I'Ll Trade You Pain For Smoke

Born stressed here,
Peer pressure, pain, and no rest till next year,
Blowing the smoke in my lungs that my chest fear,
It's a mind thing; the pleasure is a treasure for the brain,
Followers mouth left dryer than the dessert after puffing the toxic fame,
Let me pronounce this man,
I think he need counseling; probably by next week he'll smoke a ounce again,
Living the street life,
Higher than the street lights,
Wondering, "what would a life without pain be like",
Using struggles for excuses; giving the body bruises until it's useless,
Some of the smoke that exist kill; some of the smoke that exist heals cancer,
Tell me what the truth is, he said, "I'll trade you pain for smoke", "I said deuces"!

No Smoking Day

Smoking at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust
By Stanley Russell Harris
The new mad author
& A Poetry Soup honourable mentioned poet

Once I smoked like a trooper. As that’s what I did be.
Now I do not smoke. As now I’m out of the Army.

Of course, life has its problems. And I often get upset.
But I don’t need the comfort. Of a cancer packed cigarette.

Although I did stop smoking! Over thirty years ago.
When I was aged sixty-eight! Cancer in me did show.

Yesterday was my fifth CT scan. Tomorrow I see those in oncology.
Where I hope if they can, they will say, ‘your cancer has gone Stan.’

Was my cancer caused through smoking? Honestly I do not know!
That news really scared me to death.
So if a smoker and you want to pack it up.
Do so, and I wish you all the best of luck.

The above poem was inspired by today Wednesday 8th March 2017 being no smoking day. Plus of course Ipswich Hospital NHS trust are bringing in a ban of smoking on their premise

Cancer

Hold back the hour.
Stop the tears from flowing.
Breathe again untainted air.
Take back my bones, my breasts,
and race forward to passion once more

Hold back the hour,
before the ravaging of every sinew
and fleeting glimpse of salvation, and
forced pity encroached upon my earth

Hold back the hour,
before tested strength
proves weakened failure
and commitment runs a ragged road

Before privacy alludes
and birds no longer sing for me,
or the pinch of reality is drugged
away before the fluttering of breath

Now bring back the hour
let the tears flow
I’m ready

A Million Shards Be, Broken Glass

Nineteen years of age, lost amid drugs ? Going nowhere except towards an asylum...
Soon his beautiful child, torn to be tattered ? Like time ripped apart; such abandonment
As downcast eyes left emptied by a world, this place, bent upon sorrows; thus rent these walls
Their rogues' gallery her Requiem ? Ghost in a machine, pulling thornes from our eyes; tapeworms
Parasites be this bubonic plague; his parody betwixt burlesque as goblins; hallucinating, of grovel ? Screaming.

Cancer Hope

Her curly hair was long and bright
Until that sad and scary night
The cancer took it all away
Leaving her sick night and day
Doctors, IV’s, get well drugs
Kisses, wishes and tight hugs
Are taking over her life now
Wishing that one day somehow
Her life will be normal again
Going out with all her friends
Having fun, not being sick
Searching for a secret trick
That cures every boy and girl
Ending pain across the world
Caused by all this bad disease
She prays can someone help us please

DRUGS HAD ME

The Drug of Jealousy

Jealousy could be as harmful as a drug...
It chases away all that's close without a hug...

It's an addiction that tears apart all that's good...
A self inflicted wound that spreads like only cancer could...

When life is going well those feelings rain in like a storm...
And it's easier to to get washed away then stand tall in form...

Trust and love are words thrown around like chips on a table...
But to live them and really feel them, only a strong person is able...

This is dedicated to my past where I climbed up from at last...
If this mirrors your ways then read and learn, you touch the
jealousy flame you will get burned...

Unspoken Words of Life

phases pass the day when i was young
i was happy and hate was a feeling unborn
colors where just colors
fight where with pillows
people had cuddies
drugs were things to stay health
cigs were candy sticcs
problems were with parent
death was playin dead
life was full of joy
as i grow older the hate ignites
colors are your gang claim
fight are with guns and knifes
people have stds
drugs are things that get you wealth
cigs are cancer sticcs
problems are with the police
death is ur homie getting killed
life is full of pain

A Cry For Help

There's a man I saw just the other day
However I don't know his name
He was of Hispanic decent I know
But we never spoke just the same.
He was talking to his lawyer
That day about his court case
I felt his pain and anguish
As I looked him in his face.
I could tell he was sorry for what he did
Because even the strongest can become meek
He looked like the drugs he did had done him in
Like cancer to a person so frail and weak.
Prison life doesn't do anything for him
And he doesn't want to do drugs anymore
He wants to move from the city to start over again
I really hope he gets what he asks for.
His lawyer said he'd do what he could
To answer his client's request
I wanted to shake his hand as my heart
Went out to wish him all the best.
I don't know what held me back
From saying how I felt
I guess I just chose to remain silent
Because I really didn't know how to help.
So where ever you are, my brother
I hear you; I hear you loud and clear
If there were ever a way I could help you
It would be to first lend a listening ear.

Cannabis Connoisseur

Medical Marijuana

Magical Herb, given to this world
can cure so many things, you’d
never believe it would

from helping a cancer patient
from starving
the positive results from it
are alarming

it gives people
a chance
to alleviate the pain,
stomach aches
even a granny’s arthritis
why would anyone want to
fight this

this beautiful idea of
medical marijuana
limiting the lords
use for it, is intruding on
an individuals
freedom

Cannabis Connoisseurs
can help treat their
ADHD, sleep apnea
and tourette's syndrome
to be against
medical marijuana use
you would have
to be dumb

To claim
the legalization of such
wisdom weed
would lead
to it being
abused, turned into a gateway drug
is lying
it is all upon the decision
of the individual
the people they surround themselves
with, and what THEY are supplying

God says in Genesis 1:12
that he has given his people hemp
and to use it at our free will
and if you do a little bit of research
you too will know the
deal

Locked Away and Never Sentenced-

As I peer down from this concrete tower and

out onto this city I call home... With its

concrete sidewalks and the people who seem

to stare endlessly into an empty abyss. As

they each clamor to gain a foot hole in

this never ending ascend climb to the top of a

mountain that never seems to end. This

concrete slab were I reside, which has

become my prison from within, a jailhouse

sentence by my neighbor who only aspire to

become a drug dealer or smoke some weed... Truly

they have become the cancer to those trying

to survive from day to day in this concrete

place we all call home. Eating away at their souls

and the very fiber of life…Here in the very

bowls on her belly I have immersed myself

into a fictitious existence in an attempt to

dilute my mind of any awareness of my

current condition and the fact that I sit inside

my own home, were I have become the

prisoner. This place I call home, has now become

my jail cell without even being sentence.

Physical Features

Why do you judge others by features
you can only see
Everyone is different
That's the way we are suppose to be

If you think I have wrinkles now
Just wait till I get old
Beauty is all your looking for
I am not a timeless mold

I'll need dentures
With the rest of the female bloodline
But I know what I'm made of
My heart is all mine

I stand tall
A simple 5'8"
One hundred and twenty six pounds
Is perfect weight

I have golden red hair
I thank my mother for
I look pretty good for forty
You insult me no more

I am a cancer survivor
Been on more drugs than you can count
I have a will to live
Hatred never mounts

When you see
Who I am, not what I was
You will be the one crying
Just because...
