Notes About The Poem

1.  This is an entry in the "Tribute - To A PoetrySoup Poet Who Has Passed or A Missing Poet Poetry Contest" sponsored by Constance La France.

2.  Carolyn Devonshire was the author of the 2009 novel, Colonizing Atlantis, the New Earth, as well as the 2009 poetry book, Visions of Devonshire. (She also endorsed my first poetry book on its back cover.) 

3.  Carolyn often awarded physical prizes, such as jewelry, for winners of her contests, in addition to the usual win, place, show, etc., placements/rankings (or “glory”).

Tribute To Carolyn Devonshire

Caring woman, poetess, author, friend;
Always there with kindness until the end. 
Resident first-rate of the Sunshine State  
Ocean knowledge and love – part of your fate.
Lovely poems, contests brightened our days; 
Your novel also enlightened our ways.
Now your legacy has captured our gaze.

Deep water boating and fishing your realm,
Each passenger safe with you at the helm.
Visions of Devonshire - poems galore, 
On friends, nature, animals, war, and more!
Not one to shrink from helping those in need;
Saw contests on ‘Soup’ as a way to lead.
Heavy at times were the burdens you faced;
Inspiring poets with pieces you graced.
Rare, loving person whose years were too few;
Each day, dear sweet Carolyn – we miss you!

The rainbow after a storm symbolizes the struggles she faced (and we all face) and have to get through; obviously, Carolyn on her boat fishing; the lighthouse as a beacon and comfort to others (as Carolyn surely was); and the sun's rays through the clouds represents a heavenly (where I hope and think Carolyn is now) image. Yes, Carolyn would gift me with rings and other jewelry because she had tons of it in her house and was so generous to her friends. I miss her.
