Life's Lessons

Life's lessons has taught me when and when not to speak,
It has also taught me that being silent doesn't make you weak.
Some things are better left unsaid,
Because at times it drags you behind instead of moving you ahead.
Just when you think things are at their best,
Life throws you a curve ball and yet here we go with another test.
Climbing a mountain trying to get to the top,
You realize you've hit a road block wondering if it's time to give up and stop.
You give it all you have by pushing forward with all your might,
Being the best person you can by doing what you think is right.
It's frustrating that life can be so cruel,
When all along you've played by the rules.
Treating others as you'd like to be treated,
But realizing that life's unfair so you take another beating.
Life's lessons are what make us the way we are,
But at times we are left with some pretty big scars.
That's what makes us stronger still looking for ways to be happy,
Even tho at times people can't seem to agree.
Doesn't mean that how you feel is wrong,
Just means that what you think and what you believe is very strong.
Life's lessons are there to guide us along our way leaving room for mistakes,
Because no one is perfect but we learn from them by separating what is real and what is fake.
No one said living was the easiest thing to do,
But you have to pull the strength from within to find out what is true.
Life's lessons teaches us what we are capable of withstanding,
And gives us time to find understanding.
There would be no compassion without suffering,
There would be no love without caring.
It's all about compromise and finding a mutual ground,
To make things simpler each time around.
Life's lessons has taught me that happiness is letting go of what you can't control,
And focusing on more positive things and making them a goal.
Listen to what is being said and fix any problems you may have,
Life's a lot better when you're not living it sad.
Life's lessons has taught me that communication is key,
Without it no relationship will ever succeed.
Life is what you make it,
You can choose to take it for granted or choose to live it.
Without life's lessons we wouldn't know what to change,
Nor would we realize what we've gained.

Holding My Tongue

Just the other day I felt our love astray
Holding my tongue gasping for air
Just the other evening we went out as a couple but yet I felt we were'nt hole
Holding my tongue so I would'nt spoil our time together
Just the other early morning when the sex had just begun it was weak and had
no force or vibe
Holding my tongue as I layed there wanting to cry
When I spoke to you your reply was a sigh and a simple sentence
Holding your tongue you need to learn and everything is alright
So tell me why you cheated and pushed me away making me question myself if
there shall be better days
Holding my tongue to not have pushed you another inch away
Do you think I'm a doll that you can take of the shelf and play with when you feel
the need
Holding my damn tongue with fierce
Listen hear you have a strong beautiful lady in your life that you need to
appreciate and show love and that respect
Holding my tongue that you ask of me
No man in their soung mind could treat me so
Holding my tongue with bitterness and a foul taste
Thinking what a damn disgrace and this man has me misplaced
Holding my tongue I am certainly not
After I am human and have so much too give
Holding my tongue won't make things better
After all we have been through that I shall not sit and stress myself
Hold your own damn tongue because to me this journey did'nt just begun
Take your dirtyness of a self twisted mind and stop and think I'm wiser and have
already read through the lines
Hold my tongue to the actions you've revealed that you think i'm blinded by your
cold deserted love
Look into yourself and hold your head down in shame because to me my love is
no game
Holding my tongue is not my style nor is the rules you have applied on our
relation
You need to recongnize a lady and treat me like a lady
Holding my tongue is'nt my character and i'm not perpetrating a fraud so don't
feel i'm going to live my life amongst being shady
Evaluation is not in the book of love nor is passing judgement the way you throw
it at me with that famous curve ball
"HOLD YOUR OWN DAMN TONGUE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Giving ‘it' a Chance

Life brings us something or someone new each day. It can be the person
behind the counter at the store, it can be the person who flashes you their pearls
for a second as you walk by, or it can be that perfect stranger who stands next to
you, with a large drink in their hand, as you vibe to the soothing melody of soulful
artists. It does not matter where, when, who, or how; ‘it’ just happens. What’s ‘it’
you may ask? It can be a new friendship; it can be a new person to care about; it
can be a person who makes you smile by just hearing their voice or seeing their
unique beauty; it can a new lover; and importantly, it can be, if you are ever lucky
enough, a real love so deep that your unconscious being takes the driver’s seat
from your sense of reality. After vowing never to let yourself get on that cloud and
fall, someone always appears to test that commitment. What can one say, life
acts in many comedic ways.

After coming from such a dark place of pain, neglect, anger, abuse, depression,
low self-esteem, and unsurity, how do you know when that person has arrived?
That person you say? Yes, that person who fits the pattern that faith and destiny
designed for you to share your most treasured moments with for as long as you
live. How do you open up your heart again to something that, by chance, may be
a beautiful creation or a tragic failure?
The risks you take for a chance at love are sometimes worth the patience and
trouble.

