Wagontire Oregon For Poem a Thon

April 6 Wagontire, Oregon
1973

In 1973, I went on a road trip
With my father

We left Berkeley to go to Yakima
Where my father had a summer cabin

He was a college professor
And had July and August off

And we spent the summers
Every summer from 1968 to 1978

Our whole dysfunctional family
Our annual road trip to hell and back
As we did not get along at all

We decided to drive through Eastern Oregon
Just my father and me
Just for the hell of it

The rest of the family was already there

My father and I shared a travel lust
One of the few things we shared

This was one of our best trips
We got along
Which was unusual

Normally our relationship
Was fraught
As we were so different

We left Klamath Falls
A real nothing burg in those days

And headed east along highway 395
As we entered the desert of eastern Oregon
We entered a different world

High mountain dessert
Almost no one on the road

Then we saw the sign
Wagontire Oregon
100 miles ahead

99 miles ahead
98 miles ahead

We counted down the signs
Miles after miles
As we drove into the gathering dusk

We speculated that Wagontire
Must be a giant truck stop
In the middle of no where

We pulled into the town
Nothing there but a gas station
Motel and café

We decided to stop
Last gas for 100 miles
According to the highway signs

In the morning
We chatted with the owner

He was the sheriff, the fire chief
The owner of the motel, gas station
The only business in town

And the only place open
For one hundred miles

I noticed a highway sign outside
Welcome to Wagontire, Oregon
Population 2 ½ humans 10 dogs, 50.000 sheep

I asked the Sherriff
Say who is the ½ human?

My idiot son!

And we left.
200 miles later
We finally left Eastern Oregon

2016

In 2016 my wife and I drove through Eastern Oregon
As part of our epic cross country trip
10,000 miles
31 states in three months

On the way from Medford to Yellowstone
We drove along highway 395

The signs for Wagontire was gone
And we drove through the town

The motel was abandoned
Nothing there at all

And that sign was gone too

I said I suppose the idiot son
Never took over the business

And we speculated about Wagontire
And all other nothing burgs
We drove through that summer

Heart of Trump’s America
True fly over country

Ruins

It's about time we talk of ruins.
So, let us talk, for you never know,
How long ears of hope will remain receptive.

Your lips are missing, and your kisses fall,
Like ripe plums and tint my confession,
Like coffee stains with smell of rust.

Looking back, dreams had stories,
About laughters blooming in dews on trembling grass,
With roots growing into layers of blue skies.

That dark sweater you began knitting,
Lies lifeless by a woollen ball,
Like buried half of a rainbow.

My greys are silvery now, and my smile
Looks like a scar, but my heart
Keeps shredding dead skins.

Footprints covered by caddish shadows
Of hubristic tongues,
Never to be retraced, and
The wish to carry your whispers beyond life,
Scavenged by beaks of time,
Is nothing but a piece of
History's torn chorion.

Entangled in my pensive repentance,
Memory of a girl (assuming),
Whose playful steps ruefully erased
Even before she was assisted into the world,
Stares back from an obsolete painting.

I sense blood seething in my veins,
But with no ill-will.
If only i could stop this hour from passing away,
And touch life one more time,
Gently and wisely, perhaps sweet palpitations
Would be heard knocking from within.

Lying in the heap of fallen bricks
Of dilapidated castle of Eros,
Where, once upon a time,
Our romance was folktale for angels and fairies,
I'm supposed to be bleeding the high-noon sun
To feed yesterday's vampiric fleas.

My body no longer lives on bread and grains,
But on tears and prayers, and
Keeps on living, surprising the undertaker and
my foes,
Who begin to think
I am here to stay indefinitely.
So, I labour to hasten my swan song
To gladden those who want to witness my exit.

