Wheelchair on the Fly
Bumpity-bump, slowly, through the airports six times.
My husband gets the exercise and excitement, I crave.
Too much,
as he sees them let go
on the decline - I’m soaring without wings
but who knows
as I
can only see ahead, not behind.
Quickly, we whizz
to catch our shuttle.
I can see THIS
as the driver darts me to and through.
I can’t see YOU - my husband
who can’t keep up.
I’m sure the driver,
with his hands maneuvering the chair,
without a care-in-the-world,
and laughter in his race,
only has his eyes on the prize.
He longs to catch up
to his next ride.
My husband is quite tired as he drives us home,
after being
quite awake.
I’m just glad to tidy up, do the laundry, and find home
in my faithful chair, and enjoy the embrace of
peace and quiet,
and a bite of Antoinette’s Sweets
(her renowned’ orange-chocolate), after a busy vacation.
