This Song Is For My Mother

This song is for my mother
Let her hear me cry
I couldn’t bring myself to write it
‘Til this darkened day arrived
A song about old promises
Made so long ago
Created and cremated
Ashes of the words I spoke

Long separated by the miles
Distanced from her golden smiles
Memory of a mother
Shared my dreams and really cared

Long separated by the miles
Distanced from her golden smiles
Mama…
I know I wasn’t there……

For you

Would have placed
A magic carpet
‘neath your weak and shaky legs

Would have raised
A strong west wind
Let you breathe with ease again

Would have bribed
God’s venal angels
Come and soothe your endless pain

Would have vanquished
All the demons
And bring peace to you again

Be the child
I never knew
In a land
We won’t grow old

Be the light
I always loved
Warmed my dark
And lonely soul

Be the girl
Playing games
In a world
The sun won’t set

Be the laughter
Calms my heart
I never will forget
I won’t forget, won’t forget

This song is for my mother
Let her hear me cry
Couldn’t bring myself to write it
‘Til this darkened day arrived
Song about old promises
Made so long ago
Created….cremated
Ashes of the words I spoke

I broke my promises, oh mama
Now you’ve gone away
I’m broken
Drowning in the pain each day

I’m drowning…drowning...drowning…drowning

This song is for my mother
Let her hear me…….

Premium Member A Tribute To My Mother

Where I am probing a tranquil night
I find you there in the depth of skies
Among shiny stars, my beloved sight,
Endearing as ever to gratified eyes.

You are my smile, my forever pride,
On journey of life, you are my guide,
You’re my treasure, you’re my rock,
In your footsteps, I endeavor to walk.

Oh! when I ached, how you too cried,
An affectionate presence by my side
Cheering every feat since I was a child,
With my happiness how you too smiled.

In tenebrous times, you were our light,
When we encountered stormy shore,
In face of danger you were the knight
While enduring gusty seasons of yore.

You tutored me on right from wrong,
Those blessings of verity I pass along
As your love brightens arc of my dawn
On halo eternal, though you are gone.

In albums of past my memories revive,
Cherish and thrive, as if you are alive,
For undying is love so angelic and true,
Rekindling bond anew, thinking of you.

Premium Member Caring For My Mother - a Letter To a Loving Friend

I sit here alone...wondering...how much longer this...and in hearing
the question a silent icy fear blankets my body...the answer would
come wearing both masks...tragedy...comedy...this is my life. with
freedom comes death...it hangs over me like a Mexican piñata filled
with chocolate covered blades...so each day firmly slipped into
neutral I exist...barely a choice to live...so I ask myself...how
did I get here...the answer comes thundering from up above...
a dead poet speaks...son that is the path you chose at your fork
in the road... you don't argue the truth...you just throw cold water on
your face...no...you step into a frigid shower...cleanse your thoughts
...stand in defeat happy to feel something even if it is just the pain of
your nerve endings screaming...soaking wet and naked is the only life
you presently afford yourself...there is no one to hear your tears...
what little sound they make rolling down your cheeks...they are not
self pitying but rather wanting...of a loss so deep...what in your own
self appreciation defined you...you want back your art...it...that so
often led you back to the promised land...still you are not that hot
headed fool you once were...you will not stand on the mountain only
to shatter the tablets with their ten commandments...a cooler head
prevails...so you think...like a soap opera...these are the days of my
life...I am strong and vibrant...yes I am and I will walk as slowly as I
must towards my light and yes I will come out the other side a better
man for this.

The gate of heaven opens wide
as angels on either side guide
her through, while we all mourn and cry.
Praising, she sits by our Lord's side.

Premium Member I Think She Is My Mother

I was dreaming of a hunting quest,
   feral, wild and untamed in a land strange;
then, outside my fluffy fur there was a change,
the bright sun was shining into our nest.
Yawning wide and on the bed my claws- pressed,
   I am soft grey and a pet of one;
I like to prowl pretend mice that in the house run.
Oh, on my mother's lips a kiss I have pressed!

