A semi-silence is my world
I reach out to touch the total silence
and embrace it with my thoughts.
Hearing aids are unreachable.
Insurance does not pay
and the constant ringing is
deafness, creeping ever so creeping.
I reflect now in the semi-silence
with ringing muting the real world
on dragonflies and days gone by
moments of the quiet sigh.
Then I reach for thoughts of total silence
reading faces and lips that speak
louder than voices.
In the midst of cacophony, city noises
and sound pollution-
I will be ready for total silence and think, “how precious”

Into this quiet realm oft do we tread
this quiet place where nought is ever said.
To wax and wain within the mindless air
which fills the clogs and clicks we find in
there. Why then we bump into that thing
again. That thing we can’t describe which
causes pain. We swear to never think of it
again. But as before it always will come
back, to bring this awful cyberspace attack.
We pop a pill and soon the hurt is gone. It
goes to who knows where , I do not care. I’m
fine so long as it leaves me alone. The lesson
here it can be said, don’t dwell ! Strange
things emerge as thoughts inside your head

Semi - Biographical Limerick
There sat an old guy on the stoop
Who considered his poetry poop
He tossed it aside
Then attempted to hide
Now here he is writing on Soup
Inspired by Tim Smith’s Limerick, “The Hot Mom and The Pool Boy”
and a “poopy” comment Jan Allison left on one of mine. : )
Semi = I don’t really have a stoop. : )

Limerick
The wind it seems is staying on the ocean whipping up the sea
The waves tumbling to a smart chop on a shelly sea urchin shore
As there is no wind from the mainland but coming from the oceans side.
Trails of fresh green seagrass are left in the the tides descending echoes
Leaving lines of green froth in the outgoing tide....
Earlier at an Art class the sea poured out from the pencil onto a drawing.
The heavy paper was saturated with pencil marks of a mandarin with all its
pores lying near the detailed edge of a bamboo basket...
Fibre balls lay full and spun with fine seaweed as if waiting to hatch a creature
Seaweed reminiscent of a under-developed plastic bunch of grapes is found.
Footprints in the sand show different tread designs, some quite complex.
Hoof prints in a line , fancy sports shoe prints and tiny flower paw prints.
The grey skys now unleash a torrent of rain popping on the tall tin roof tops.
The safety and warmth of the hall's interior contrasts with the wind outside.
We are seated celebrating a Community Birthday luncheon banquet and
the Communities most Senior members are there to join for communion.
They had just finished a Yoga class and caterers were busy in the kitchen.
Celery soup with Soft music, soft honey sliced meats ,steamed veges and
strawberry mousse brings warm smiles to eyes on age-specked faces.
Outside on the beach a huge long red kite is flowing in the now clear sky.
As we approach its frilly neck, flapping arms and legs and long tail show
a wide eyed 15 metre harlequin red and pink patchwork frilly neck lizard
with a racing car parachute attached by a long cord to a jeep on the beach.

Left over overspills are a typewritten error and a grammatical code of which there is no collision of nouns, verbs or adjectives. Descent described design deriving dug dirt. And a soil no shine. A voided coloured counting ball is many balls on cruises to oil lakes. Found in farm grounds. Sluice then slice slice slice. But thrice times an angle in a wailing tree is nit a crystallized orb nor is it a hyperlink or a cycle of cubic measurement. Mature mo frozen italic of thought to a paper in the mind. And gathering although hazardous is another feat to match the toes of soul. Anatomical wisdom rattle. Shake shake shake. And a smiley snake grimaces at very tight reeds to pass to get the kill. Good. Greedy goblins grabbing gestational genital garments giving going gravitationally. And in addition to this a wide mouthed toad sits on that cake over there. Good. Fake that freezer pop. Z augments Z pathologically Z

Dad has ordered a new shed,
he'll site it in the shade
replacing the one put out by
the local Fire Brigade.
The wheelie bin is full of food
almost a three course luncheon
with sausages as black as coal
and harder than a truncheon.
Home made sauce clings to the sides
like toffee, not that viscous,
and burgers that could be re-used
on sports days as a discus.
Mummy's apron, holed and scorched,
no whiskers on the cat,
bare lawn where flames extinguished with
the neighbour's cricket bat.
“Will there be another one next time?
we'll have to wait and see”
says Dad as he goes to fetch Mum
from outside A&E.
His frizzled locks like coiled springs,
he will not need his comb,
but never mind, the family sings-
“she's coming home
she's coming home
she's coming,
Mummy's coming home....”

Headphones on and volume all the way up. She uses music to escape the world. The beat of the music is the beat of her heart. The rhythm is loud and disorganized. All of her feelings harmonize semi-perfectly to form a dismantled melody. She wraps herself around the lyrics and she becomes the song. Only problem is... no one is listening.

Narrative
the rig sails on
the captain at the wheel
steel billowed crosswinds
and Willie's gruff twang
come back...maybe not flip-flop
rigs riggin' is sailin', movin'
waving goodbye to yesterday
I'm a stowaway into today
ahead is clear horizon
aft is crewed distant past
the ropes taut, creaking
and diseal's low rumble below
port is where we're headed
starboard is starry shafts
stern relentlessly unappeasable
riding the waves bowed
someday I'll tighten up
swigging the anchor line
laying roots off of route one
but at present, rig's tackin'
we're decked out directly
hauling freight, liners for
what in life we're lackin'
so, harden up to the wind
crestin' hill, descendin' trough
this rollercoaster ride of life
keeps sailin' on to skyline
just the mate 'n' the captain

By the time you rolled up
I'd been walking for a couple of hours,
after the Grahamstown kids
were probably done with their lunch.
The back of your four-by-four
was the most comfortable place
I'd imagined I'd see that day.
And after a few good jokes
and some stupid ones too,
you dropped me at the YMCA,
promised to pick me up in an hour,
and sure enough you did.
Burgers and beer,
and the easy company
of a couple of familiar strangers,
guys a lot like me,
made a tiresome day go away.
You directed me to the best place
to put out my thumb in the morning,
and a few more good jokes,
and some stupid ones too,
led me to accept
that stumbling to East London,
wayward and tired,
had put me unexpectedly at ease.