The yarn with which
I began weaving a flag,
Has been sold to brothels of politics,
Where patriotism is only a slang
In perorations of capricious pimps.
My nights are haunted by ghosts
Of betrayed slogans
I once coined on fisting graffiti.
Standing amidst graves of words
Spoken inconspicuously,
I see soldiers placing putrid shocks and
Ugly boots
On books strewn across the floor
Of my old school's library
Which is now a fortified barrack.

But when I see tombs sleeping like babies,
In quietness of a cemetery,
I beg you -
Don't let me die without a wound, and
Even if it is in pretensive nostalgia,
Bury me with bloodstained kiss.

A Lily Standing On the Pathway Between March and April

The sun peeks his face out from the passing wind
still chilly and cold, and in this air the tree branches
stretch their arms to hold the sun as if sails on the deep and gray sky

The sun that is out of reach of a hand
may be a hope; no, it ought to be a hope

One night I saw a wayfarer, becoming a moonbeam,
going toward April stepping on the footmarks March
has left behind

Although he has gone through so many hills and high waters
with a knapsack on his back that was full with the countless
sentiments he put in it for pity’s sake, the sack was emptied;

for the lapse of time makes things wear and tear
his garment was worn to rags, and when the wind
passes through it penetrates the garment to chill the bone

The deep anxiety he is unable to shake off, and therefore,
reflected on the running water murmuring through the field
as ripples of moonbeam, which is not from the fleeting of time
or his sufferings while he was walking among the foes, but because
he is sorry for and worries about friends he has to leave behind

The friends, not many in number shared his happiness
at the time of banqueting, surrounding the table though
plain and simple, abundance in God;

at the time counting the falling stars lying on a stone pillow
by the gap between rocks. The friends, not in damnation but
in endurance and warmhearted understanding, talked about better day to come while burning the passions in the bone fire on a day when they were wet and shivering in early spring drizzle

For the days he was with his friends were too short,
it caused him an embarrassment in counting the days,
yet they were unforgettable moments of joyous and happy experiences

As he walked through the field with friends he talked about tomorrow
standing on the hill top side by side, he asked them to pray for him,
sitting on the sands by the water he sighed for he has to leave
the friends, the sweet and bitter memories behind

Nonetheless, he cannot just stand by a roadside as an emotionless stone,
he crosses the hill under the shade of a waning moon, and when
the humble hearted teary-eyed wanderer blooms as a lily on the other side of
the hill in dawning, the sunray fall on the lily on the dew
as hope to those who remember him, as happiness to the friends
he left behind, as the covenant of the Lord to all who trust in him

Ah Tis Nothing Greater Than

Ah... tis nothing greater than...
malfunctioning heater on brisk winter day!

Thee particular date being
December twenty eighth,
two thousand nineteen, I saith
the Jack of all trades
maintenance technician

Kevin Blank said he would notify
HVAC expert in good faith,
yet to compliment clangorous din...
I called upon the ghost of Marley's wraith.

Thus despite compressor issuing
cacophonous, deafening,
ear splitting noise
clattering din louder
than convention of reindeer -
doubled as all boys

(choir) followed by cavalcade
of santa claus, he employs,
the missus of course with equipoise,
and countless elves pressed
for service mending
broken brand new toys.

Why... yes twas during
recent brutal bitter cold spell
methought, yours truly got sent,
where absolute zero temperature
more frigid than hell

of course, I felt like human popsicle
management didn't give a lick,
no matter yours truly gave rebel yell
Billy me you, I immediately
yearned (some weeks back) for April
May, June... some tell
tale sign to alleviate pell mell

bone crushing polar vortex
preserved frozen awful
botox smile impossible mission to quell,
nor avoid frostbite
to deep freeze every cell
millenniums later despite
climate changed dystopian future
thawed out body reason to kvell.

Forsooth mindlessly jabbering away
jaw frenziedly attempting to convey
how this schlemiel,
would be war re: not game to foray
toward distant forbidding terrain
fifty shades of gray,
alien unrecognizable – nay

boor hood of the late Mister Rogers,
nonetheless expressed gratitude
confessed, I unconsciously did pray
while suspended animation did stay

slowing or stopping
of biological function
physiological capabilities
unpitted and preserved - yea.

