A Trio of Whiteness

The One Lilies were lifting white faces up to the sun. I gazed up at him as he leaned down to kiss me. . . He - a white knight - was the one. White - A Love Story White was the blanket on which we lay under the clouds of that warm April day. White were the lilies perfuming the air. How happy was I - my white knight was there. Summer arrived; on sand gleaming white we lay in the sun and kissed until night. White was the gold of the ring that I wore and bright like the love of the one I adored. White was the dress I carefully chose for our special day, and white was the rose he placed on our bed, its sheets - white as milk - were smooth like his skin and woven in silk. White was the snow our first Christmas day before all the whiteness got swept away! In the dark casket, his face seemed so pale as I bent to kiss my true love farewell. At My White Knight’s Grave into stone cold ground his black casket was lowered. . . snow fell all around tanka/rhyme/senryu Inspired by Anthony Slauson's Whiteness Poetry Contest

Late Evening Sunshine

Your gentle gestures ...
soft velvet words
made me open my hard shell
You said you weren’t looking for love,
but you stumbled upon it anyway
and fell
For so very long,
I hid within my thoughts
Too afraid to venture out and find
someone who had a kindred spirit
like mine
Instead, I shut the door to my heart,
closed the curtains
and lowered the blind
It was starting to get late,
the light of hope was beginning to fade
And in the late evening,
at the falling of the last rays
You passed by like a butterfly,
and floated a hello my way
Got swept away on a breeze of love,
basking in your late evening sunshine
You made me open the door to my heart,
open the curtains
and raise the blind
I felt the warmth on my skin
of a late evening brilliant lumenescence
I felt it deep within,
the heat of your late evening sunshine
You said you weren’t looking for love,
but in the fading light
that’s what you did find

STD

Death wore a glamorous mask,
death wore a beautiful dress
Death gave him one night of pleasure,
death gave him an empty sex life full of regret

When he met her, she was the life of the party
Promiscuous and bewitchingly fly
Had men and women flocking all around her,
but those pretty birds weren't on the menu that night
She was a tigress in the club jungle,
feline with one painted striped eye
He didn't know he was her prey,
that death on high heels had chosen him to die
She stalked him, then caught him on the dance floor
Whispered seductive things in his ear
She said her name was Chimera,
and she offered carnal desires most men couldn't ignore
He got swept up in the heat of passion,
then led away to her private hotel lair
She urged him to come inside her,
and coaxed him to scream her name
She said she wanted him to remember that night,
because he would never see her again

Death wore a deadly disguise that night,
death came in the form of a femme fatale
Death brought him a lifetime of pain,
once he laid down on that bed straight from hell

Nine Lives

I struck out on my own around a year old
life was so full of fun, so many things with
which to play, a leaf scuttling by, a rustle
in the undergrowth. I was enthralled.

I stood on a road watching intently
a little mouse. A car shot past bowling
me over and slicing off half of my tail.
It stung like hell and dripped blood.

Finding a cool stream I placed my tail
within, oh the blessed relief I knew
I had been lucky, one life now done.

My next life also flashed by as
hunter became prey, I ran for
my life from a pack of hungry
wolves barely escaping their
razor sharp fangs and hot breath.

Fishing for salmon I ventured
in too deep and got swept away
tumbling through rapids, banging
into rocks lucky to be washed ashore.

Bedraggled I lie in the sun
I swallowed way more water
than I drink in two days.
Shivering as I dry off.

Maybe four is the charm
as now I am much wiser.
Oh no I followed my nose
to an enticing exciting smell.

It led me straight into a mire
churned up by rooting pigs
I was being sucked down
exhausted I finally lay still.

Well a miracle happened
the muddy slime released
its deathly grip and I was
able to slowly wriggle free.

What a state my fur was in
muddy slime all over me
only one thing to do and
that's take a hated bath.

As I rolled in the shallows
I felt a change in pressure
and ran for my life chased
by angry snapping jaws.

Piranhas I had disturbed
Nearly ripped to shreds
I slipped away to rest up.

Unfortunately as I drifted
off I started getting stung
I was under attack from
angry bees I was lying
right over their hive.

Fast as a streak I headed
yet again for the river
and dunked myself again
and again till they were gone.

Seven lives already used up
and I was still only three years.
A few years past uneventfully
I am getting the hang of things.

One dark stormy night
sheltering in a leafy tree.
It got hit by lightning
knocking me to the ground.

Fur still burning I looked
a real fright, a cartoon cat
with hair on end whilst all
I really wanted was a quiet life.

Well I have used up eight
of my nine. I now mainly
sleep my days away. The
urge of adventure quietly rests.

