Premium Member 12-31-23: A Number's Existential Crisis

'Twas the twilight of the year
     a twinkling tiara.
December 31st, digits dancing dunes
     in the Sahara.
One, two, three, one, two, three,
     it's a prance.
A numerical Irish step dance
     given a whimsical chance.

In the calendar's corners,
      a magical mystery unfurls.
As the date spins and swirls
     like a jester's jingling twirls.
One, two, three, one, two, three,
     in a line.
A date so divine,
     it deserves its own shrine
          so fine!

But wait, what's this? A satirical twist!
The date's just a number
     it doesn't exist!
One, two, three, one, two, three,
     what's the fuss?
Wait… all dates are human-
     created
          YES, by us!

The numbers are shocked
     feeling quite superfluous.
In the grand scheme of things
     oh so ridiculous!

So here's to the New Year
     let's raise a toast.
To the date that we've come
     to boast the most.
With champagne that sparkles
     and tastes like the sun.
2023 is yet undone
     run from the old
          to the new one,
               run, run, run!

In the canon of the digits
     a lesson we see.
Time is a construct
     as fluid as the sea.
So let's celebrate the moments
     both big and small.
For, in the end
     they're the most
          precious of all.

Premium Member My Sudoku Life

And I walk
across numerical figments
speaking hyperbole dialect to their imaginations.

Numb, blocky gaps
whisper invitation to secret club.

Enticing my stature
to belong
to become exponent’s side-kick.

So they can welcome me with open arms.

Coating my digits with inoperable tumors
double-knotted in hot pink laced bow
and baby-breath scent.

They even left a Walmart Rollback smiley face sticker
with crack residue on right cheek
and a comic-style bubble caption, “welcome home puppet”.

Yes!

This is exactly how Mother 1 told me it would be.

Kinda like marriage,
but less detail-oriented.

But, I could never fit in.

For I am neither positive
nor negative
about their (cult) ural ways.

Timing would always be off.

An arm from the clock that suffered a stroke at Midnight…

They’d never understand,
how they’d alter this unevenly, odd numerical figment.

For they’ll just calculate,
deduce,
my sum with rusty protractor.

This Zero, into a fraction...

Words he formed.
  Shells, pebbles, sorted by color
    Straight grey lines
      Curved watery blue
        Rosy dots
          Sand dollar phrases
drifting, floating, resting on the shore
                  Gathered decorative patterns
               garland and seaweed
      Expressed feelings
       hand dug gully around
        his small world filled with
         salty water
                     And he lay down
                   safely on his island
                 Awaiting the surf, the tide,
               pure white ripples of hope
             to wash away the pain
Words he formed
   with his fingers
      folding air around
         simmering sun
            finally realizing
               his thoughts had meaning
                  as nary a cloudy day
                     could be seen since…
                                         He sent out his heart
                                        It flew for him
                                       Sent out his soul, surfing
                                      in rhythmic coastal stanzas
                                     lapping a lazy shore
                                    measuring the distance
                                   beyond a vertical eclipse
                                  where water meets air
and the sky merges with his dreams
         With eyes closed
               his horizontal form
                     sails through time
                           closing chapters
                                 and opening pages,
                                       dog-eared memories in numerical order
At the count down of
5 he lands ashore
4 drapes his sea-green garments around self
3 gathers dollars, dignity
2 opens his eyes
1 thanks his therapist for the session
0 leaves, with a sense of regret.

Perscribed Reality

Rarely reaching the expansive ranges
Where infinity influences reality changes

With illusion marked stigma stamped impressions
Sparingly accessed acceptance processing life lessons

Voided all non-existent concepts entered into calculation
Subtracting negative signs doubling positive discrimination

Facing minutes handed seconds clockwise directional hour
Provided additional limitations restricting free powers

Lawlessly abiding thoughts trapped scribing under thin glass
Persuaded temptation daily weekly monthly years pass

Beliefs based beyond cellular systematic space
Uncontrollable devolving of our intelligent human race
Technological aspects statistical advancing mathematical rations
Places recognized first second third in numerical fashion

Reality set standards store a suppressed revelation
I am one of realities patients
Prescribing divine elevation

Premium Member Better Names for an Octopus

A better name for an octopus?
It's tough to make stuff up.
We could start with a brand-new appellation.
How about a name like "Suction Pup"?!

Or perhaps we could start the debate
with a numerical tag like "Ocean's Eight".

Another name open for discussion
would be a handle like "Squid's Cousin".

Still another, somewhat grandiloquent,
could be the rather pompous "Inknificent".

My Scottish friends, with joy, will weep
if the new label is "Bagpipes of the Deep"!

Or one can almost hear sailors shout "Ahoy!
Is that a rock? No, it's an Ol' Tangly Boy!"

Premium Member One

"One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
Two can be as bad as one, its the loneliest number since the number one" Beginning lines of a song I like sung by 3 Dog Night

Multiplied by ONE, numbers stay the same.
So unique is ONE, it is like the sun.
For me, it is the number of my name
in numerology, for I was “One”
when I was born. Did you know each letter
has numerical value? You can find
online your name’s number. Even better,
more numbers from your birth date you’re assigned.

