WE CALL THIS AN ATTA BOUIS!
1/3 CUP OF GORGANZOLA
5 TABLESPOONS OF BUTTER
Our nephew Rick and his wife Laura in a move we found quite sweet
for Deborah’s belated birthday…invited us out to eat.
“You have a choice to make.” Laura would assert
“We could take you to a restaurant for lunch and then to another for dessert.
“Or…”Knowing your affinity for sweets”.
(it’s true…sometimes we eat sweets until it hurts)
“We could skip lunch all together and just go for the desserts.”
Deborah did not hesitate…it’s as if my mind she read….
then smiling into her phone…”Oh, just desserts.” She said.
They took us to a restaurant named Sucré where we knew our sweet desire would be quenched…
because as we would soon be learning sucré means sugar…in French.
We were greeted with a cornucopia of sweets…
the moment we walked into the store….
beautiful pastries in shapes and colors we’ve never seen before.
After taking our order for 9 different pastries…
the woman behind the counter seemed nonplussed…..
when she asked how many more people would be joining our party and we said…
Why, it’s just the 4 of us.
We ate beautiful concoctions…made with things called yuzu curd, and strawberry glee
and with each bite we felt this need to enthusiastically applause
Did I mention the goat cheese carrot cake, the blueberry tart…or the hazelnut dacquoise?
One of our favorites was a Kouign-Amann…which in each of us caused a happy tear to drop…
It’s basically a croissant made with extra butter…and caramelized sugar on top.
Any time we get together with Rick and Laura…we laugh…we talk…we eat…
this particular time…the conversation was augmented by all that sucré in the sweets.
We feel blessed and loved anytime we see Rick and Laura
and this time…as we ate sweets until it hurt…
I realized this particular moment
was so much more than just dessert.
she babbled over the gosip.
citing what she thought was fair.
She mentioned people she knew and some
she didn't know. And emsized who didn't care
if they cared they'd be here helping wiff the pies
or they'd be offering up some cake. these people
are lacking common courtesy and
common sense she spoke for goodness sakes!
AH_OOH-AH_OOH
is a shortbread cookie dough baked
and then filled with a sweet meriquene
It's twice baked until golden brown
and filled with strawberries and whipped cream
and a sweet strawberry wine sauce.
the other pie she mentioned was a myth: a myth due
to the fact that it's hard to get the
right balance of chocolate and bourbon.
a mixed graham cracker and sweet doughy crust
with a cream cheese sweet potatoes filling
topped with mixture of heath bars and pecans
and bourbon: and marshmallows, in a brownie crumbly topping.
Entree included and not limited too.
A dish of roasted pork sliced and served with
mushrooms,olives,panchette,onions,
roasted red bell pepper garlic in a crisped
Duchess potatoes served with a light
sherry and pork gravy.
Oven roasted asparagus
and a Four Lettuce chicken salad with
Yogurt and Goat cheese
dressings with garlic croutons
and a choose of salad dressing.
And the perfect Yeast rolls and biscuits!
Something to inspire a competitive Food Championship

The bullying
In 1945, yes, I know it is; a long time ago
in fact, 80 years ago, a war had ended
and many children went to school without
breakfast that consisted of scones
with brown goat cheese and a small bottle
of milk, there was no restriction on how
many scones we could eat
a family didn't want their children eating
at the school, as they proudly pointed out
they could feed their own brood
the children were bullied because
their family was different from us
The whole working-class neighborhood
had gone communist at the time. it was
something about freedom and quality
no one had the right to dare to be different
The story of the adults, how rich
that family was endless, it should no one
should allowed; all we children know they
had a big garden with fruit trees, the first apple
I tasted was stolen in their garden that
according to my brother had an angry dog
Suddenly, no one was communist there
was work for all, although poorly paid
People's pride had returned; politically
this was now called a social- democracy
In oil-rich Norway, few remember the country
was saved by the Marshall plan
I wanna spread you thin,
creamy, on a bagel
toasted
fresh
hot
savor each bite
lick you off -
my fingers
the corner of my mouth…
I’ll leave a bit to make you laugh.
Save it for later
I’ll say it’s a snack
if I get hungry before I get back
I wanna sauté you in garlic
…with peppers - hot
salt..
cheese..
the flavor in oil
infuse with your leaves
over a salad.. inside a soup
tomatoes
red onions
brown rice.. a scoop
not to dilute
or over power
the taste of your skin
lightly
dusted in flour
sizzle and pop
drizzle a dop
I’d make you a doughnut
if I were a cop
or better yet
I think an éclair
cream in the middle
squeeze you right there
in a coffee cup
some on my chin
lick it off
…and squeeze you again
I wanna bake you in broth
400 degrees
wine
sauce
caper goat cheese
stuff you with seafood
potatoes
brie
serve you with scallops
fresh from the sea.
reduce you to thickened,
sauce made with cream
jiggle your gravy
poach you and steam
fry you in butter
sugar your spleen!
I’m stuffed...your love
feast for a king
Form:
On a blustery winter night my loved one comes to dine.
The table is set for two in front of a cheerful fire and
a candle flickers in delight beside one perfect yellow rose.
I greet my love with a kiss and a glass of Napa Ridge Sauvignon
Blanc. We sit for a while and enjoy fig and Humboldt Fog
goat cheese crostini, while we sip the sweet nectar of the grape.
Soon it is time for me to serve a salad of grilled romaine with bacon and
cherry tomato vinaigrette. We enjoy our quiet conversation while
listening to a compilation disc I made of some of his favorites…
Chopin piano sonatas, Billy Joel ‘s Uptown Girl, The Phantom Of The Opera
and a few selections from an old Beetles album.. Now the entre,
Lamb Chops with a garlic and mustard crust, haricort verts in browned
butter and potatoes gratin . With our entrée we splurge on a bottle
of Screaming Eagle Zinfindel..A bit later I bring out a huckleberry tart
with homemade vanilla bean ice cream.
It was an an evening of culinary delight, made truly special by being with
the one that keeps me safely in his heart.
