KITE 
stringed bird
paper art

my hued craft flew high
played hide and seek with clouds
the child in me remembers

“on soaring collage drifts a dream”

The man was
handsome, intelligent,
and good in bed.

But he just
had nothing
to say.

And all of his days
were the same.

Monochromatic
introspection followed
by a sort of smothered
self-expression.

He never
felt like himself.
And he always felt
worried about what
other people thought
about him.

Who even was
he?

His routine?
His career?
His interests?
His beliefs?

Beliefs?

The man had
no beliefs, the
man didn’t need
to believe.

For if he started believing
in something, he may have
actually needed
to

King Solomon and I will Fly a kite today

King Solomon and I will fly a kite 
On this historical Good Friday, 
we seek justice for the young lady
Her father made her act as if she were his niece. 
To deceive his new wife, so that she could live with them
His wife found out about the plot and hell would break loose.

Kite Flying

Now the winds are here 
I can fly my kite.
I'll sail it through the night 
to touch stars of the air. 
 
Above all, over fears
paper dreams shall sizzle in flight.

Skillful as I steer
Must avoid doubt, tall trees, streetlights ...

• Long strands of red flowing in the wind
• A tall figurine dressed in red and white
• He's out in the snow
• And what do you know!
• He came out here to fly his kite

Truth be told I’m afraid of your love
For you are deep as blue ocean 
As vast as night skies above
Your eyes like magical potions 
Chocolate pools waiting for my drool 
And I can drown in them as a fool

I guess I feel like a kite in a fight with wind
Being approached by your passion

If I Were

If I were a kente kite
I’d hang u by your toes
And we’d delight in flight
Of poetic purple prose

We would drop lines
So electric and so divine 
Emerald eclectic electric shine
Lighting up the darkest minds

If I were a holy book
I’d say all the right words
Anyone who takes a look
Would feel seen and heard

No need for virgin vanity

The Kite POTD

I must fly a kite
and lift it ever so high
And load all my cares on it.

The wind suddenly
Veers direction and down comes
My kite bringing back my cares.

Perfect day
Windy, warm
Families crowd onto the lawn
Above Fisherman's Beach

Prams, dogs, wheelchairs
Giggling youngsters
Parents saying, "Look up!"
Cameras capture glee

Big blue whale
Wafting
Above several sharks out of water
A scuba diver twirling below

Knots and nylon twine
Fluttering ribbons and tails
Happy kids everywhere
Mums, Dads holding tight
A plethora of little diamonds
Soaring
Brilliant colours glint in grey skies

A giant

HOW TO FLY A KITE

First you take the girl
up on the southern Downs -
on a day with light wind
and bright sunshine.

Then you unpack things
from your bulging back pack -
with emphasis on those
Picnic goodies.

Next you ask for help
stretching the fabric out
to fit the sticks inside -
looking in her eyes.

While she holds the tail
you touch her hand with yours
as you tie

THE PARENTHOOD KITE

Every now and then when I see someone flying a kite
made of paper, strings and wood…
I smile…remembering how flying a kite…is a lot like parenthood.

How you spend a lot of time running around
looking up…checking the sky…
trying to catch the wind…and help your children fly.

And how with each child you’re as proud as you were the
