How pretty
is the motor city
under neon diodes?

I sent my heart
into its stars
exhaled my soul
into rustbelt smoke

maybe I’ve lost my mind
or rather it’s left behind
my sanity abandoned
and blighted

my memories subjected
to successive evictions
—just f***ing forget ‘em—

I guess the city could
enlighten me a bit
on resilience

Whatever entity or God we pray to
whatever is our spiritual perception
May that entity or God teach us to love the entire world

We went to our Ava, our granddaughter’s, soccer game the other night
and once again I was shown
how everybody…every family…has a story of their own.

We saw some familiar faces (as at Ava’s soccer games we always do),
people who’s stories we’re familiar with…because we’re in a chapter or two.

I inherited the earth on a Monday
By Tuesday evening I had fixed it
So everyone knew how to speak a common language
Everyone was talking to their neighbors.
A great start I thought.

By Wednesday I had installed empathy and kindness
In all of the adults; I did not have to revamp the children or dogs.
