Best Fireman Poems
Dragon went to the mailbox this morn,
And he came excitedly flying back, yes, toward the house…
So Now, you should… be doubly, doubly, doubly forewarned.
Yep! Now, you GOTTA know… We’re in for a LOT of ensuing chaos!
Yes, He had a letter addressed to him…
With a smile on his face and a letter in his hand…
And what, you ask, had him wearing, such bubbly, bubbly, bubbly grin?
He’s going, this year, to the Fireman Competition, and held the invite so grand!
By Now, you must know, such excitement, so fine…
As usual, made his fire to run, run, run… onto the letter in hand…
And that Date, and the Time? You know, that fire? Well… never mind!
Thought this would slow Dragon? No way! He’s ready, now, for that Laurel Strand.
He flew to the Firehouse, lickety- split…
Crashing into the fire truck, giving it a broken axel and 4 tires flat, flat, flat!
Leaving his head, stuck, solidly, through the window, into the trucks cockpit…
Fortunately, out ran the fire chief, to organize the rescue, of our little dingbat…
When NOTHING ELSE would work, all the firemen…
Put their feet on the door, grabbing Dragon, and they pulled, pulled, pulled!
Finally, it took old Grandpa Troll to pull his head out, by taking the door off…
And then breaking the door apart! My! What a day, I must say, THIS had been!
Then next week’s competition was explained…
As a Charity Event to enhance and outfit their old faithful fire truck!
Now a little rescue practice will never, never, ever… it’s ascertained…
Ever be turned down! And Oh My! And Oh Well! What’s that truck worth?
That is… compared to our klutzy, little clown…
Grandpa Troll donated repairs as Dragon worked it off, day after day, after day.
My Moral is: If great you will be, then mistakes will be made along the way…
As you walk to your destiny, don’t despair; just keep going to your brighter days…

I'm so sorry to leave you dear, hard to say good bye to one so new,
The nine months and few hours in my arms held, are far as I can go.
Your fireman guardian angel will protect and find a home for you.
I must let go tiny fingers born in pain of child birth as you withdrew,
And sure my brown eyed girl will find a family with love to grow.
I'm so sorry to leave you dear, hard to say good bye to one so new.
Away now I must go, from new born dappled in soft rosy hue,
I pray they will be kind and bring a joy I'll never know.
Your fireman guardian angel will protect and find a home for you.
The station door now lit, no longer hides my tears from view,
Though fragile life started off in painful plan only God could bestow.
I'm so sorry to leave you dear, hard to say good bye to one so new.
The days go by slowly in whispered memory of winds that coldly blew,
and sound of a child's cries, left bereft, a bitter pill to swallow.
Your fireman guardian angel will protect and find a home for you.
I saw you once again on TV with your loving parents who adopted two.
So wonderful they call you Naomi, though loss seemed only a moment ago.
I'm so sorry to leave you dear, hard to say good bye to one so new,
Your fireman guardian angel will protect and find a home for you.
Limerick : Once a fine Fireman on night shift
Once a fine Fireman on night shift
Called home to check if wife was adrift
Called alarm post number
Rushed home helter-skelter
Found his wife on fire doused in the rift.

Fireman, Fireman Help Me Quick
By Elton Camp
An old lady called the fire department to say
“Please hurry over to my house right away.”
To save her, the dispatcher then does strive
“M’am, get out of your house till we arrive.”
He imagined the flames licking at her heels
So for speed the dispatcher firmly appeals
“I know, for you, this may be extremely hard,
But leave everything and go out into the yard.”
“There’s no reason I should do a thing like that.
I’d take care of it myself except I’m old and fat.”
Despite how hard to reason with her he did strive,
She insisted she’d sit on the couch till they arrive
“Hurry, fellows, and get the fire truck on the move.
Even seconds of delay may a disaster come to prove.
A poor, senile old woman is in a most terrible plight
But if you hurry, perhaps you can still make it right.”