Well, I think she is my mother, anyway,
   and I see her eyes flutter and she does stir;
MEOW! Is she going to sleep all day ?
So into her right ear I loudly purr,
   I am forced to stand on her chest and plea;
Oh! Do get up and make our tea!
Then, she hugs me close to her heart with love,
and she calls me her little turtle dove!

Now, mother is walking towards the kitchen,
   I zoom past her sliding on the wood floor;
yes, ready to do my part- to pitch in,
I know mother what dwells behind that door !
That's right, make the tea and in my bowl pour,
   yes, in my plate my yummy food place;
and when I am all full we can play chase . . .
so, sorry mother, didn't mean to break that vase!

You never cease amazing me
how all these years you loved us so;
we tried your patience you’ll agree.
You never cease amazing me
for in this life no guarantee
a person’s love they will bestow.
You never cease amazing me
how all these years you loved us so.

Premium Member My Mother Dear

She brought me into this world with her love,
One of the precious gifts from up above,
From her womb ‘til I stand on my own feet,
She did everything for my benefit.

She was my first teacher and she was stern,
For her, in life I have so much to learn,
Sometimes, with her great love I’m also hurt,
She is not perfect, but she wants the best.

I salute her for being a martyr ,
Serving her family who is so dear,
She is my sunshine during stormy day,
My guidance and strength when I lost my way.

I’m so lucky that she is my mother
I am of what I am because of her.

Note:
A dedication to my loving mom. That's really her. Ever since, she works so hard for the family as a dressmaker. She'd sacrificed a lot for us especially when we were young( my 2 brothers and I) because according to her and my dad, we were so sickly especially when we were still babies ;))).I love her so much and I'm so proud of her. HAPPY HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Premium Member The Bell My Mother Rang

The 18th of December was her last day;
she neither knew the date nor cared to.
Gathered at the hospital, keeping vigil,
we never overcame her fright, or ours.
The pain, too great to be driven away,
was only managed with IV drips,
needles stuck in bruised appendages --
bony things, arms and legs, hands and feet.

Above the medicines and washes,
we sniffed her scent, which, more
than her familiar face, identified our mother --
a smell we never could mistake for any other.
It went quickly as her body cooled.

The rouged and pickled carcass they
displayed was more a statue than a person.

We planned to bury her with homely tokens,
like an ancient mummy: a family photo,
a brooch she liked, a pink hairbrush --
and the brass bell she rang to call
her keeper during her last years.
But, when the time came, I could not
bear to see her leave so finally.

I took the bell from her metal box.
Now, I ring it -- not to bring a keeper,
but to recall my mother on her birthday,
and on many dark days when I need her.

My Mother Thinks I'M a Doctor

My mother thinks I'm a doctor
I just don't have the guts
To tell her I spent all my college doe
On beer, wine, women and such

So after I faked my graduation
Said I was moving to the South
To help the less fortunate among us
Another lie I let slip out

I'm now in the south of Florida
Where some may call me a bum
Living in a citrus grove along the coast
Not answering to anyone

It's really not such a bad life
This do nothing life I've made
I hear my Moms proud of me at afternoon tea
Telling the girls of all the lives I save

I do my share of dumpster diving
That's where I got the idea
Behind a real doctors office one day
With some of their stationary I nabbed

I did a little doctoring
After all I do play one in Moms mind
Doesn't look to lame where I inserted my name
Then wrote my Mom about the kids and the wife

I've created such an elaborate charade
It's now gotten all out of hand
As I panhandle my way up and down
The Sunshine states surf and sand

Mom now says she wants to visit
Can't wait to meet the wife and kids
Don't know how I let it get this crazy
And how it all lead up to this

Now I'm scrambling to find a vacant house and a woman
With a couple of kids that look just like me
That can go along with a ruse for a week in mid-June
Since I told her that's when I'd be free

I'm thinking I should of studied in college
Instead of being this mind numbing huckster
Telling lie after deepening lie
Just so my Mother would think I'm a doctor

My Lifetime Friend: My Mother

MY LIFETIME FRIEND: MY MOTHER

Throughout childhood and adolescent days,
She was my staunchest supporter,
And through teen years and young adulthood
I was glad to be her daughter.
As a mother-in-law and grandma,
She’s there whenever/wherever she’s needed,
And if this was to be her lot in life,
She’s definitely succeeded.
But whatever she is to other folks;
A friend, sister or other,
She is to me, and will always be

Premium Member Cruella De 'Vile' - Was My Mother In Law

I never ever meant to ALIENATE Cruella my mother in law
But her CAPRICIOUS INURBANE manner was really pretty poor

Cruella was PERSPICUOUS in her opinion and she would never listen
I was just her SCAPEGOAT and many times my eyes would glisten

I’d try my best to FLATTER her, I’d comment on her new dress
But if I’m being MALIGNANT she often looked a blinking mess!