ONE means confidence and self-reliance,
maybe selfish, but very self-aware.
I love alone time; dislike compliance.
For God and unity, ONE will forbear.
The loneliest of numbers ONE may be,
but I’m happy “One” is a part of me.

They try to give math a happier spin
"How many times can this number go in?"
As if you are part of some numerical clique
Because you can find a square root extra quick.
It's always "add up," time's up," "divide up,"
That keeps me looking down, counting down, feeling . . . yup.
I can't find the angle for a celebration
When numbers and math are in the equation!!!

Dear strong, mysterious Mr. Richter,
I have adored you all semester.

It's all about the way you say "cosign"
and the command you give to busy equations.
You keep those numbers all in line,
as if any one could give dissuasions.

With exponent passion you draw me in,
a mathematician first, then a teacher.
Each number's a friend, a neighbor, a kin.
Each student is a math-munching creature.

You couple denominators, strong and alike,
a prismic marriage of commonality,
then suddenly you divide them like
a Shakespearean tragedy.

Then you flip-flop like common weather,
and in a calm numerical tangent,
you bring those digits back together
like a quadrilateral sonnet.

Your rhombus eyes, like tigers animate
when you say the word "perpendicular."
Could you say you'd ask me for a date,
anywhere logarithmic, but I'm not particular.

Take me away on a coordinate plane,
parallel to a median integer
with stem-and-leaf plot as the terrain,
and a commutative property perimeter.

I can offer admiration and a laugh,
just teach me how to use a protractor.
Of all the variables on a bar graph,
we are the greatest common factor.

Premium Member Wilderness In the Rainforest

It is a tree of five hundred one and twenty different fruits
with nine others totally disenfranchised
in a garden of more than a colour of grapes
a black bunch out of every five same
is its numerical contribution in such defined location

A flowing stream, originating from the Nok aboriginals
has created different hundreds of tributaries
in its inland is a town where fertility is ambidextrous
and the most diversified of the colourful flying beauties
is found within its territory

A family possessing envious wealth but seemingly a myth
b’cos of the Mephistophelian deeds of its guardians
its house, built on land where toothpick germinates to a monstrous tree
and man power capable of producing half a continent of sky scrapers
yet six out of every ten of its members
are less comfortable than a pet in the west

Premium Member Influential and Powerful Is This Territory

Ancient and modern is this heartbeat
of a kingdom of four territories;
becoming the first biter to the endocarp of industrialization;
the first host to a global carnival of sports;
running the eldest of all notable department stores
and oldest without aging is one of its publishing houses.

A historic accumulator of colonies
with a spoken identity well pumped into different parts of the world
which has married diplomacy, economy and finance
to give global relevance to anyone who acquires it.
Even with this huge dominance,
Its initial lingua franca was
an adoption from its southern neighbor.

From Winchester to London, the route of its history is endless
Wwth the Lincoln cathedral the first overtaker
of the great pyramid of Gaza in an increasing participating race
and the first caster of the globe’s lifeless identity in Aluminium.
It’s a relentless consumer of Tea
having agents of law enforcement surprisingly not needing weapons
only but in situations of an adrenaline rush.

This defined region also has shoulders high above all others
in space and capacity showcased by Hay-on-Wye,
in dimensions and height, exhibited by Nature’s craft in Avebury,
in the size of a residence of royalty decorated in Windsor,
in numerical value of products traded in Harry ramsden
and a proud member of the starters’ club
in the creation of transportation mediums through rails.

The home of technology’s birth
and the courtyard where science is entertained
which is both less and greater than Thomas Harriot;
smiling when Christopher Merret and the Champagne
both got registered in history’s dairy.

The contribution of William Dockwra through stamps;
the excellence of Charles parsons shown in the stream turbine;
and the magic of Bletchley park
exhibited through the wonders of the colossus
are a fascinating fraction of a wing of its colourful feathers.
If these praises should spread online
The entire world of the internet has among others, Tim Berners to thank.

Mysterious

Mysterious,
he was
with much
to give,
The proof
change
is possible
while torment
and tradgidies
show their
negative face,
That's our reality
as we spin
through space
experiencing
a common plain,
All these words
giving perception
to our experience
spiraling
and colliding
inside our head,
Spirit, the soul and our intellect,
Detecting Ancient Wise Knowledge,
Consciousness communicating
through thought
having much to say,
Discovering Art,
Hand gesture,
Symbols
and numerical digits,
Information legit?
A generation
with knowledge
at our finger tips
but most
don't choose
this path,
Wasted time by design
manufactured from concepts
concieved from
cause
and effect,
Study this
and have it become
part of your being,
Also used by evil
bringing negative
interactions
so be aware,
Come up
with new ideas,
Positive with
productive growth
the imagination
is a funny thing...

After Three Before Five

What’s in a number besides it being the mathematical object used to count, the number that comes after three but before five a sequence of numbers most commonly starting with one and ending with ten. What’s in a number the difference between a number and a digit a single numerical symbol or a string of one or more digits. Is it a even or a odd number. Ask yourself what’s in a number?