Hence upon being
and getting woke
feeling like I slept forever
and a day - no joke
most certainly well rested

constitution I did evoke
intensely scrutinizing men
chilled wren, and women folk,
who appeared out of this world
mutated into Roanoke
smooth as glass skin cloak

against ultraviolet rays
causing skin cancer
their attenuated limbs strong as oak
versatile to prod and poke,
whereby superior petsmart
doggone noggin could invoke

telepathic communication
interestingly enough issuing smoke
signals, whenever danger present
and capable to disappear
as if doing breast stroke.

Until you make me cry

I take the Flyer and push it to my side.
I made a lot of effort for this sight.
Please let me alone.
,,Can we go ahead and talk in a much more warm tone?"
Cringe.
,,I think it's pretty"
So egoistic.
An inch
I am just going to stay quite, let's just see what the teacher has to say to both of our work, that's more realistic.
The last inch
,,Mia, look in your suitcase"
You saying that with that amusing face.
When I opened it,
I saw the trash of an candy and threw it in yours, back coming to sit.
TheyTalkTalkTalkTalk
Ouch
,,miaaa, don't listen to these losers when they bark",
He winks.
,,You alright?", no my heart sinks.
Am I going to still stay here and act like, no my eyebrows movement icks and the shaking lips kick.
Standupstandupstandup
The chair,
It clirrsclirrsclirrs
It will fallfallfall
My hands close my mouth which is going hurt to call,
to let out words,
for making everthings somehow work.
,,May I go to the toilet please",
,,Sure, is everything on ease?"
I left and closed the door.
beatbeatbeatbeat my hand signals me back: ,,Could I step in the room to make everyone thinking nothing was to worry for? But my heart"
Splaaaashh, schhhhhhhhhh (did I relax now?), splaaaash schhhhhhh (ah,no!!), splaaaash, schhh (I am cry i n g a g ain).
Could they come in? No am I dumb boys can't come in.
I need to go in again, just 20 minutes a thin.
Just walk
Towardstowardstowowards
,,mia"
I need to ignore-
Runrunrunrunrun
He's not following, is he?
The stairs a muddy, after every step I will see them classy.
Right?
,,Mia, here are your things?"
,,Thank you"
Smilebrightsmilebright
Why does he behind us observes us?
They defiently didn't took my stuff.
Oh, he did.
He packed my things.

I'm just going to sit somewhere else.
,,hey, can I sit next to you?"
,,sure. Is rverything okay?"
,,yeah, no worries I am just sick"
,,Ah, okay."

Oh, him.
I should smile-
Why is he there?
,,Is everything alright?"

,,You know it wasn't him who did that, It was the boy with who you were joking with."
I didn't cry about that.
Couldn't he think?

Premium Member Putin's Great Blunder

Putin said he wouldn't invade, but then he's known for his lies
So when he sent in his murdering scum, it came as no surprise
It will go down in the annals of history, as Putin's great blunder
And if anything it's united Ukraine, and not tore it asunder.

American President Joe Biden has now found a way
To make that despicable war criminal, Vlad Putin pay
To Ukraine he's sending lethal predator, and reaper drones
That will help to build stocks of dog food, of Russian bones.

Russian soldiers are not human from what we have seen
You've read and seen the evidence, so you know what I mean
They're gutless and have yellow streaks all down their backs
And scurry down to the sewers when Ukraine counter attacks.

Russians fire from a distance and let their lethal missiles fly
At hospitals, nurseries and any innocent civilians passing by
They only kill unarmed men, women and children, who pose no threat
But Russia, the civilised world is watching and we will not forget.

Red flags are what the Russians are using, to justify a crime
But the world is not stupid and it can see through the grime
A Russian town on the border was shelled so they could blame Ukraine
Then used it as an excuse to inflict, more misery and pain.