My day will come soon
now as age takes its toll.
I am stiff and nearly blind
so I lay down a final time.

What does it take to be a disciple

Father Christ Jesus listeners often got swept by His charismatic manner
Blurted their intention to follow Him
That does not mean they were ready to be true disciples of Father Christ Jesus
In this Gospel story
A man wanted to follow Father Christ but was deflated (let down) when Father Christ pointed out that He had no home
His followers would have none of the things considered necessary for a happy life
Following Jesus or Father Christ wouldn’t always be comfortable and that thought turned many away
For the second man in the story
The timing wasn’t right
He wanted to fulfill his duty to his dying father before setting out with Father Christ Jesus sets the agenda
Our duty is to obey Father Christ Jesus knew that looking back while plowing can ruin the job
He used that example to help the third man that we need to have a singleness of purpose to His disciple
We still have to make sacrifices to follow Father Christ Jesus
But He promises that the rewards will be worth much more

Sapling

I am but a tiny sapling
Growing on the side of the mountain
Freshly breaking new ground, hopeful for the warm embrace of the eastern sun
At first I was a seedling that rode from the western winds of a hurricane
My face dripped from Sea Breeze, like tears of joy
I got swept away, I flew
Higher than Hot Air Balloons
That are gigantic floating Chinese lanterns whose mouths are fuelled by a tongues ablaze
Incinerating
I Ride on the backs of Geese
Their steel like apparatus wings catches the prevailing winds
I nestle myself amongst the bed of sweet grasses
I lay awake at night listening to the howling wolves
Who cry for their unrequited lovers, they are four legged Shakespearean Artists.
I feel the cool trickle of the neighbor Glacier Lake that nourishes me, what the perfect welcoming
committee
I am but a tiny sapling
Growing on the side of a mountain
Watch in awe as I grow magnificiently

Since you been gone

By the bank of a meandering stream
underneath the weeping willow tree,
Recall the endearing days of our dream
like the wily wind, whimsical and free.

Then the dark clouds rolled over our sky
In the pouring rains you got swept away,
The shrubs and the bushes knew not why
where and in whose arms you quietly lay.

Scouring the skies with the footloose moon,
Deep in the woods, across shimmering sea,
Oh, my forlorn heart vows to find you soon
lest falling prey to cruel time you forget me.

Waiting by the stream your name I often call
wailing underneath this weeping willow tree
all seasons, winter, spring, summer and fall,
From this dire fate do come and set me free.

Pursue

Pursuing

(Verse 1)
I've been running
Running to you
But was I really running
To someone who didn't want to pursue
You said you liked me
You said you cared
But in my darkest hours
You were never there
You just said what I wanted to hear
That's not what I need
I need someone who loves me for me
Tell me what's a girl to do
When she is rushing to be pursued

(Chorus)
Take your time, just wait
You don't want to make a mistake(mistake)
Being with someone just because
That's not what you've dreamed of
Its OK to be you
But no matter what you do (you do)
Don't just rush to be pursued

(Verse 2)
What's the definition of a mate
They help you balance your plate
They add that charm
To your day
A bright smile you'll display
Picking out the small things
What a joy it brings
To know that you, have something so pure and true
Its your time , you've waited
Got swept off your feet its an understatement
The feeling you feel makes you
Know how it feels to be pursued

Chorus)
Take your time, just wait
You don't want to make a mistake(mistake)
Being with someone just because
That's not what you've dreamed of
Its OK to be you
But no matter what you do (you do)
Don't just rush to be pursued

(Hook)
Its OK, to have feelings
Let it be with someone
Who wants more than just dealings
Its OK , to have feelings
Let it be with someone
Who wants more than just dealings

Chorus)
Take your time, just wait
You don't want to make a mistake(mistake)
Being with someone just because
That's not what you've dreamed of
Its OK to be you
But no matter what you do (you do)
Don't just rush to be pursued

Repeat until chorus fades

My love

In my dream I met
A young lady in fret
Immediately I had a desire
Like a moth drawn to fire

For she did need a hero though
To save her from life’s woe’s
Such beauty I have never seen
Not even in any other dream

BUT THEN I got swept away
From life’s woes who led me astray
I longed for you both day and night
“Angel from God” so bright

It seem now that I’m in need
To be saved from these woes-take heed!
Will I ever wake
from this heavenly-hell state?

Who is this in the far I see?
It is you! Am I free?
At last you came for me
As if sent from Thee

Suddenly I’m awake
Was this all fake?

