Carolyn Lee, a quirky artist, befriended me
She did everything with a bucket of glee
Best of all, her friendship was free
I learned a lot from Carolyn Lee.
She played art well, with a tee hee hee
Always laughing and beautifully
Other people’s criticism she did not hear or see
She was super confident, Carolyn Lee.
Why don’t you come paint with me?
She asked me with her usual kind of glee.
I wanted to, and the paint was free.
But I was intimidated by Carolyn Lee.
Carolyn is a fabric artist, she has a rare gift
I watched her work, her fingers are swift
She was making a wild flower the other day
Colorful and pretty, it blew me away!
The patterns were beautiful, her machine was a buzz’n.
I am glad to let you know that she is my first cousin.
She has a blog with followers from all over the world too.
Her gorgeous art will lift you right out of the blue.
The wildflower is finished now, she is working on a dog.
She has made a raven, two cats, a pelican and a hog.
Her ideas are plentiful, her gift is amazing for sure.
I watch her working in cottons, linens and fur.
To say my twin sister Carolyn is lucky is an understatement.
She had a broken C-2 that had to be fixed.
Dr. Kawakaki from Iowa City put rods in her neck.
She had a physical occupational appointment yesterday.
Doctor read fifty-two pages on her before she arrived.
Doctor said “I know this might be morbid, but I have to tell you…
The only people I have met with a broken C-2 were either
On a ventilator, paralyzed, or dead.”
My sister was astounded.
She is walking, driving, making a quilt, and hosting Christmas.
The doctor asked “How long were you in the hospital?”
My sister was in recovery at 9:30 p.m. on a Wednesday.
She was in the car ready to go home by noon on Thursday.
My sister said “I am glad I had such a great surgeon.”
I said “And tens of thousands of people were praying for you too."
Recipice Precipice
Carolyn Child would be
Mortified watching me
Cooking with joy and glee
Random ingredients
Thrown in a pot!
Hardly comestible
Near-indigestible
Never repeatable
Undefatigable
Principal requisite
Just make it hot!

Not a pure double dactyl, but in the spirit of one…
Julia Carolyn Child is the person, I pronounce Ju-li-a,
but the syllable counter pronounces Jul-ya,
so I went with her middle name.
"Nothing to Fear"
"We never know when death will come,
so I cast my worries aside.
When I first heard the news,
my heart went numb,
and then the diagnosis I denied.
Finally acceptance came as I cried.
Sands are pouring through the hourglass,
but faith now saves me from fear.
The beauty of heaven waits and I have a pass.
At God’s plan, I will not sneer
as I prepare to approach a blessed frontier."

This poem of Carolyn Devonshire exposes her faith, exclaims her trust in God, and expresses her perspective of death --- that it is not to be feared. I am personally blessed by this muse since it exhorts me to view death in a biblical way. According to 2Corinthians 5:8, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” Likewise, this reverberates her comments to my poems, which I treasure as a Christian writer in being “vocal” about my spiritual beliefs.

Horses and nature I have always reveled in;
when I read “Midnights Miracle”, I remember
feeling so sad in the beginning that this horse
could not be found. I was certain that it was
gone forever, never to return.
I read on feeling for the owners of this beautiful
black horse. Elation set in, when I read that she’d
had her foal. She was looking for a place to have it
safely and found one. Mom and baby were clearly safe;
what a happy moment when she was found.
Carolyn had written on many subjects here at AP
and she’s always been generous with comments and kind.
A very talented poet and a wonderful individual, cordial and loving.
I was so sad to hear about her passing, but I
know that she’s in a better place. Her poetry
will live on in our hearts and I know she will
in her new life. May she soar to lovely heights
of heaven.