Every Despot who commits war crimes will always pay the price
Putin the war dog will be put down, Ukraine will not think twice
He'll have to surround himself with thugs and be lucky every day
But an avenger will only have to strike lucky once, to make Putin pay.

No tears were shed when he lost his flagship, in the black sea
It is one lethal weapon less to use, against that war torn country
The west thought sanctions alone would bring this war to an end
But it hasn't really worked, so more arms the west must send.

The battle for the Eastern Donbas region is well underway
And for those brave Ukrainian defenders, we must all pray
They're fighting to defend their freedom and sovereignty
But only military aid from the West will ensure their victory.

The horrific scenes we've seen on the news of towns reduced to rubble
Are because Putin knows he's not winning and that he's in trouble
At his forthcoming military parade, he's hoping to announce a victory
But if he was an honest man he'd tell his country, that he's failed miserably.

Premium Member Where Is Gethsemane

Over the 2000 year period since the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, thousands of people have toured the 'Holy Sights' in Jerusalem and The Holy Land. One of those sights is a garden known as Gethsemane at the foot of or near the Mt. of Olives. However, the exact location of Gethsemane is not clearly known.*

The title question and theme is really not intended to be a search for the literal garden called Gethsemane, but rather the identity and whereabouts of our spiritual Gethsemene. We are not looking to locate the physical Gethsemane but rather to experience an encounter with God. The trip by Jesus and his apostles was taken rather often, but Let's imagine ourselves in the background looking in on the night that Jesus went into the Garden of Gethsemane accompanied by 11 of his 12 apostles. On that night, we would have clearly seen Gethsemane as:

A place of SANCTUARY where we seek stillness, peace, and quiet
A place of PRAYER where we meet with God and converse with Him
A place of WAITING where we obey His orders and move at His commands
A place of SLEEPING. Sleeping is not the purpose here and should be avoided
A place of TEMPTATION. "Pray, that you do not enter into temptation"
A place of SWEATING. Prayer is 'not a day in the park' but 'an engagement of warriors'. A place of AGONY and WARFARE where we engage, fight, endure, and never quit. A place of SERENITY. God gives us a 'free will' and asks us to 'surrender it freely'.

04052019PoSoupContest, Favorite Poem From Last Week (March 31-April 6, 2019) Poetry Contest, Lu Loo; Original Title, Where Is Gethsemane

*Wycliffe Bible Encyclopedia, "Gethsemane",p.675, 1975, ISBN 0-8024-9697-0 There are four[6] locations claimed to be the place where Jesus prayed on the night he was betrayed.
1. The Church of All Nations overlooking a garden with the "Rock of the Agony". 2. The location near the Tomb of the Virgin Mary to the north. 3. The Greek Orthodox location to the east. 4. The Russian Orthodox orchard, next to the Church of Maria Magdalene.
Modern scholarship acknowledges that the exact location of Gethsemane is unknown

Hello, I say to my one and only sweetest devotion
Daydreamer, I know it was like a million years ago
When rolling in the deep, river Lea stirred emotion
I miss you my hometown glory, but you don't know

Daydreamer, I know it was like a million years ago
I want to make you feel my love, I'm crazy for you
I miss you my hometown glory, but you don't know
Don't melt my heart to stone, our love is still true

I want to make you feel my love, I'm crazy for you
Why don't you remember, we set fire to the rain
Don't melt my heart to stone, our love is still true
All I ask is lay me down gently if it all ends in vain

Why don't you remember, we set fire to the rain
Rumor has it, someone like you dating my friend
All I ask is lay me down gently if it all ends in vain
Water under the bridge if we've hit the deadend

Rumor has it, someone like you dating my friend
Turning tables, allow me to confess, I found a boy
Water under the bridge if we've hit the deadend
Sweet like you when we were young, he's my joy

