THIS QUILT
This quilt a kaleidoscope of
corduroy colours
a struggle to even
out lucid lovers
cotton wool lies in
bumpity flats
I unravel thread
just like that cat !
Stitches are too loose or tight
corners say alright, so blight
while mantras race in light
“THE GRACE OF
IMPERFECTION TIGHT ” !
So like my country of carnivals
which takes too long in its winter
silent squares want to sing
songs of black swans to bring
Quilt quiet queenly comely !
Can I commence a new project ?
another challenging
lesson to learn
fingers ache sore
sessions to earn
this quilt into deep
sheep sleep
forlorn, forlorn
I dream of yellow
corn !

Aqua blue sled
Thumpity thump thump thump
Children laugh with glee
Thank heavens for air conditioning
Bumpity bump bump bump
Wheeeee!
Mom mirrors masterpiece The Scream
Declares, “This shall not be forgotten!”
Dad pleads his case,
“But, I put a mattress on the bottom.”

Have you hugged a llama today
Or a bunny or a kangaroo
You'll feel all squiggly and giggly inside
And a bit rumpity bumpity too
Not only will you feel all squiggly inside
But these guys will be wearing a grin
They sure like receiving those huggeroonies
You'll notice their tails start to spin
So if you spy a sad looking teddy
Or a kitten with eyes full of tears
Tell them you love 'em and hold 'em tight
You'll chase away all of their fears
Tonight when mommy tucks you in
And gives you a big snuffily kiss
Remember the lonely animals out there
Blow them a kiss and don't miss
There's a moral here, haven't found it yet
Maybe it's hiding under a chair
Hugging llamas and other poor creatures
Really tells them you care

The toddler turns his face and grins
Bouncing along with a bumpity bump bump
The rest of the room stops to watch
Everyone feeling uplifted and happy
He is lying on his mommy now,
Flat out, with arms around her
Snuggling into her neck
We feel his warmth across the room
All we need now is a puppy someone says
One comes running, demanding to be petted.
It is a golden retriever, showing us that life is good
Reminding us that it is the small things that matter
We leave the party feeling lighter and younger.
Best party in a long time, my partner says.
I concur, smiling as I think of the toddler and the puppy.
Life is terrific. The key is to look for its greatness.

Up, up, arduous hills
Coasting down, feeling the thrills
Through the forest and back to asphalt
Navigating this earthly plane that god wrought
Boldy bending curves
Keeping it steady, no swerves
Coasting the electric light highways
Meticulously plodding the murky byways
Hanging on meandering roads
Just riding and shaking the load
Oh, rocky roads go bumpity bump
Holding fast through the thumps
Swampy lands, please travel too
Be it night or day, see yourself come through
Don't hide it
Just ride it
Ride freely
Enjoy abundantly
Slowly in and through the rain, ride
The benevolent sun is shining on the otherside

The child is a poet with innocent eyes
And a bumpity A-B-C rhyme,
A dancer whose feet with the rhythm of life
Move in jubilant one-two-three time.
The child is a doctor who heals with a kiss
And treats with a serum called smile,
A researcher who seeks out the meaning of life,
Then explains it with unflinching style.
The child is a chef who makes sandwich and Kool-Aid
And thinks it a royal repast,
A hero who battles the monsters and villains
And renders our land safe at last.
The child is a teacher, a sleuth, an explorer,
Controller of race car and ship,
Possessor of limitless spirit and mind
With holster and gun at the hip.
Reflections of children shine pure in the eyes
Of those who are watching them grow,
Remembering times when the sunrise meant journeys
To lands where adults cannot go.

For the crime of whining, guilty as charged
But this shady lady's tactics need to be barred
Unfair they are
Lured me into her car
Used me for bumpity bump, my reputation is scarred

The gravel grinds
Beneath the tires of my car.
Bumpity bumpity bump,
Air rushes under the car
For a split second
Until the old rubber
Hits the pavement once more.
All the houses are behind me now,
The gas station too.
The town is in my rearview,
Fading into the background.
Outside my windows,
There is nothing
But the empty desert
And the scattered creosote.
A snake here,
A jackrabbit there,
My speed slows.
I am in no hurry;
I'm going nowhere in particular.
Just like this road,
This strip of dirt in the sand,
This road that leads
To Nowhere.

Out of control and down hill fast
Wondering if this life will be snuffed out at last
Stuck on the rails like an antique car
Bumpity, bumpity jerk, jar
The scenes are going too fast to focus
Was this life just hocus pocus?
Tears won't stop the heavy momentum
Physics are against us, check the sum
Hang on till the end
Another life I must lend.

I have trouble writing in free verse
As though my Minds stuck in reverse
Every time I think of a rhyme
It is defiantly writing time
That’s something that will cause a stump
The rhythm can’t go bumpity bump
I am a simple country girl
Few fancy words go in the whirl
Not ignorant or uneducated
Just to my life style dedicated
I write from what is in my heart
Experiences that I played a part
Of faith and love and family
The things in life that we all see
The end result will be of my best
Anything less isn’t worth your request
It took me longer get Microsoft word open
than it took for me to get my first line typed
Approximately 3-4 minuses from start to finish
but I type 24-30 per minute due to physical
and visual handicaps
