I smell something so beautiful!
Many different fragrances are drifting toward me.
So many sachets of poetry are prettily displayed.
Such visual delights!
I stoop to relish one - a citrus blend
with sweet anise and cinnamon.
Ah! How fun this poem is with its taste of licorice!

And here’s one that is rather sensuous.
Its aroma is the clove,
clary sage, bergamot, and rose.
How luscious! I linger at this one for a while. . .

Now I lean in toward the scent of chamomile.
This poem soothes the spirit
with its lavender and jasmine blooms in it.
Oh, here is one not only sweet but spicy!
Coriander wafts my way
with cinnamon and ginger. Such a treat to savor!

Next I view a bowl
filled with myrrh and frankincense.
And what else?
Why, it’s the earthy scent of sandalwood
with a touch of patchouli for good measure.
My, this is an epic poem to treasure.

Right next to it I spy a tiny one -
a packet of herbs and other little things,
But oh, how sweet its fragrance
of nutmeg, citrus and vanilla. Indeed, I’ve found a gem.
And here is one completely fresh - a most creative blend
of lemon, lavender and pine. It is divine!

Now a strong scent of sweetness comes to me,
This time from lavender laced
with small petals Of germaniums, and again,
the wondrous cinnamon
that takes my mind far back
to sentimental scenes of childhood.

Balsamic and earthy is the final poem that tempts me
with cedar wood, spruce and fir -
another one with thoughts of life and nature
to ponder as I linger one last time. . .
Then I must leave this sanctuary.

Day after day -
how I love to fill my senses
with poetry potpourri!

This potpourri is a redolent of our sweet memories
When you and I happily shared our love under those deciduous trees
Those fragrant petals and autumn leaves were gathered for you to keep
Bear in mind that my love for you will never fade; but, it’ll run so deep.

You will always be in my thoughts while I’m away
When I’m in the battlefield, you’ll always be in my heart to stay
You’ll be the source of my valor, strength and hope to be alive
You’re the only reason why I always dream to survive.

I’ll always remember those blissful moments when I’m with you
You always prepare my breakfast - one of the sweetest things you do
In our dining room, before you serve the meal for me
Center table is adorned with our sweet potpourri.

Oh, how lovely to see you one morning upon waking up
Your beauty I adore is celebrated outside in musical chirrups
In your beige hat, nice dress in billowing skirt with petticoat you wear
With your sister, those sweet potpourri – you lovingly share

Dining room was entirely filled with a morning grace
When sunshine peeps through the window pane, I see a glow on your face
An enlightenment I feel, for I know your melancholy soon to vanish
When the curtains wave, I’m here my love -- don’t feel any anguish.

The picture of you, I paint it enormously in my mind and heart
When the sky dims, it will be my only hope to look at
As every bit of tiny leaves and petals dispel their fragrance into the air
Inhale and feel deep in your heart my everlasting love and care.

This is a poem dedicated to George Dunlop Leslie. He is really one of the great painters. I admire him and I’m so impressed with his awesome paintings. I thank our dear friend, Isaiah for sharing him with us /me and his works. He truly inspired me to write this poem especially by one of his paintings, Potpourri. I imagined myself as the lady on his painting. i: )))))

Death brings relief in the belief
that afterlife is awaiting.
So shed no tears, harbor no fears
as you cross the river of light.

Potpourri

God gave me Passion of Heart when discovering first love,
A prayer for Love and Peace as symbolized by His Dove.
I have the Confidence of an Oak, deep rooted and unbending,
I glimpsed the Joy of a Dragonfly ere midsummer's day ending.
I've the Enthusiasm of a Butterfly, as it nectars a flower,
and the Patience to accept Life, hour by hour.

All ablaze those summer days,
And such sweet scented flowers!
Glorious gardens and sweet bouquets,
Summer madness in fragrant bowers!

Harvest the grapes and pour red wine;
Whispers of soft, sweet memories...
Burnished autumn days are so fine;
Wild winds scatter love's debris.

Before the sunrise, there was June,
And heady, drunken August;
Night birds sang to the moon,
Wanton fields blossomed lust.

This mellow season, blooms are faded;
No more the blues and brights.
Now the time when love is jaded;
Coming on, the lonely nights!

But, days of rapture soon come again,
And fury of garden and field!
And indigo nights and champagne-
Our fate is sealed!

It takes planning, a graveled path, herb sets
to create a heavenly perfume

some time around bloom time
excess pruned down by a third and hung.

We see a bit of the hanging God then
in the silky down of lavender, thyme

offer homage of pressed violets,
golden suns of marigold as tune of awe.

The mincing of the mints is heavenly
as candy, sharp peppermint, mellow lemon balm,

the bedding down of chamomile, poppy maw,
the spiral sweets and gingered leaves of geranium

shavings of orris root, too many iris anyway
so free them all and set the scent create a smelly sum.

Add carnation stars, sticky sweet hollows of fennel
to tell the men, here is where the women live

won’t you remember your marjoram, your rosemary
with the pots on to boil, or laying head on crisp sheets and sigh.

It all takes planning, to decorate, alleviate, scent
create the corners of a life. Let’s go set the herbs.

Then breathe in the heavenly scent of potpourri lent
as offering, homage to all the plenty wonder of our lives.

Switching channels, trying to stay on top
Mannings and Favre are the cream of the crop

Afraid to miss a single great play
Is this how a lady should spend her Sunday?

Vikings fans stand up and cheer
Purple and gold are winning this year

Look like dem Saints gonna 'Brees' (Understood?)
No more bags, no more 'Ain'ts" (Better knock on some wood!)

Not much success for the Tampa Bay Bucs
But faithful fans are still wishing them luck

The Giants appear to be bouncing back
Eli and team mates try to regain their track

Great quarterbacks like Luckman and Tittle
Let's hope our Giants remain "fit as a fiddle"

Touchdowns and field goals get fans outta their seats
While I scream and applaud, my cheerleading repeats

Reviews and replays are part of this game
As great football legends, their names shall remain

Let's get ready to watch game of football.
It's the number one game to watch in the fall.

Choose a team that will be a winner.
Watch the game just before dinner.

Oklahoma sooners is my team who's yours?

Many thanks to the football fans who contributed, including Linda-Marie Bariana, Karen
O'Leary, Tim Ryerson, Matthew Annish and Teresa Skyles (the Sooner fan!).

Horizons bright in tints of flight
beam welcoming rays, breaking free;
excitement springs at lifting wings--
celestial metamorphosis

New wings to don, my love has gone
To happy new home he has earned.
I need to dry the tears I cry,
Cheer with him for his grand new life.

Dear man, you are a distant star.

I wish your eyes on me would shine.

Come close to me; a firefly be,

So I might hold you in my palm!

Response To Potpourri

Her mood changes, I’ll never guess
But, she’s the breath that soothes time’s ache---
Mildly rambling,my fond words bring
A love nurtured through season’s test.

No lamps needed as sun headed
     For its visible all around,

Death and life are certain and rife

Potpourri

Each day as I awaken,
Potpourri's on my mind;
Those moments we shared as one,
Together, our hearts entwined

The years bred forth an eerie change,
Our spirits grew further apart;
Those sweet memories of potpourri,
Won't mend a broken heart

Response To Potpourri

love can achieve the words I weave
on a canvas etched on my heart
whispered each day these words I say
fell in love with you from the start

In church I said I do to you
our journey has not been easy.
Marriage takes work; we must not shirk
total commitment, love and trust.