Our TRANSITORY seldom meetings were never that much fun
We would DISSIPATE quickly, and out of the door I would run

I would GRAVITATE to the garden to get a little bit of peace
In the end I decided that our rare visits would now have to cease!

Premium Member What Didn'T Kill Us - My Mother In Law's Cooking

I endured burnt offerings at the table -
A meal ‘cooked’ by my mother in law
If I hadn’t been married her lovely son
I’d have walked straight out of the door!

I heaved at every charred mouthful
Smiled, and said the meal was ‘divine’
She told me she’d had cookery lessons
But her food was only fit to feed swine!

Is my poem just a fairy story
Or is it a clever allegory?

My Mother, My Hero

She may be someone so many people know,
but my mother will always be my favorite hero.
She is tough and strong in ways I can’t explain,
and in moments of sadness, her joy shall remain.
On my heart she leaves a tender loving stain.

What is a hero in everybody’s longing eyes?
It’s someone who in extreme difficulty still tries.
She’s a rock for the family when in distress,
I’m proud to be her daughter, I must confess.
She calms me down when I’m an emotional mess.

When I’m sick she makes me chicken soup to heal,
if only she knew how loved she makes me feel.
Her adoring faith shows in her daily life,
and for my dad is the most heartwarming wife.
She saves my soul when in stuck in anguished strife.

She’s kind and forgiving full of fortitude and trust,
and being there for others has always been a must.
She raised me to be the woman I am today,
and inspires my writing in every single way.
There are so many other compliments I could say.

She’s the sweetest grandma to my beautiful daughter,
because courage and love she has always taught her.
At the soup kitchen she helps the starving people eat,
giving food and water that they don’t get on the street.
To little homeless Joey she always gives a special treat.

She asks for nothing but gives more of herself,
even though she’s not in the perfect health.
I know no one who is like her to many others,
the foundation of strength to my sister and brother.
No there will never be another hero like my mother.

Premium Member Apologies To My Mother

I didn’t appreciate you enough; I'm sorry, I didn’t know
Difficult times, raising us was so tough; I’m sorry I didn’t know
Little money, food in limited supply, yet you never complained
I didn’t notice your hands were so rough; I’m sorry, I didn’t know
While working two jobs as well as keeping us all safe, fed and happy
You always seemed calm , never harsh rebuffs; I’m sorry, I didn’t know
I don’t think you ever had more than one dress or a new winter coat
We had more love than material stuff; I’m sorry I didn’t know
Jeanie now a mom herself and understands what it must have been like
When I speak of mother my voice gets gruff; I’m sorry, I didn’t know….

On Viewing the Corpse of My Mother-In-Law

[Please note: while this poem may seem harsh, my mother-in-law did much good in her long life, more than I expect I have. It was prompted by the 'shock' that death has the power to take even those with the fiercest of wills.]

How could this...thing have been her?
Lying shriveled and small on the bed,
as those who loved (and feared) her
gathered in the bereft hospital room
to let their shock and grief melt and
mold itself into its own atmosphere....
Her body seemed never to have been real,
never to have been a woman,
never to have been young once, and surely,
never to have been a mother....

And if it had been a body once,
housing a small dragon who could lash out fire
solely with her harsh and brutal tongue,
keeping those who loved her at bay and
the rest of us wary, aware of her power,
her terrible gift that seemed to shrink your soul--
then where did she go when her mouth froze open
as the last breath of a long life left quietly,
silently, without fuss or rancor...?

Still, though imperfect as you or I,
she was loved, mourned, honored....
If God only housed saints,
think how terribly lonely He would be.
