Escapists Poems | Examples

Premium Member Ambedo trance

here we go again
conjuring fear demons
from which to seek reprieve
we then manifest gods and angels
assigning imaginary attributes
to the opposing polarities
in this lucid dream

as escapists
immersed in trance
addiction now our affliction
we wallow in the shallows of desire
mirrored by fears we hold dear
remaining thus in captivity
from birth till death

Premium Member One Tiny Red Balloon

Over by the corner the bandstand plays on
next to the cotton candy wagon and the clown
Its a circus act full of people and acrobats
and tallish men on walking wooden stilts

One tiny red balloon dots the sky as I espy
juggling acts leading to the garden path
it ain't over until the fat lady sings
so I better not dally, I need a glass ring

Fire eaters and sweet ladies that stretch
ventriloquists with two sided mouths
magicians that stage with props, and coins
cats on tight ropes, hawkers and escapists

Silver hoops and fast delivery guys
life is changing right before our very eyes
Give me the candy but don't tell me lies
of course I want the red balloon, untie!

A Day To Forget

A day to forget

It was a rotten day from the start, got up late
feeling as if he had not slept at all and the night had been dreamless
all his phobias leak into his dream, making the day
easier to endure.no point turning on the TV, same old stuff wars
It is easy to stop a war but near impossible to stop
and this war is a conflict about values.
He made a coffee but had no milk, and the toaster didn’t function
ate a banana instead; versatile fruit easy to eat
and not as fattening as slimming prophets say.
They were having lunch at a Scandinavian club it was dark
looked like a den for unhappy escapists, angry people talking
critically about the country they had chosen to live in.
They ate stew at a local café, and a fly landed on his wife’s food
she is a hypochondriac who claimed she had been poisoned
hauled her into the car, which had a parking sticker.
When she felt better after her brush with calamity, he drove
her to a nail bar, while waiting he played the radio
When he started the car, the battery was flat.

Escape Into Reality

ESCAPE INTO REALITY

Escapists---fantasizing about worthless things
Well trained in our worldly ways and feelings
Struggling to visualize our predestined callings
Escapists—fantasizing about worthless things

Reality-- disregarding Eternal majestic dwellings
Pursuing false perspectives and earthly inklings
Mistaking Believers as fake brainwashed beings
Reality—disregarding Eternal majestic dwellings

Church Camp: Part Ii

inevitably, one night a few of the forced occupants decided that they had had enough &
took it upon themselves to try & leave the church camp---
they made their way out of their dorms & down the dirt road,
only to remember then
(as even they whose minds were the least warped by this whole exercise in futility,
had forgotten exactly where it was that they’d been taken)
that the road to the church camp led to a major highway
of which not even a cricket did frequent &
the though of hitchhiking or
just strolling on home
was ludicrous at best.

frustrated, they made their way back to the camp &
when they got onto the grounds,
floodlights illuminated their path
as if coming from some ship seeking Mulder on the X-Files,
zooming down to intimidate &
in the morning,
when they were all sitting at the cafeteria tables,
a minister sitting at the head of the table of which the few failed escapists sat,
turned their head casually & said
“we know you tried to leave last night…don’t do it again.”

The night has bobbed away….the stereo blasting
Through the moon roof as the highway markers
Roared by….the night has bobbed away….like
Sinatra’s undercover meetings with the makers
….nobody heard us running as far and as fast
As we could, following the zephyr in the night
Sky….Orion’s Belt, leading us towards the
“daybreakers” waiting for us on the other side
…..the night has bobbed away….trains bearing
Down on us like incantations, squeezing our
Thoughts…..me, dewey and grin….always on
The run, convinced of our capture, but positive
About our escape….just 3-more miles to go
….lights up ahead….on que, dewey goes right,
I go left, and grin, he stays with the ride
….grin, he always stays with the ride

Grins the man…..