Turning tables, allow me to confess, I found a boy
Take it all, cooed my love in the dark, near skyfall
Sweet like you when we were young, he's my joy
He won't go there yet, but I'll be waiting for his call

Take it all, cooed my love in the dark, near skyfall
When rolling in the deep, river Lea stirred emotion
He won't go there yet, but I'll be waiting for his call
Hello, I say to my one and only sweetest devotion

Premium Member If You Were My Bride You Be By My Side Until the Passing

If you were my bride you'd be by myside until the passing
until the passing
If you were my bride you'd be by myside until the darkest hour
My God would shower you with dreams and vision
Awaken you, make you a nurturer
If you were my bride you'd be eye to eye with me as we praise the Lord together
There would be no place we could hide
Never, ever being selfish or reeling in our pride
standing together always until He comes for us
Separately or together
Love

If you were my bride you'd be by myside until the passing
until the blessings of God
surrounds, engulfs us, together forever until death
and even beyond our sins
and even beyond our flesh we will be birth again

If you were my bride you be on loan to me;
From the heavenly one, Father above
He's gave you to me on loan for just a moment
You see you(we) all belong to Him
Never, ever being selfish nor reeling in our pride;
Standing together always until He comes, He comes for us
Separately or together
What is the meaning of this
Love
If you were my bride you'd be by my side until the passing
You would be there until dawn
And if by chance I'm wrong, then I'll see you on, see you on the other side
If you were my bride you'd bee by my side until the passing
until the passing
ever lasting, ever lasting whom am I to lie
There maybe better guys
But you better had asked God. . .
If you were my bride
Thank you for the moment in life God allowed you to be with me
Wasn't a daydream but a honored reality
together we were
There was no place to hide
Never, ever being selfish or reeling in our pride
standing together always until He comes for us
Separately or together
Love
Standing together always until He comes, He comes for us
Separately or together
What is the meaning of this
Love
If you were my bride you'd be by my side until the passing
You would be there until dawn
And if by chance I'm wrong, then I'll see you on, see you on the other side

Premium Member If I Could Have My Own Way

The world does be a mysterious place to live in
Already hampered with its yet to be unlocked secrets
It does cause us all to enjoy while, at the same time, having us basked in sin
If I could change some things about it, pray, life would be as sweet as a ballet

See, humans would need to become pure
No more shall there be wars to endure
Humans shall be tolerant of one another
Even if differences of all sorts, around us all, do hover

Religions would need to be more unifying
Indeed, Holy Books, of the way to Heaven do teach
But then, humans, of hatred and mockery for one another do be screeching
As if, of peace and tolerance, their religions do not preach

Earth has had enough of its fill of pollution
Machines and gadgets I would bring forward,
Having the preservation of nature as their main mission
No more would trash and dirt fill the nooks and crooks of the world

Pollution does cause the death of life
Nature does become impure to our health
So much that Earth does feel like she is going on her way to her own death
Pray, a new world it shall be, one with air so fresh

If I could change more about the world,
Why, I would make sure death and disease do be in-existent
Pray, death does be so bold, it does cause us all to be so sad
Disease and the loss of our loved ones do cause us all to fall to our own detriment

Why, of course, humans and animals would have eternity to live
But at the same time, they would need to be made of good feelings
No more evil, no more sin, no more harms
No more disturbed thoughts, no more wants of abuse

My world, if I could have my way, would be free from poverty
Each and everyone of us would have his own share of gold
So that content shall be his stomach and that of his family
Content shall also be his heart, indeed, content shall be his little world

Why, does the world be a place where we, fallen souls, come to grieve
Does it be a place where our souls are to be always ringing with sorrowful alarm
Why, I do claim not to have, at my disposal, the one magic finger
But I shall try my best, to make of my world, a place, one so better!

This rhyme does be my prayer
May the Heavens bestow upon me, their power
Pray, if I could have my way, the world shall be the solace of all of life
Indeed, such a vision does be in my heart, the strength of my own faith!
