She Breaks

Neon billboards scream a symphony of
images
in attempts to sell
happiness
by bleeding dissatisfaction into her mind.

Glossy, crisp pages remind her that she isn't
good enough
to be accepted by a
society
that values celebrity over individuality.

Reflections in the mirror only
reinforce
her perceived
inadequacies
as mascara stains her fair cheeks.

The gears of discontentment crush
us all
and in our attempts to
rebuild ourselves
we realize just how broken we are.

But there exists a deeper truth:

Within our eternal
soul
is a beauty that no amount of make up can hide.

Shame,
a shroud,
has fabric
woven from the
dark, anguished threads of
self-recriminations
and of inadequacies.
Caught in its twist, the frail weave on,
constraining themselves in self-loathing.
Unravel fibers of despair. . . Unveil!

Premium Member Just Part of the Crowd

I have plucked the glory of the brightest star
and came close enough to touch its fingers,
searched the realms that inhabit its womb
or even felt that wildly young adult passion,

that I was inconquerable at 21,,, 30
maverick and a trail-blazer, yet present life
leaves me smaller options in this new generation...
a personal résumé now gauged by the sum
of all my human inadequacies and lost challenges
against mythical idols, godly super-heroes of a work-force,
of a pop culture that in a quest like a holy grail,

I strive to find myself in this new decade, writhing inside
my very core; hiding as a porcelain doll,
face unmoved---just following the crowd:
Fuelled by relentless doubt, I have no name
which can define my worth as a mature woman--

a mediocre artist, a reluctant lover needing to taste
the fire of life after being swallowed by cliché- roles.

Moths nibble my pores, staining my 90s graduation dress...
while the luminous star of individuation passes me by
in a flash as if to leave me naked again,

infertile among dry weeds.

Premium Member Across the Room

Across the room, harsh moonlight flares
like a blister inside your eyes…
those gazes piercing into my forbidden secrets
and inadequacies, numb —
holding me captive among lackluster stars
that prowl on ashes of confession,
an untold reparation wrought by pride:

Candles burn while I lean motionless
In glum of evening, this evening when truth
Finds us questioning ardor’s devotion --
Until my voice lilts to stir a moment of grace ,
of mercy : I peer into those eyes quietly, slowly
knowing moonlight still flares across the room.

Sisterhood, Brotherhood

Sisterhood, brotherhood is a state
To be seriously worked at. It is hard, and
Needs lots of grace more powerful than us.

Love is God’s grace He gave on the Cross.
Only such love can take us to love another.
It is so powerful it can overcome our dark self.

When we have this love, our soul will be fed;
Stronger even amidst troubles others cast upon us
And still look at them with deep love and concern.

With this love in us, we are able to forgive first;
Rather than judge hastily and throw a stone
So that retribution and justice will be done.

We will be secure in our inadequacies;
Gentler to ourselves and more so with others
For now we know we are no better than them.

We trust no longer in our capacity to love;
Rather abandon our ego and let this grace
Flow and free us from our fears and unbelief.

Premium Member 'fierce, Yet Gentle Love'

Precious moments shared
Between a dad and his daughter
The gentle way a mom
Would cuddle her baby
Actions without complexity
There is no uneasiness about it

It's love spoken without words
Just like that God loves us too
He sometimes reminds us of His love
In the most obtuse way
His love is always there
In that you can feel secure
He doesn’t love you less today
Then he did yesterday
Your fear and pain is not a surprise to Him

All you have to do is be honest
Don’t dwell on your inadequacies
Those are manmade
God loves all of you
Even the fractions you think are unlovable

Swill

SWILL

The sadness epoch has never exist.
Life is just full of inadequacies.
I know that many may disagree.
Insofar as humanity is perilous and iniquity, we must never lose ourselves within these means.

I want to cry but I do not have the strength.
My eyes are dry and my mind lives.

A man can peak a mountain with ease.
He can venture into the unknown without asking for help to proceed.
Therein, he may find knowledge of long ago.
If not, he will become thirsty with the need to know.

He may want to cry but his tear ducts have closed.
He is out of water and his life is exposed.

The rain poured and the well was dry.
The drought has been on since summertime.
Today the country rejoice.
Once they were out of water, but now each life has been replenished.

We are the people that must feel.
We were created by a real God; therefore, we are given the will to live.

Wash
Drench
Drink!

