for those in bondage
A vise
to break the chains
Its promise
burns the master
Whose riff
to light the flames
To dance
the steps of freedom

indentured rage
To heal

Blues Poem # 21
Fastidious to a fault
Precise to a point
My accountant thinks
he owns the joint
Yet he forgets, so easily
how he got his job
My customers pay his salary
though from them he’d steal and rob
In case the mirror’s not enough,
Reminders of my age
May crop up just to let me know
I’m at a certain stage.
A lack of energy, perhaps,
Or slackening of skills,
More visits to the doctor
And a daily dose of pills…
A host of ailments never known
When in my younger years
And slowing down in varied ways
By giving into fears…
A memory I can’t quite grasp,
A stupid slip and fall,
An item on the must-do list
I simply can’t recall…
The knowledge of the ones I’ve lost
Who’ve passed or slipped away,
The hours sometimes hard to fill
When weather woes hold sway.
I really could go on and on
But think I’ve made my point.
This isn’t how I always feel;
Today I’m out of joint.

I had heard of her of course
we all had
but we thought she was fictitious
when we saw the barkeep’s face we knew better
He is usually unflappable
tonight he could barely speak
she had taken his heart
and his tongue it seems
Should ye jail me whom people appoint,
Beware, that will be a ‘breaking point’,
Trump said in blatant threat
To a nation deemed great,
A case points to a buckling knee-joint.

Poet’s note: Donald Trump has warned that it could be a breaking point for his supporters if he is sentenced to prison following his recent criminal conviction. A not so indirect threat that tells a tale in a country which saw political violence after Trump’s defeat in last presidential election.
hearts beats rapid melts
like butter in an oven
bodies to close merge

temperature rise
energy coverings lights
muttering abase

softens beating hearts
joint together souls merging

El Capitan - you are a joint
Within the Sierra Nevadas
Of punctuated granite -
A sentinel of the ages.
Sylvestris partition -
Beam of silver - or steel -
Are you a step to heaven
Or a capstone for hell?
Stern expression of peace -
Keeper of fortitude -
Of what would you speak?
Would I even understand you?
Sucking smoke out of spliff so hard,
Then joint itself just had to burn out.
In joint veritas
They said
I’m so agreed
Because why not
I mean
The way
It sounds to me
Or maybe just
because I’m high

Hitting the hash mixed with cigarette.
Gotta make it last till weekend.
Her inhaler is not exorbitant
But should it count much that she's The Buoyant?
Why the breathless condition keep constant?
Black smoke from her kitchen Great Irritant!
Six in the morning the cursed urge itching
And Madam Irene must see her kitchen.
Helping her out was her nicest offer
But she had continued to 'Yes' defer.
With her husband she shall first confer,
As he has opinions he can proffer!
"Mama, you're damned down: That's the main point,
To now steer life's precious ship effort joint;
Miss Agnes: a cook for you we appoint;
For the job your pastor could her anoint."
She has been waiting for amount
To her survival paramount
“From my base to the next bikes I mount!
I should, therefore, a whole lot count!”
But Bad Economy is a point,
Big money collecting at gun point:
An Extorting Police at check point,
Perpetually there, self would appoint,
Much like some Pastors self with anoint;
The Thing spending at every beer joint.
Spouse Coleman had this mentioned to her,
On bikes against Cold a coat of fur:
Britain’s Winter’s about eighty ponds
Russia’s Siberia’s a price that pounds…
“And so Life to Christ The Real Amount
One needs for one’s ascent of a mount!”
It’s Purim and St. Patrick’s Day
And if you’re up for noshin’,
Have corned beef, cabbage and dessert –
Some bright green hamantaschen.
For those of you who do not know,
This pastry, always eaten
By Jews on Purim represents
The man who had them beaten.
His name was Haman and when he
Was finally defeated,
The bakers made a special treat,
Fruit-filled or poppy-seeded.
These sweets are shaped like Haman’s hat,
3-sided (and delicious!)
But since today’s St. Patrick’s Day,
It would be most judicious…
To make them green to honor both
The Irish and the Jews
And washed down with a Guinness,
I’d give 5-star-plus reviews!
