when words cannot suffice. A look, a touch, a note are but a few of the supplements.
I love thee deliberately. A choosing on the daily. I love thee in the becoming.

I love thee in the forward. A thing of hope, I shall love thee better then.
I love thee more than I did then, a now greater than yesteryear.
The future shines all the brighter with the thought of you in it. What bliss, it fuels my love all the more!

Even More Somewhat Twisted Thoughts of the Day

ON THE ROCKS

Talk about bad luck, I hit rock bottom and broke a leg
One advantage to hitting rock bottom is at least I know which way is up now
I hit Rock’s bottom and he promptly kicked my bottom from one end to the other
It usually bottoms out when I hit rock bottom

WAXING PHILOSOPHIC (YEAH YOU MOPPED, BUT DID YOU WAX?... I THOUGHT NOT!)

A tree fell in the forest and a hearing impaired gentleman was nearby so it did NOT make a sound
You think, therefore you are and just who do think you are, anyway?
What does not kill me only makes me weak in the stomach when I am presented with the hospital bill
People who live in bakeries should not throw scones

DONCHA’ JUST LOVE IT?

Love is blind and keeps bumping into things
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways! Um…
I loved her to death but got off on a technicality
Star-crossed lovers occasionally get crossed up and can get rather cross about it too

I SAW ONE THE OTHER DAY I SWEAR TO GOD I DID

I made a Snowman that frankly speaking, looked Abominable
The Abominable Snowman retired to Florida and melted on the spot
Bigfoot treated The Abominable Snowman and family to dinner and footed the entire bill (however, things got pretty hairy when his credit card was refused)
Bigfoot often puts his foot in his mouth and he’s got a big mouth too

YOU’RE A REAL PAIN IN THE ASS AND STOP ACTING LIKE A HORSE’S ASS, SMART-ASS AND MY ASS CAN WHIP YOUR ASS ANY DAY OF THE WEEK TOO

A mule got a species change operation and made a real ass of himself
So WHAT if I’ve got it all backwards? (You whole-ass- b_tch-of- a-son!)
Secretariat lost his ass in a High-Stakes poker game
A horse was unjustly discriminated against because it was a horse of a different color

The List

How do I love thee,,
Let me count the ways
That seems even hokey for a poet to say
But hearing your voice and feeling your heart
Brings the lists alive that I’ve had from the start

As a young girl watching Cinderella
The prince such a handsome, loving fellow
You learn to wish, you learn to dream
But as time marches on its not all as it seems

The young girl chooses her first beau
She falls in love and wants the fairy tale to be so
But the pain and torment of unequally yoked
Soon shows on her face, she tries to sugar coat
Her family can’t know the sadness she feels
She must lean on God and learn how to heal

Three decades have past, her heart free at last
No longer a prince charming to be in the cast
The list packed away as a young girl’s obsession
She realizes she needs no one save for God’s own affection

Then quite unexpectantly God turns her around
Could the love of her life still be found
She doesn’t want to wish she doesn’t want to dream
Can this man really be what he seems
His heart full of God, his words full of truth
All of her boundaries just started to poof
She tried not to love him, she tried not to care
But this man was offering his life now to share

The list she thought gone, now came to the light
But by the guiding of the Father she had to rewrite
What’s important to her now so different than before
Its okay to trust now but trust in the Lord
For He has shown what love truly is
And the man in her life she now wants to be his.
The man oh so loving, his heart full of God
His words are so precious on life’s journey they’ll now trod

A list is okay when God tempers your hand
Just give Him your heart and on His word always stand

From sunset 'til dawn, how do I love thee
To the music of the cooing doves song
From the crack of dawn with sunny skies or gray
With each thought that passes into light
Of matter gray, each breath that I take
How do I love thee, often my heart
Strays into a lovely day with flowers gay
How do I love thee, deep, long, with each breath
That I inhale and release never to cease
How do I love thee, inadequately pure
Of this my soul is forever sure
How do I love thee, with phileo love
Sometimes eros but await total agape

How Do I Love Thee? (Sonnet 43)

"Elizabeth Barrett Browning, 1806 - 1861

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death."

Eros(love)..physical, sensual love between a husband and wife
Phileo(love)...brotherly love mostly displayed by friendship
Agape(love)...powerful, noblest type of love: sacrificial love..humans in the human state can only seek to develop this kind of love while here on earth..We will be completed with this kind of love in our glorified bodies after death..

Sort of a sonnet/much poetic license taken in this one..

           ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Each morning I wake to see thy sweet face.
Love, do not speak of death to me again.
A life without thee would cause sharpest pain.
No harm shall reach thee in my warm embrace.

I shall speak to thee of love deep and true.
The one I adore shines with brightest light.
Stars fade in my eyes when she is in sight.
Tis thee, my dearest, sweet as morning dew.

Thou hast won my heart, so there is no need
For a measurement or counting of ways.
Love shall live after flowers turn to seed.

I vow to love thee the rest of my days.
To thy grave or mine I shall not concede
I doth love thee more than my heart conveys.

Roses In Spring

In the springtime the beauty of roses come to life
True of beauteous blue days , and the sun rays do shine
The rays nourishing the soil blooms the beautiful bud
The dark clouds of a blue day then must it rain
Also nourishing then the beautiful rose blooms
Beauteous be thee rose that in our soul
Sprouts feelings of love making us completely whole
The long stem in red purest too of white
And dozens of roses from our true love
Are a gift from the mysterious skies up above
And with our eyes , we see this tremendous sight
And the imagery be born by the ultimate sunlight
"How do I love thee, let me count the way"?
Give me a rose! that blooms as to say
I love thee like the flower that warms my heart
A new day with a symbol and a brand new start
My love to giveth this wonderful flower
Then promotes that of also the flower of power
The power of love everlasting too then my dear
Brings glory and sunshine each coming new year
And as I see the pouring rain in the paths of my life
I see beauty of the garden each step that I take
Each day! the progress of the buds in bloom
Marks my soul! With each breath that I take
And the baby's breath as I breathe I do see
The bundle of love prominently surrounding me
Thus then love - that it symbolizes in my heart
Bring us significance of beauty - not tearing us apart
Thus again give me a rose ! With love I do declare
To say the words I love you! and remind me you care
And on the bluest of days when dark clouds are in the air
I have the sun to look forward to for the bundle of love
Buds blooming in abundance - I see such beauty
And in my heart - I dance - loving you truly.

Clearly a Vision

Beauty! Inspired by the eyes of God
Vividly beautiful visions in my mind
My senses are awake - I feel , I see
The luster - the elegance of the charming rose
I recollect the memories as they linger
Petal by petal - breathtaking the bud
I touch the velvety flower with it's thorn it is silk
I am mesmerized by it's loving abilities
My cognitive thoughts then embrace me
As it multiples by the dozen - the bouquet
I breathe the prominence of its scent
The sweet fruit gives breath , it over powers me
The beauty of " How do I love thee" thus I say
I say it with a rose - here it is , for you
My mind wanders and those visions I see
Of its bloom embedded in my brain
With love - I am infatuated as if I knew
The flower hypnotized , my daring thoughts to tell
That the inspiration that I only knew so well
Would overwhelm me and then I taste the bud
Embracing myself I do then clearly refrain
From bitter thoughts of my life I endure
I see God's beauty can always open the door
Beneath the snow in these winter blues
I visualize my precious rose it grows
Stunted til life remarkably resurrects
Thus the beloved rose in the ground , God protects
We open our eyes and soon the visions in bloom
Our senses are clear and the rose be our breath
To build a love binding growth of life after death
And as the roots silently listen may the rose then be loved
Nourished by God sunshine and the beauty of rain
Listening to every strength of the shining rays and every drop
Then may the trickling rain be known to then inspire
The beauty of the Bud, in our hearts, may it bear no pain.

Her Lover's Response - How Do I Love Thee Contest

My dear, I love thee too in many ways.
You fill my heart and soul each day and night.
Alone I am when thou art far from sight.
Without thy love, my days fall short of grace.
My heart is full of love for thee through days
Of comfort and of strife, for thou do light
My every path that leads to good and right.
For thee my heart and soul hold life-long praise.
Our love we keep with passion deep and use
The fire to feed our love's non-ending faith.
Thou strength I do embrace to never lose
The closeness that I feel with every breath.
No matter how our days are spent I choose
To love thee always, even after death.

What magnitude of love, thou hath for me
A flowing fountain welleth up inside
Overfilling my heart with love and pride
Merely mirrors the love I share for thee
Our two hearts were meshed by God's blessed grace
Our love strengthens the tie that binds our souls
Untempered by heaven, forever it grows
Immeasurable love through time and space
Countless stars will sleep, winds will rise and fall
My darling, I thirst and hunger for thee
Please bringeth forth thy love and comfort me
The love we share encompasses all

Such Divine love before unknown to man
Such true love shall never be known again