Gratitude List Poem

I’m grateful for:

Not seeing any gratitude lists today because I’m usually not on them.
The pinch of a biting mosquito
The feverish temper of a hungover boss
The grand humility of Donald Trump
How easy it is to understand Ezra Pound
The well-known soothing brush of hot air on a mid-August Phoenix late-Afternoon
Hungry sharks while surfing
AND sarcasm

The vicious unpredictability of my once young mother’s rage
My father’s mental absence because of his obsession with sports
The ongoing sufferings of my mental illness
My gender identity issues that always circle back around
My belly being so large I can barely tie my shoelaces
Financial instability
Government corruption
AND fear

The gentle end to the recession
My job that overlooks my inadequacies
Economic growth in light of current political conditions
God’s forgiveness
My cat’s affection regardless of how often I’m not at home
My physical health
Gifts in spite of a lack of obedience
AND Grace

All the many possibilities
God’s favor
Relationship opportunities
Sexual activity nearing
Pleasant distractions
Distant escapes
A professor that gives me good grades
AND hope

Pictures of a Good Father

When it comes to being a good father what do most young black men see?
Can they picture their fathers passing down any legacies?
Do they remember any male bonding or talks on how to be good men?
Do they have any perceptions or even comprehend?
Unfortunately too many households are single parent with only a mother in residency
Caused by incarceration, unemployment and dysfunctional inadequacies
Too many don't have a clue of what a good father should be
As the father factor in their lives was one of obscurity

But God is the ultimate father figure to each and every man
And if you desire to be like Him read His words and follow His plans
To become a good father you must examine the Holy Scriptures
And hopefully you'll be able to obtain a good father picture
Now tapping into God's heavenly Twitter account
And Facebooking the Gospel to see what its all about
Fully prepared to formulate, cultivate and stimulate your spiritual life
So that your behavior and way of thinking lines up with Jesus the Christ

A picture of a good father is a man who leaves a financial legacy
So that his children won't exist in a state of abject poverty
By showing them how to save and how to invest
Leaving a fruitful inheritance and a full hope chest

A picture of a good father is a man whose vine is rooted in a strong foundation
And structured to lift him up in godly formation
Respectful, resilient, loving, loyal and kind
Of strong moral conviction and secure in his mind
Knowing who he is and what he could be
And having healthy relationships with every member of his family

So if you're broken, bitter, angry and have any doubts
Seek God and a professional to help you work it out
And i say this to all women and I hope you receive
You need to let a man be a man to his family
Stop disrespecting him and put your anger and pride to the side
He is doing the best he can so work with him by walking stride for stride

A picture of a good father is a man concerned about his community
Who comprehends we live in a global society
A man who gets involved and not stay isolated
As we are all a part of this world that God created
A picture of a good father is a man who loves and respects his family and community
A man strongly rooted, striding humbly and secure in his spirituality

Poems For Children Only

Poems for Children Only

If poem seems bad straighten it out for me
So maybe soon eventually I can start to see
What I thought were to be my eccentricities
Compared to yours were all inadequacies.

Many of my verbs may be in wrong tense
Word arrangement never made much sense
Some adverbs should be adjectives instead
And ending of my people often did dread.

Okay, my comrade poets I must confess
What should I do to straighten out this mess?
Start trying to tear all of my poems apart;
Write poems for children only soon do start.

Cinquain Train Ii

Ways, means?
My shopping list?
My billfold; my bank card?
There seems to be inadequacies’
somewhere.

Today
the sun is bright.
I need to cut my grass
but the sun is so bright today
I can’t.

from you
flows the sunshine
from you the wind is touch
from you runs the river of life
for me

fireworks
will fly and we
will rejoice at the end.
If the end comes and with it a
new start.

and Crocs,
Alligators,
Cotton-mouth water snakes,
and those large Logger-head turtles;
all bite.

Accept
this tone, this word
as it is printed here
and pass it along to the next
player.

Marriage

Two halves of imperfection--
kaleidoscope emotions and traits
fractured and tumbled as
sea glass on the shore--
amalgamated into symmetry
by the Master’s hands
with the pulchritude of stained glass.
A perfection of cohesiveness
despite the flawed edges, cracks,
and inelegance of life.
The cohesive nexus of family,
sustained through inadequacies, and deficiencies,
avowed by the broken that fit
according to His plan
in a splendor of imperfect completeness.
