( HEALING, THE CHILD WITHIN )
Maybe you didn't know,
how much it would mean to me
to have your hand in mine.
Maybe you didn't know,
how much it would mean
to hear your voice.
Maybe you didn't know
the dreams I had...
of love and of sailing.
Little pictures in the sand,
What is my name?
Tears in my pillow,
you never saw.
Time has shattered--
no hellos or hurrahs,
graduation or pretty flowers
Trees are so tall,
it makes me wonder...
Red bird flying,
wait for me.
Dreams as wide as the ocean
listen when I speak...
I long to please.
I'd give you all I had
hidden treasures
from my pockets
and my heart.
Grown woman, little child
my hand still reaches-
Time is swiftly going.
Take my hand in yours,
Lord....Father
May I call you that??
Lead me to safety, to the unknown,
stay with me for a while.
Blue skies fill the earth,
a gentle breeze blows,
I close my eyes
and I feel ...
peace.

Patricia McCormic – Bullfighter
A bull, a sword, a big red cape
A cheering crowd, a girly shape
She was the first back in her day
A Matador, the best they’d say
At least among the girls back then
For until her, they were all men
Not just a girl, a Yankee to boot
Dressed up in a manly suit
She fought 300 bulls or more
And only six times did bulls gore
But once the gore was so severe
They thought her end was very near
A priest came out to give “last rites”
After one of her losing fights
And he issued one last order
Let her die north of the border
But she survived to fight again
And faced those bulls with her girly grin
This courageous girl would stand
With just the red cape in her hand
The bulls would charge, she wouldn’t flinch
As the bulls passed by within an inch
She’d end the dance with the coup de gras
Amid the “Bravos” and “Hurrahs”
For ten years she endured
The thought of getting skewered
By bulls that she engaged within the ring
Now her thoughts are so much lighter
She’s a teacher, she’s a writer
As bullfighting no longer is her thing

"Life is being on the wire; everything else is just waiting"
-- Karl Wallenda
Like Poe's baleful bird in a body suit designed
to befriend the wind, beautiful in black against day-
break in a Manhattan sky, 100 meters up 'plus que
Le Tour Eiffel' and graceful as a 'danseur' at the Opera
Garnier, he is cloudspeak, sky-creature, one foot
firmly on the wire, then the second, as if reprising
rehearsals a continent away, while partners
in crime in the wings swallow their apprehension,
knowing he will check out his balance
from the bank in which only he deposits.
Daybreak in the city that never sleeps,
the divine somnambulist steps out as surely as
a seabird flying overhead seeks salt. Would
that I had been among the throngs gathered
below, ordinary endeavors discarded, necks
craning at the eclipse of the sun, 'grace a' not one,
but eight crossings in the space of an hour
between each tower of the World Trade Center
in the greatest city in the world. And,
he is laughing at his would-be captors,
dancing out of reach, time and time again
until at last they cajole him down, and hand-
cuffed, lead him away, asking 'Why, Why?
to which he replies, 'There is no Why', juggling
a policeman's cap upon his nose. Pardon him? Yes,
they must-- to the hurrahs of onlookers
and into the arms of Erath (or her earthly surrogate)
no newsreel needed, clothing airborne, body-
to body, skin-to-skin, heart to heart. Passion
for life? 'Cest beau comme ca' ...
It was a Thursday the first time we "met"
Just like today except two score and three
Nearly two years from the time our eyes first beget
Who could have imagined what our lives might be
The pitter-patter of little feet
The hurrahs of victory, the agony of defeat
Tears of pain and tears of joy
The honor and pride of raising three boys...
Now men.
The triumph of staying married ...with poise
Amen.
Being witness to the birth of our baby girl
And being there for her in her young adult world
Defining and redefining love and being in love
And realizing our years have been blessed from above
For it is not only an equation of you and me
There's our wonderful children for all to see
Lives that could never be the same , if not at all
Because the cosmic forces of Nature and God
Saw to it that we found each other...
And Love.

