Big Sandy: Recollection in the Free State
The hollow remains unphotographed.
Memory, not landscape, frames it—
a road cleaving winter in two,
children laughing while gravity
negotiated its own terms.
Neighbors spoke without flourish.
Their kindness was practical,
never advertised, always assumed.
You could leave your grief
on the porch overnight;
someone would tuck it in
and leave bread beside it
by morning.
Coal knew every surname
but never asked for praise.
It shaped the valley,
not into

A Version of Me
There is no strength in fear and flame,
naught but the bitterness of blame,
which leads us all to guilt and shame,
finger pointing and naming names.
Better still our hearts to open,
forgive and live with hope and
honest emotion,
a chain of grace unbroken,
positive words to be spoken,
and put our heart into motion.
Easier though to give anger it’s head,
to wish

The Birdman of Alesund
The birds of Alesund descend
To greet an old and trusted friend,
An answer to their constant search,
For food, safety and a welcoming perch,
The birds of Alesund descend
To greet an old and trusted friend.

A Call
Attending school was never an option when the empty drum echoes the song of yearning grains, trekking the lanes with bathroom slippers that awaits a welcoming party in the municipal waste truck while idanuwa na zubar da kwalla.
Bafflement grips me when some sit in their Sunday best with glossy heels kicking a storm for not

Christmas Kind Of Love
When the warm nutmeg spirit of generosity
moves you year round,
a Mrs. Claus heart fills your smile.
It's a Christmas kind of love on
any given day,
it has you singing, "Joy to the World,"
with your Yuletide soul soaring
pool side in the middle of July.
It's a Christmas kind of love
throughout your life. ~

I Am Thankful For
the stars, who remember my wishes
the hearts who’ve quieted my tears
the seas, all their imaginative fishes
the souls who’ve silenced my fears
the wonders of a God who knows my heart
the assurance of everlasting life
the family and friends who won’t depart
the peace that calms all my strife
the music that abides after the fallen snow
the generosity of His

An Act Of Generosity
A sincere act of generosity:
No media mileage
No publicity
If your right hand
Would dole out
Something for the needy
Let not your left hand
Know it.

Dayshine - 2020
Light switched on our world
bringing both energy and vision,
igniting rich colors with great variation.
It flowed from the sun, that star that rose
each day to give with ever onward generosity.
I loved the dayshine.
I loved the brightness and the warmth
in the long summer days.
I loved the way it made the world shine so freshly
in the snow-bequeathed days

EARTH'S GENEROSITY
May we be blessed to understand something that’s easy to see
It’s about our Mother Earth and her unselfish generosity…
How every day in every moment she’s always offering us more…
Like on any walk in nature…
each time we look around
She shows us a view that is a little different than the one a moment before.