A Tribute To Carolyn
Hop scotch, skip a rope
Swings and slides she pass upon
A few bouncing balls here
A few there
Her field of dreams
Longed with poetry
From a page to a book
From words to a poem
The first ink lit her house
From top to bottom
From room to room
Her upstairs being her crux
So star bright, shiny and humble it was
In her garden there's budding roses
Just yearning to be
Those blossoms grew for all to see
Those twinkles in her eyes remain with me
We look back at Carolyn's life
With a tear, but a happy tear
For she had a very productive career
In closing she was a lioness at heart
So filled with joy, roam and pride
She looked after her PS family
And touched each, and everyone of them

she had a gift, a gleam
her poetry that scanned like autobiography
measured verses that re-made her life
reborn
in experiences with a fuchsia sheen
a lamp that sometimes shifted in its blue light
sometimes to quilted hues
her day to day hopes of recovery
when survival was everything
a wish, communal, that everything would turn out alright
but something cellular, inside, worked against her
sometimes death evades comprehension
we can't interrogate it
but the camera swings away till it finds her words
that are a testimony of someone
shimmering
a poet who flourished in our world
because of what we all share
a life that's not small
it lingers
in words
that matter, that stand
and bring you to a standstill

Our Carolyn has now gone to her rest
At limericks she was one of the best
Full of humour and wit
Bawdy, well just a bit
And found time to host many a contest...
I know Carolyn loved humour and it shone through in the limericks she wrote.

I think about you as I cry,
and wonder why you had to die,
for there's a void now in my life,
that emptiness cuts like a knife.
I miss the way we used to chat
and laugh, and feel sincerely that
I'll miss you till the day I die.
I think about you as I cry...

A wonderful poet
You loved the ocean
You knew how to show it
Wrote with emotion
Remembered, you will be
Though now, we must part
Loved for eternity
Coz of your penned art
You have been a good friend
Generous and kind
These memories won't end
For you're a gem find

Cherished friend to many
Adored being on the ocean and fishing
Really loved collecting gemstone jewelry
Often giving pieces as prizes in her contests
Limericks and witty poems were her forte
Your jewelry gifts I will always treasure
Never will be forgotten on Poetry Soup

A beautiful flower swaying in the breeze
Smiling beneath azure skies
Her warmth came with such ease
A gentle soul, a ray of light
Carolyn always had a kind word to say
To brighten someone's day
Got her wings and now she soars
Her poems live on for all to adore
She's found peace on heaven's shore

"Many of mankind's best souls are leaving us now,
climbing a trellis of morning glories
to their promised reward."
From the poem, "In The Glory Of Morning", Written by" Carolyn Devonshire
I've not, in truth, knowing the late Ms. Carolyn,
It might be owing I am quite late to come in;
It's when I know about her from you, dear masters,
And learn you've found in her love's true lasting treasures;
Wildfire of adore, I feel, burning in! Spreading!
As the feelings underwent by, you, tears-shedding!
=====
===
Understand, please, my forms are betraying me here,
I've forgotten all styles taught by you to endear!
See how the very thought of death makes me forget,
Each feeling I've been treasuring in my sachet!
=====
===
Sentiments that you've been sharing of her sweetly,
Indeed, you've been loving her forever fondly!
It's this makes my mad mind to tell you so sternly,
Death has succeeded in making you feel lowly!
=====
===
Carolyn is not dead! She's caravanning! Feel!
She's researching on grave and coffin, with great zeal!
When she's out, kindly, convey my wishes to her!
Ask her to compose me, rhyme on her study rare!

Many blogs
many poems in her tribute
comments like I am devastated,
will miss her greatly,
was more than a loss for me,
umpteen comments on her blogs and poems
Many are born and die.
Nobody bothers.
Many poets join Soup and leave
No one talks about them or ask about their well-being.
But some are remembered till our last breath.
Among those who are heartbroken, how many met her?
How many lived with her? Yet they miss her
Therein lies the greatness of her personality.
It is easy to be ordinary, selfish human.
We should be extraordinaries like her.
Leave our footprints behind in a positive way.
We should be remembered for our good deeds.
Carolyn Devonshire is an inspiration to me.