But who is this next to me
my beautiful wife sent from Thee
My life with you is no dream
and your name now I know, Corine

Who would’ve known in her so sweet
When I kissed those little feet
Was our beautiful baby girl
Her skin as white as pearl

SUNRISE

As I beheld the lovely sunrise
It was like viewing a beautiful surprise

It was so mesmerizing and captivating
And utterly breathtaking

I got swept up in it's beauty
As though it was my duty

I didn't want the moment to end
It was a great start to my weekend

My First Love

The first time I saw him I was smitten,
       he wore black leather;
             and in nice weather.
That day our destiny was written,
          my heart he held tight;
                  all through that long night.
       I was a captive to his stare hypnotic;
it was sensual, surreal and erotic.

Oh, how he broke this . . . girl.

I was innocent and he, my first love,
       and I got swept up;
            drinking from his cup.
He was the restless hawk and I, the dove,
          his voice my haven:
                  his hair so raven.
I did not see that I had lost all my friends:
and family- and on him my life depends.

Oh, how he broke this . . . girl.

His kisses could be sweet and turn cruel,
       and often they hurt;
            and I felt like dirt.
He was the king and I was his jewel,
            yet, his words held me;
               but my soul said flee.
I needed to abandon this dreadful hell,
               this deep chasm I was in like a jail cell;
I did- yet a piece of him will always dwell.

oh, how he broke this girl,

but could not break this . . . pearl.

Scorpions in the Farm

A farmer stocked in his farm
scorpions to serve him as guards
snakes to give him critical news
black ants to patrol the farmland

Moles he brought as cultivators
locusts to harvest the ripe crops
trusted rats to store the harvests
butterflies to oversee activities

Every creature was industrious
but an enemy appeared suddenly
hurricane came from the high seas
scorpions and all were swept away

Farmer trusted powers he planted
but everything got swept with him

The Pebble

Millennia ago it started as a rock
that was about the size of a fist.
It got swept to the edge lodging
against two mighty bounders.

Staying there for a century or two
it was finally small enough to escape.
Tumbling down the face of the fall
it landed at its shingle coated base.

For many years at least five hundred
it was tossed and rolled and polished.
Now the size and shape of an egg
it glistened and sparkled in sunlight.

Finally washed out it headed seaward
coming to rest on a sandy beach.
Where it was found and treasured
by a child who saw its magic and lore.

FYI Talking 'bout you, Reverb

Think, your rhymes are quick and rapid No record, on the wall? Aah! Snap, it went placid Tell’n me all how, you did this and that, rat a tat tat but it doesn’t matter, coz when it hits the fan, you are shattered Your rap's are just RIP’s, while tryn to give your cousin’s, the slip
You ain't lived the Dozens and my roots, aint under your whip While your mind's a buzzin, you want respect, show me your intellect Not how many, brother’s and sister’s you done rekt Your eyes roll on fleek, coz now you lost the beat Let me, slo-mo matrix’s style and then repeat It’s not bullet time, so just chill and don’t take the pills The drugs-n-thugs, got swept under the rug, need a refill? Thinking, you’re off the hook , read a book! Absurd, you think but in word, you’re just a reverb

blinded

I'm sorry for the tears that miserably crawled down your
face,I would have loved to taken you to a better place.I
really think you enjoyed the pain,if given the chance
you'd put the sun out with the rain.you were like a
tornado sucking up everthing in your path, even the ones
who truly loved you got swept up in your wrath.now your
gone for you won't worry about tomorrow, you didn't care
who you left behind no room for sorrow.my tears for you
were more out of anger because I was a friend and you
was a stranger.I think that even if you were brought back
from the grave, you'd still be one of those people that you
just can't save.now I have another scar to wear upon my
heart, you only had two ends of madness you were never
given a start.maybe now the angels will wipe the tears
from your face,I'm sorry hope your in a better place

sorrow all way along

Stay forever
in there, till death
cause you don’t have
a choice in heft.

For all the times
being alone in line,
nothing has changed
and nothing will.

Every-time
i try to smile,
trouble is the one
who is willing to be by haste.

It is
forever like this,
nothing the way
i really wanna sway.

The chaos in my head
is making me shed
the last hope lived at
and my very last breath.

It’s hard and hard
what karma had taught,
but enough was enough
because that was making me dead.

Deep and deep
those words got swept.
Into my heart
and never out of my brain.

I cried and cried
for all the reasons
till i am FROZEN,
but nothing’s gonna change.

You’ll never know
how much i am hurt
cause no one else can fake
a smile better than i do.

you will never know
the fright i had,
the broken pieces of my heart
and a million things unseen.