The fire truck raced down the road to save the day
Speeding and running traffic lights, come what may
An ambulance was roaring along, very close behind
Paramedics apprehensive at what they would find
When in her driveway the vehicles skidded to a halt
Coming out the front door was the woman they sought
“Well, you boys surely took long enough to get here.
By now, my cat up in the tree is shaking with fear.”
Now my dear Mr Fireman
Let's be very clear
We neither one of us
Really wants to be here
Now I know it's my fault
That I cannot deny
But I can explain
If you please let me try
I thought I would fit
It was just such bad luck
I had no idea
I was going to get stuck
And please understand
That before you were phoned
I tried hard as I could
To get out on my own
I've been pushed, I've been pulled
I've been twisted around
I've been shook like a snow-globe
And tipped upside down
Buy try though I have
Not one of these things
Was enough to dislodge me
From the seat of this swing
I know it's for kids
And I know that its true
That climbing inside
Was a daft thing to do
But I couldn't resist it
The challenge was there
I'm sure we've all done
Silly things for a dare
So please don't be angry
That's all I can say
I can promise I've already
Learned my lesson today
Our firemen will always put their lives on the line.
It doesn't matter who for, whether it's your life or mine.
Most people would never give any thought to saving a dog's life.
But to this fireman it was like saving someones wife.
The picture shows the thankfulness in this poor mama's eye.
She knew without this man's help her puppies would die.
You can just see the bond this tragic fire did start.
Between one thankful dog, and one fireman's big heart.
There's a bond there that no one else will ever have shared.
Be it just for the fact that one fireman showed that he cared.
Nothing else in this world show's a dog's thankfulness.
Then coming up to your face and giving you a big kiss.
Fireman Jim felt morose and grim
He could not put out a fire
He lost his hose
So Jim foreclosed
As he no longer had the desire
The firelight danced in patterns;
Upon the faded wall.
As the old man sat and listened
To the mournful night-birds call.
On the floor there with his puppy,
Sat Jackie oh so dear;
"Grandpa what are heroes made of"?
He asked as he drew near.
"Are they made like other men?
Of blood and skin and bone?"
Do they cry when they're afraid?
And pray when they're alone?
The old man paused a moment;
There were visions in his head;
Of fires and guns and metal:
And friends who'd long been dead.
Of the stairs there in the tower;
And when the planes came down.
And that kid there with the baby;
Alone at night downtown.
He picked up little Jackie;
And sat him on his knee;
"A Hero's just there trying;
To be what he has to be."
"Protecting what is precious;
Doing what he must,
For those who really need him;
He cannot betray their trust."
A sleepy boy that evening,
Dozed on his Grandpa's chest.
And the Hero there to guard him,
Was one of the very best."
A fireman named Fred
was happy in his marriage but sad
He had no children and would have been glad
if someone just called him dad
A boy came around named Ken
whose one desire was to be a fireman
The two became friends and when the boy turned ten
gifted with a fire hat by Fred happy on his bike he ran.
Soon came back frantic smoked red
a house was on fire he said
With two boys on first level in bed
three on the upper that looked dead
Sounded the alarm on the truck with Fred
through the streets the fire trucks sped
From the fire were all saved except Ken
on the ground laid lifeless the boy fireman
Choking their tears were all looking at him when
turning to Fred: I am your Angel said Ken
As he vanished was heard by no other fireman
except by Fred who believes he'll meet in heaven his Ken.

Hey Mr. Fireman, save him but not her.
She’s mean and horrible, and she has a bee up her keister.
Which one? He asks me, pointing from one to the other.
Good grief! He cannot tell a man from a woman?
They cannot train firemen any better than that these days?
This is nuts!
The big one! I yelled. “Don’t save the big one!”
The big one was rescued unfortunately, and
Gave me the horrible algebra test I was hoping to get out of on Thursday.
A cop a fireman or a doctor the novice writer tried.
