When I Heard About the Beatles
I was a preteen when I first heard about The Beatles. Small town girl from the country, sure we had TV But we did not know anything about England or Liverpool. I had never heard “We all live in a Yellow Submarine”. I was at church camp when someone put up some Black and white posters around the cabin. The big city Des Moines girls oohed and ached. The rest of us stared at each other. They were talking about Ringo and John As if they knew them. Paul was the “cute one”. George was rarely mentioned. I thought it was silly. But we listened to their songs day and night Because the Des Moines girls were more aggressive And we acted silly screaming and stuff because it pleased them.
