Downswing Poems | Examples

Premium Member Rock-A-Bye Money

Rock-a-Bye money- dream you're on top-
please stay asleep till our worries stop.
Nest eggs are dwindling- balances fall;
lowering checking, savings, and all.

Rock-a-Bye money- values downswing;
much more is needed, we sadly sing.
Flying too fast from each saved-up nest;
try to sleep long and take a good rest.

Rock-a-Bye money, please don't you see
you're the support for all and for me.
Crisp dollar bills, coins shiny and bright-
please stay asleep to stop taking flight.

Rock-a-Bye money,  pray you're not trash;
please close your eyes to this market crash.
If the banks fail, all cradles will fall;
down we'll all come- you, me, one and all.

upswing and downswing,
both the zing and sting,
a beauteous dance,
viewed in nonchalance.

there then’s no purpose
of earth life circus,
for souls who are still,
aligned with God’s will.

It’s snowing hard today
winter won't go away,
on a slushy roadway
there’s no upswing.

The snow builds up slowly
smothering roads wholly
And I’m feeling lowly,
nature's plaything.

Not a flower around
though snowdrops should abound,
their appearance renowned
as a wellspring.

The birds have no comeback
from winter’s late attack,
frozen ground is a setback
feeding offspring.

It is hard to ignore
icebergs floating offshore,
spring seems more a folklore
on the downswing.

Premium Member Extra Zing

Yesterday, on the first warm day of Spring,
I heard a robin redbreast sweetly sing.
And it was a melody on the wing,
a beautiful, magical sort of thing.

Although Winter's hold continues to cling,
its effects are slowly on the downswing.
And I know that April showers will bring
magnificent flowers fit for a king.

It's time to move on; Winter's had Her fling,
the weather's not Her exclusive plaything.
And She is but one of Nature's offspring,
a bland duvet in need of coloring.

On Spring's arrival, She'll change everything,
putting you in the mood for anything.
And while disarming Winter of Her sting,
Spring imbues your soul with that extra zing.

Premium Member A House of Mirrors

Living in a time of diminished dreams,
we're no longer encouraged to think big.
Conformity is all the rage, it seems,
and cops have attained the status of pig.

Few folks care if the elections are fair,
so, democracy is on a downswing.
And an honest politician is rare,
integrity and vows don't mean a thing.

Alternative facts mock reality,
obscuring truths behind a veil of lies.
And the populace can't seem to agree
on what is causing the country's demise.

Like docile sheep, we are led by shearers,
escorting us through a house of mirrors.

Premium Member In the Mood For Love Again

Impulsive were the days of youth,
Nattered all through busy evenings,

Thrived to exaltation, absolutely naive,
Harmonious cheerful charm is now a history,
Extravagant fancy now a great mystery,

Modesty with age took a sharp turn,
Obsession faded, as if never will return,
Over the years gone far more sluggish,
Downswing, could it perpetually stay ?

Forgives itself nothing always is youth,
Overwhelmingly pardoned everything is age,
Retread reminiscence !

Longevity of lust with a vengeance ,
Overbold, badly in need of discipline,
Vacuity sobbed and bawled like sick,
Ebullience soon awakens endurance !

And vigour turns vernal as much again,
Golden moments regain their lost sheen,
Apart from heartbeats' rhyme, souls in unison,
Immaculate passion returns with full punch,
No worries of life, ecstasy takes a hunch !

The Promise of a Yellow Brick Road

Waiting for me
You always said
Was a Yellow Brick Road
But mingled in was the one made of red
And I think I took that one instead

You said there was a man
Who could help with everything
But if he was so perfect
Why didn’t he fix anything
When my life was in a spiraling downswing

I don’t believe in fairytales anymore
But I can still recount this one perfectly
And I can still remember your voice
As you promised these things carelessly
And gave me false hope for normalcy
