There was a man played the trombone

Who dreamed of a grand sousaphone

Tho' his weak embouchure

Made his low notes impure

His blowing sucked more than his tone.

There’s nothing finer, in a sense,
Than certain words in present tense.
Words which are incredibly,
Etched on your mind indelibly.

Immaculate, petulant, magnificent, sinew,
Incredulous, superfluous, to name just but a few.
Sacrament, procrastinate, intestate - may seem,
Draconian, Dickensian, obsolete, obscene.

Gratuity, embouchure, gnaw with silent 'g',
Juggernaut, cantankerous, words which I must decree,
Are remarkably, stupendously, fantastically sublime,
And should be used magnanimously, each and every time.

Biblical, whimsical, statistician, brie,
Words which are surprisingly, absolutely free.
Insatiable, perpetuate, onomatopoeia,
Existential, exemplary, words you shouldn’t fear.

Exponential, candid, xylophone or muse,
Malign versus benign - never to confuse.
Reptilian, gazillion, fragility, beguile,
Elucidate, excruciate, go the extra mile.

Psychopath, pedestrian, sesquipedalian,
(That last word I must admit is somewhat alien),
But never doubt, you have some clout, with words that randomly,
Demonstrate, accentuate a sense of liberty.

Sometimes he has to give himself a hit of nitrous
oxide, when the most exciting thing in his
day is when a second set of incisors
appears behind the first set,
but then he can only refer
the patient's parents to
the orthodontist, who
makes real money,
although the
referral fee
helps.

Still he can’t help wondering if
implants could have helped
Chet Baker’s embouchure.

God Plays Jazz

Through embouchure practiced in timeless jam blowing reeds of turning wheat, bellowing fingers, smokey streets. The timbre of darkness soloing for morning through laughing streams of willow like Mr. Parker flying.Turnaround souls bargain with triplets, as trees shout call and response, two then five down the street to one until the the clouds are gone. Midnight serves up shivering blues, last call rhythm time bell tolls,as silver rivers bend and pull, mountains sing valleys roll, the U-shaped bow a canyon pass the holy bell testifies at last, from fields of cotton to night club church, the one who was last has now become first, every perfect tone easy on its own joins melodic cast, too bad pennyless drifter 'cause you're deaf to the night you'll never hear... God play Jazz.

Lost and Found

Dusk,
Say goodbye to the place you love
Shadows intrepid,
A shallow
Grave of desire
A wooded embouchure, a tightening grip
A melody,
Resounded, it's reverberation rejected
Of sounds,
Echoing,
Through your negotiations
A breeze, through the laughing bluebells of spring
Extracting the numbness of vanity fiends
Yellow indoctrination of the
Daffodils sway
Suggestive and playful.
You penetrate realisation,
Knowing you can never return
By chance,
You may find yourself again!