Infatuation and lust clouds your judgment and throws you a curve ball so hard it
fractures your body and your spirituality. If you are not careful, you may end up in
the beginning again. Where is the beginning? You know; the place of a thousand
heart attacks and heartaches, loneliness, and anger.

One thing that remains consistent in your beliefs and values is giving people the
benefit of the doubt and hoping that they do not disappoint you. What ever does
not kill you will only make you stronger and if you have being inflicted and
survived the bullet wounds then you have nothing to lose; time is on your
side.

The World According to Cat

I am a cat, at home I’m Ollie
But fellow cats know real name
“Intrepid Vic”, I dig that, golly
Grey tiger, finest at his game

I am the boss around here
Them humans lacking any wit
In house of mine they live, oh dear
We take up space in even split

They’re sort of fun to be around
I’m free to roam, eat and sleep
They give me hugs, but I may frown
No mucho fondling or I leap!

There’s plenty do around the castle
Lick milk, meow and preen myself
To tug on curtain’s bushy tassel
And jump to kitchens’ highest shelf

To scratch the pole, chase own tail
Lay on keyboard when daddy writes
And have a drink without fail
I love the dripping faucet pipes

This cat hates bathing with a passion
The tongue is all you need, capeeche?
A counter walk is still in fashion
As diet of livers and the fish

Be engine to the cat-drawn carriage
Kids want to have for their doll
I play good sport, so I can manage
Paw dinner meat and have a ball!

To walk around, rubbing lightly
Against the people and the turfs
Affection? Nay, we rather rightly
Stake claim to lands, you naive serfs

The backyard run is fun and game
Chase birds and squirrels sans result
Stop screaming your approval, dame
I brought you mouse, not insult!

The fight with neighbors’ cat is tricky
We hate each other, what a schmuck
And stray feline escapes the quickie
Love interest gone, I’m out of luck

Then watch TV about tabbies
High time to purr enjoying snack
Dive into fishbowl acting grabby
Ascend the tree for doggie pack

Kids drive me crazy with a laser
I drive them nuts by hiding mum
Love being family’s hell-raiser
At times I’m meek but never dumb

A blade of grass to treat a sickness
Do know exactly what I need
And have that fur to show for slickness
“Meow the kitties!” is my creed

To plan a day some quiet time
I need in total solitude
Slink into curve ball for bedtime
Wake humans early for my food

This life’s intense and full of peril
And so much fun, it’s cats’ delight
Plans for tomorrow? They are feral
I have to sleep on them tonight

A Baseball Player's Legacy

The players take the field
Pitchers and catchers warm up
Pre-game practice is underway
The coaches and umpires discuss the rules
The coaches shake hands and walk away;
The home-plate umpire yells "let's play ball"
The game is underway.

The pitcher takes the pitching mound
Kicking and digging his cleats into the ground
The catcher sits behind home-plate
That fast ball he anxiously awaits.
A few practice pitches back and forth
Just pitcher and catcher;
The team is ready despite the weather
It really doesn't matter,
The umpire calls for the first batter.

Up to the plate the batter steps
Into his batting stance he's set
The pitcher throws an energetic curve ball
The batter swings at the ball
He misses;
"Stike One" the umpire yells
Deeper the batter digs into the ground
The batter swings at the next ball that flies from the mound.

Crack!
The 80mph fast ball flies deep into center field
The outfielder runs to make the out
Fielding the ball;
The center fielder dives,
The batter is out.

The game is just about done
The home team is down by just one run
Desginated hitter steps up to bat
Putting on a helmet and removing his hat,
He steps up to the plate
Digging his cleats deep into the ground
Standing close to the plate.

Here comes the final pitch
A knuckle ball with a slight twist
Oh no, it's beginning to mist
The batter swings following through to the ball
The bases are loaded
The crowd is going wild
Contact, a high-fly ball;
It's going, going, gone
A grand slam!
The home team has won.

The teams line up
Sportsmen-like they shake hands
A job well done
Gatorade to re-quench their thirst
Our team has moved into first.
The coach says "Ok boys, take a knee",
"It's time to announce todays MVP".
To the batting cages we go
Even if our parents say "no"
The coach sits back and says "Let's go!"
This is the story of a baseball player's legacy.