Up on our old tar roof, Friday night, I watched football
the high school was about a mile from my house.
You could always hear it at night.
I could see everything and nothing at the same time
Score: 20-21, hurrahs, screams of young kids, and older kids.
It was all a roar, a mixture of shouts and screams
the stadium lights glowed like Hollywood lights
and then my mind began to wander
Hollywood California, zip code 90210
I always imagined I lived in California – the climate there was basically the same as Florida.
California was where everyone on every television show had ever lived
In the mind of a 10-year-old, anyway.
it’s a fun way to pass time. Imagining places that could be home, when you’re an adult.
I swat at my one-hundredth mosquito that moment
More importantly it is where Justina Saurez did not live – a bully to my mind and soul
I contemplated what kind of actress I would be if suddenly discovered
A Marilyn? Or Lucille Ball?
The stars stared down at me, unflinching – unbroken by the night
As I wished to be
Another touchdown
I was on the verge of something big - I could feel it
The stars were telling me
“There is something hidden away only to be shown to you on a very special day”
What was out there? That's what I wanted to know.
APRIL 23 NATIONAL DAY of ENGLAND
ENGLAND my England
In England on April twenty-third
hurrahs in celebration are to be heard
the cross of St George is unfurled to fly
& the shouts of true patriots loudly cry
My England
Rainsoaked fields,pastel green,
perennial impressions
of country scenes.
Shire counties cramped
and compact,neither temperate,
changeable and in exact.
Seasons merging into one,
winters' mild,summers
of sometime sun.
Ancient,historic and
quaintly modern,
pub-grub,village greens
and cricket squares sodden.
MY ENGLAND who gifted a WORLD a languge
Cars line the curb - last hurrahs,
the last of pseudo praises,
or as Mom would say in the midst of a eulogy
"Do I know this person"?
Praises never thought of
while life strode so proudly blind.
As the bumble bounces on the hydrangea,
sadly, other blossoms are forgotten
while the most proud was overappreciated.
How many days/years until
my blossom is forgotten - left to pink
and wither in winter's shadow
then pale and blown away
before spring knows it's missing
...or even cares.
I'd much rather a fist raised in anger
and celebration "The bastard's finally dead!"
- Not a whisper when parting,
"You got a tee time for Monday?"
The cars line the curb, yet will they leave
simply thankful they came "for the family"
or will they give a damn … pause and say
"I will miss him".
now there are no battle of wills
now there are no feeble attempts to spotlight and emphasize
now there are no empty benefits that result in crystalline nothingness
now there is just us....pure and simple....back to cool via the agreement
we now take it light and watch the nightingale go crazy until death kicks down his door
we now wait to take flight for a few last hurrahs before we amicably part ways
the rain has now come yet so we kiss the unseen rainbow and return back to golden
the rain has not come yet so we have a few laughs while preparing ourselves secretly in our respective minds
now there are no accusations and unneeded advice
now there are no pillows thrown on the doghouse sofa for the effect of showing power
now there are no second chances left for we will soon pack our bookmarks and exit....stage right....
~AN AUDIENCE OF ONE~
Stop knocking yourself out, writing for applause!
You only need in your audience, the smles from
The Almighty One!
So though the warm hurrahs from humans are great,
God, not a Muse, blessed you with the gift of poetry.
And in the final end, He is the only one, you must satiate!

saluting their short stay

The day’s a little chilly
(This touch of autumn rocks!)
Yet I will not capitulate
By putting on some socks.
The sun is brightly shining,
But on my bedroom floor
My sandals wonder why they haven’t
Made it out the door.
Though technically, it’s summer,
The temps did make me choose
A pair of canvas loafers
As today’s best pair of shoes.
Yet still, I’m just not ready
For my ankles to retreat.
They’ll enjoy some last hurrahs,
A celebration of de-feet!