Been done someone countered quickly, and way too much gore.
Look at what people watch the confident writer replied.
It would have to will last a hundred episodes or more.
What about an action film? The newcomer suggested.
With chase scenes and car crashes, fast-pace
Lots of smart cops, and no one getting arrested
Adrenaline pumping, firemen joining the race.
What about throwing in a doctor who can solve a hard case?
The writer queried, knowing what the public would watch
Sounds pretty good the head writer said without a jeering face.
A cop, a doctor and a fireman, he had won with quiet grace.
The series was a hit, because it is what the most people seek.
Good guys helping the public, taking murderers off the street.
Doctors with brains figuring out clues when given a little peek.
A formula that has worked for centuries, one that cannot be beat.
Dr. Kildare, E.R., Blue Bloods, Gray’s Anatomy, the mightiest mights,
TV shows that obtain a following and keep interest loud and clear.
If you want to hold interest long enough to get syndication rights
Cops, doctors, and firemen. The formula is pretty nearly dear.
I'm not quite sure why
But I miss you
Now that you're gone
I only see the good
Your sweet smile,
With your cute little dimples
Your innocent eyes
that gazed at me with adoration
And how you'd hold me close
When you knew I was upset--
really truly upset
Do you remember that day
I drove all night just to see you
And when I wanted to cry
I was afraid to
But you proved me wrong
And you were there for me
It was the first time
I really knew you felt for me
For so long
I wouldn't open up to you
I held back my life from you
And then one day
When you stumbled upon my past
And I was cornered into talking
I was aftraid to
But you proved me wrong
And you were there for me
Listening to every word
It was the first time
I really opened up to you
You were great,
and still now, you are
truly a great person
A friend, a son, a brother
And in some way,
even a hero
But still, I'll always remember
Though I hardly think of it
I'll still recall
You were plenty times
Selfish
Arrogant
Inconsiderate
and uncaring
Always feeling the need to hide your feelings
Your thoughts
I understand you
Really, I do
You didn't have the greatest example
the greatest life
But it's no excuse for how you treated me
The thing is
I probably wouldn't have cared
I probably would've stayed with you
If I didn't like you so much
but I did
And even now, sometimes,
I think I still do
I hope that always,
Life will treat you well
And that in time, you'll be
The man I know you are inside
Nothing but have I upon this most
of auspicious moment to give
My total unreserved apologies and
resignation
Unto who whatsoever anybody
tuning white noise out would
surely listen
But a steadfast random collection
of nondescript desperado proclamation
And utterances unlike anything
other than a still drunk barfly
would spit and stutter over a
sticky counter
Without expecting anything else
but this as a retort or curt reply
and shouted at response
No 1 care's anymore we've heard
it all a thousand times plus before
So much so you have what is
less than zero credit in the bank
or credibility left
Why on earth don't you do everyone
including yourself a favor
Take a break go away take a good
hard look at yourself
And try your level best to refresh
this tired old act you have long
hard flogged to death
You find yourself having been
blessed a miracle somehow
within occurred
Then may I on this most auspicious
of occasion
Make this declaration to Yee the
members of the congregation
Only time itself in time will tell
If this was all merely means of
paying lip-service
Using elongated complex intellectual
word's in order to disguise
The stealth and insuring lack of
substance your stay of execution
allows
And normal service resumes and
you appear before us once again
As if you had never even been
away at all
Just gave us all a welcome earned
rest
Alone and afraid,
In the fire, I cried.
I was losing hope.
I could barely breathe.
How could I survive?
I prayed and prayed.
I yelled for help.
Is this the end?
How can this be?
Me, dying?
God, save me!
Send angel!
Fireman
appeared.
Yes!

Through the wind
and heat
he answered
the shrill call,
jumping
onto a red robin
firetruck
fast as light....
with ear piercing
sirens
a bright motion
of urgency
climbing the foothills
just to quench
the enemy
of an ocean
of wild flames.