The Southpaw

THE SOUTHPAW
By Roy Merritt

This kid has a helluva arm
The coach he told the scout
And if we could get him
to get it over the plate
He'd strike all the batters out
He can throw it really fast
Over a hundred and twenty per
You might not believe what I'm saying
But that's the truth dear sir
He doesn't have a curve ball
No slider or a change up
But if you're standing at the plate
You better be wearin' a cup
That's our biggest problem with him
This kid is really wild
And all those who have to face him
Turn into a little child
And if one comes whistlin' in
And goes anywhere near their head
They start swingin' at anything
Facin' him they dread
Now the scout he was a cynic
The story was always the same
We gotta a pitcher you should see
He'll make it to the Hall of Fame
And so the southpaw he took the mound
And started to loosen up a bit
And then he saw the batter in the box
And this kid was biting his lip
Why is that he wondered
Why does he look this way
Why is he hesitant to take his cuts
And put the ball in play
And then the scout he found out why
And came to believe what the coach had said
Cause the southpaw threw one wild and
By God knocked off his head
Yes indeed his head came off
Right there at the plate
I know it's hard to believe
But that's the truth for goodness sake
And so the ump he followed it
As it rolled all over the ground
The stadium stood deadly silent
You couldn't hear a sound
And finally at last the head stop rolling
And the ump picked it up you know
And so held it aloft
He really was a pro
He held it there eye to eye
Lookin' it square in the face
And shouted aloud “You been walked
Now batter take your base!”

Sometimes, it just takes some time

Sometimes,
we are born, with big dreams
Sometimes,
we are born having none
Sometimes,
we have to live, with our troubles
Sometimes,
we do things, that can’t be undone

Sometimes,
our hearts, may be broken
Sometimes,
we find true peace and love
Sometimes,
words are better left unspoken
Sometimes,
you leave when you’ve had enough

Chorus
Sometimes,
it just takes, some time
for all of your dreams to come true
Sometimes,
it just takes, some time
to find the perfect one, meant for you
Sometimes,
it just takes, some time
being apart ‘til the storm subsides
Sometimes,
it just takes, some time
a little patience, while the future unwinds

Sometimes,
the cards, we’ve been dealt with
don’t add up,
and are just not enough
Sometimes,
we’re anxious, and worry too much
Sometimes,
we’re blessed, with a tender touch

Sometimes,
the money comes too easy
Sometimes,
we may not have enough to eat
Sometimes,
life throws us a curve ball
Sometimes,
this life is bittersweet

Chorus
Sometimes,
it just takes, some time
for all of your dreams to come true
Sometimes,
it just takes, some time
to find the perfect one, meant for you
Sometimes,

House Wife

This is it, the final step before crossing the line and I’m not sure I want to stop. What happens when I cross the line, the end? The end of all he and I share but what do we share besides pain and arguments; we share absolutely nothing. Maybe we have a few moments in time that we both believe that we wouldn't go back and change anything and then reality hits, I love him but I can see it, it being all the arguments that are to come. He will grow to hate me for asking him to quit school and even though I never actually asked, we both know that’s what I wanted.
Honestly, I am not sure of what is better anymore, if we should just move on and act as if we never happened, waste our time we spent together and start a new; or simply push our regret and anger into the back of our minds until we blow up repeatedly acting as if it were just spit of insanity. I am nothing more than his wife, not bound by anything more than a small piece of paper and some empty words. I wouldn't blame him for hating me; I could hardly even be upset. Life has tossed up a curve ball and we drop it every time. Neither of us exactly sure of what the other wants, I understand in instances that the first year of marriage is supposedly the hardest, you push and pull and see how much you can get away with; but we just push and push each other away and get nothing out of it. Maybe it was never love after all maybe we both will just wake up and it will all just be a dream, and maybe I am just another house wife realizing my marriage isn't as good as I thought it would be.

CPR

Not again call the code
Again in life saving mode
Grab the patient from the dark abode
This is a burden and heavy load

My heart is hard and callous
Working for years in the medicine palace
No criticizing you’ve your own malice
You’re not ready to drink from my chalice

Get on the chest, push hard and fast
How much longer will this last
Push the epi again they’ve not passed
Someone do compressions I’m gassed

You feel a pulse? NO! begin CPR
Eyelids open, pupils dilated, bizarre!
Cracked ribs, circulate the drugs intravascular
Hang another liter to the 18g catheter

This isn’t good the lips are blue
Running the code we aren’t through
Good bag mask ventilation through the tube
The bowel evacuates diarrhea, pew.

Still no pulse felt at all
Continue CPR in for a long haul
Did we update family give them a call
They’re in for a huge curve ball

We got a rhythm that is shockable
Charging 360J, stand clear, loud and audible
Hope this works anything is possible
Feel a pulse? YES! Phenomenal

Post-resuscitative effort in full effect
Titrate the Dopa and Levo for affect
Secure the ETT make it perfect
Debrief the H’s and T’s lets inspect

Order chest x-ray and head CT
Get an ABG, H&H and blood chemistry
Start hypothermia and begin the freeze
Lets clean up the patient provide dignity

Another patient kept out of the grave
The team members supported and gave
Staving off death and being brave
That’s what we do, for the patients we save
