The Butterfly Flutters By

On a steamy, sun-drenched, summer Sunday,
tree leaves delightfully dancing to the tune of
a warm, welcoming, wandering breeze blowing,
metamorphosis now complete,
no memory of being yesterday’s creeping caterpillar,
the butterfly flutters by.

Blatantly, brazenly, boastfully,
showing off beautiful, brilliant, blue-black and brown wings,
gracefully gliding through a breathtaking, glorious garden,
the butterfly shyly pitches from blushing,
boldly-colored, buds to fragrant flowers,
cunningly outmaneuvering a competing, hovering hummingbird.

Slyly snatching a satisfying taste of tantalizing, syrupy sweet nectar
from attention-craving, Golden Flame Honeysuckle vines,
the butterfly flutters by
cheerfully and completely satiated -
perhaps, already dreaming about
tomorrow’s anticipated sugary feast!

Deep and deliberate
The voice of a soul
Who’s circled
At the gates
Of hell
Come back
Loaded with
A message
To set things right

I’d recognize
His voice
Anywhere
Bluesy
Sultry
Seductive
Intoxicating
Shout out
To my very core
Call out
To my very soul

Transfixed
Quivering
I’m a captive
Hummingbird

It’s not the words
He says
Or those he doesn’t
It’s the music
The delivery
How it emanates
From depths within
Resonates
Beneath my skin

Baring his soul
A vulnerability
Unlike any
I’ve ever seen
Whispering
Mercilessly
Strumming
At my heart

His hot breath
At the nape
Of my neck
Kissed and
Caressed
Blissfully
Given
Possessed
And spent
Tears that cry
To be set free
Feeling mellow
Transported
On a cosmic journey
Clinging to his wing
Bringing me to
Heaven’s gate

As I stand on the shore of lake Huron in Ontario, Canada
Marveling at all the beauty with autumn at her peek
I see what I assume a flying leaf upon a cool breeze
Until it lands upon my hand and folds its wings
Velvet orange, striped with black, edged with dots of white
I watch in awe as that Monarch butterfly once again takes flight

Four times it had to shed its skin to pick itself up off the ground
A caterpillar that stole away in a chrysalis until its truth was found
Four generations would come and go before its final stage
A journey over land and sea, two thousand miles of flight
To a mountain range in Mexico ... its final destiny where it would
Join …millions and millions of other monarch butterflies
that somehow against all odds survived…

A miracle is what I see each time a Monarch butterfly, flutters by.

I Have Flutters-Eight Word Challenge

Can you see those waves out there upon the water wafting
The wind clashing across the water whispers the sound of silence
With this moonlit night the stars are glowing across the water waves
Do you think perchance I may hold your hand while we stand on shore
My heart had flutters as she reached for my hand and her eyes sparkling
My mind was racing thinking of folly when she looked into my eyes
I was getting a little dank underneath my arms from the heat of her body
I tried to daub it when she was not looking an embarrassment I must say
Happenstances may have been worse for the rain started to fall
We had decided that it would be best to go into my cabin for the rest

     Stripped of friends and family
        she lives in squalor’s misery

     The tiny tenement room
        bespeaks her gloom and doom

     Yet when Friday evening arrives
        her heart flutters, comes alive

      Ignited by kindling Sabbath lights
her face aglow throughout the night

Just when the weight on my shoulders feels heaviest;
Just when my world of problems is making me cry;
Just when the crazies around me are at their craziest …
… the butterfly flutters by.

Just when I reach the end of the rope I hang onto;
Just when I am ready to ask the Good Lord, “Why?”;
Just when my head is about to split in two …
… the butterfly flutters by.

And suddenly, the weight is less heavy;
No tears do I need to cry;
The crazies regain their sanity …
… and the butterfly winks an eye.

The rope is my salvation;
The Good Lord gives His reply;
My head is in one piece again
… sing praise to the butterfly.

In her cocoon she sleeps safe and warm
waiting for the day her wings are born.
Tender hearted with dreams of flying high
and for the day when everyone will notice
the pretty little butterfly that flutters by.

Strong and brave she will grace the sky
in hues of blue and sunny yellow glistening
in her eyes. Time is short but she will share
with every perfectly designed wing, she'll bring to
those who see, all her love for life and care.

Touch her not and un-dust her wings for her
fluttering brings stories ones mind can not see.
Listen close to her wings for within the sound
lies the story of the butterfly who's beauty
astounds.

The misty, morning, dew upon the rose, waits for her
kiss of pleasure that only the rose will ever know.
Her feet have been blessed by heaven abound to never
have to touch the ground.

Sit silently and watch and see, you will hear and see the
sweetest of melodies, dancing in the sky as the
butterfly flutters by.

The butterfly flutters by—
It’s the symbol of our Company.
That logo’s on my bus so high,
Where clients ride so comfortably.
That noted fluttering butterfly
Is a noble Pacific Monarch;
You can sometimes see it cruising by
The Monterey Peninsula, light or dark.
You’ll see my bus parked by fine hotels,
Classy wineries, the Monterey Aquarium,
Beneath the Carmel Mission bells,
Or in Pebble for the A. T. and T. Pro-Am.
The butterfly flutters by—
And in case you didn’t know it,
The driver that waves as he flies by
Also happens to be this poet.*

*The driver has been working part time since 2007 for
Pacific Monarch Ltd., which is headquartered in Marina,
California. The buses are navy blue with a white butterfly
logo. The author has written many songs and poems
while waiting in his bus between runs.

Butterfly flutters by and glorious time stands still
life springs forth and joy leaps to overfill
A beauty sent to bring heavenly and great delight
like the glory of moon and stars on a clear night

Flashes of vibrant rainbows pass into the magic scene
pureness, life emerging in a passing so serene
Pushing away all thoughts of trouble, pain and despair
fluttering all about while landing here and there

Winged eye pleasing music as butterfly flies so well
raining colors that forever last without fail
A pass, a solo and a double circle around my head
soothing as a sweet dream resting in my old bed

Butterfly flutters by , sun and flowers deeply sigh
Nature's finest art floating in scenic sky
Outshines their glory as it shows it's blessed gifts
a flash of paradise proudly dancing that so uplifts

Premium Member Beneath the thin veil of humanity, where the heart flutters like a trapped butterfly

Beneath the thin veil of humanity, where the heart flutters like a trapped butterfly,
Lies the stir of an ancestral cruelty, a seed deeply buried,
In the soil watered by the tears of compassion and the silent blood of struggle,
We are sculpted from the duality of nature, where claw and caress coexist,
Each breath a battle between light and darkness, between love and harshness,
In a perpetual dance of survival, where nature sings its wild anthem,
We hold hands with the beasts, learning lessons from their claws and sharp gaze,
For to live means to embrace the shadow, to accept that we are woven from contradictions,
Not to become poorer than nature, but to learn balance from the rustle of the forest,
Where each falling leaf and each bird's cry are parts of the same symphony.
We carve our path through the jungle of emotions with a heart beating in two rhythms,
Where compassion is a river flowing gently, but cruelty is the rock that breaks the waves,
And perhaps, in this imperfection, we find the truth of a full existence,
For to be only gentle would mean to lose ourselves in the mire of passivity,
While cruelty teaches us to rise, to defend our dreams with sharp fangs,
Just as nature protects its children with a silent, unwavering fury, like a sea in storm,
Let us not fear the dark side, but carry it as a banner of survival,
A balance between the desire to protect and the need to fight, a dance of destiny,
In which we find ourselves whole, not poorer, but richer in the understanding of life,
A complex song of humanity, where each note is a part of us,
Weaving cruelty and compassion into a poem without end, yet full of meaning.
