Best Descends Poems
A spent sun shimmies down a sanguine sky,
into the ebony blackness of space.
And birds roosting in trees no longer fly,
while a ghost moon rises to find its place;
smiling down on Earth with a friendly face.
Chameleon clouds, crimson, and cerise,
graze the horizon like woolly pink sheep.
And as ruby rays of sunlight decrease,
billions of stars awaken from their sleep;
while shape-shifting shadows stealthily creep.
Silhouettes merge, as dusk's darkness descends;
blurring the edges, where night's curtain drops.
And as the day's chatter silently ends
unveiled stars morph into backstage props:
and the show continues: it never stops.
A cricket's chirp announces the next act:
nocturnal players scurry to the stage.
And as moonbeams and fireflies interact,
owls and bats start flexing their wings backstage,
while the diurnal actors disengage.

The night falls in a heavy, suffocating cloak.
The light for which I lust for flares once,
Then dies, swallowed by the abyss.
All hope perishes,
My heart beats no more.
How could you not understand,
My dark thoughts surround me, crying.
Save me from myself.

Lamet!
is what she hears first
him, screaming her second name
as he descends upon her
no time to process
gravity
a thud, tearing her core to shavings
Maiweeeee! She is puzzled.
His baritone dropping the 'n'
agitation
a wooden scrabble.
Nothing is left between her
and Pee, not a grain
all’s crushed
smothering their screams
interlocking their groans.
He is a pawn, no saphead
giving it to her, a pounding
her splinters
putting him on like a glove
a blood-wood
fragments of his body all over her.
She, a Mortal
(he notes the ‘r’ replacement)
implodes in silence, his pain.
She is deep
no winnowing basket
Her pleas chaff going with the wind
consummating with eyes
but she, too dry to go gunky.
Left to recline in the tree shade, heaves
silent sighs among groundnut sheaves
“You know I l-o-v-e you,”
“Yet it spells p-a-i-n, right?”
“We are just pieces of a g-a-m-e dear,”
he sighs rolling onto his back.

Blue morphs into a misty grey
within twilight's surreal light.
And dusk dissolves daylight away,
shading silhouettes inked by night.
Scarlet rivers flowing blood-red,
spill over the horizon's edge.
And as a crimson sky gets bled,
vermilion tints the mountain ledge.
Day acquiesces to the night
as darkness descends on the earth.
And stealthily slips out of sight,
preparing for the sun's rebirth.
A liquid moon pools high above
a fledgling firefly's flashing flight.
And beaming down on hearts in love
ignites passion's flame with its light.

In one quick flash, while humankind rests
poisoned rain devours, seething like burnt fume...
that all the world like raged Babylon screams
when Fourth Horseman, on a knifed eve, descends
shrouded by darkness, rider now earthbound
collapsing stars and trees on ghastly stead,
lungs haemorrhage in terror of night’s tide
found in Revelations once prophesized...
hoofs trample burnt flesh , spiked by death’s revenge
a time destined...a quest for greedy blood
that in roar of voices, church bells freeze tolls.
Divine One looks at His creatures, pleas from souls;
Mad horseman gallops away as Light spins
unto earth, promise of fresh beginnings.

Burning eyes in the darkest night; sear through the moonlights rays.
In the distance, a mournful howling; cracks the air, in two.
Transformation complete; the quickening carnivore descends!

indigo sky
now tells my soul
goodbye the day
stars twinkle bright
as twilight falls
the night creeps in
twilight descends
as night lends voice
it mends my soul

As night descends
God's paintbrush colours the night sky.
As night descends
purple, pink and violet blends.
An artist's mural floating by.
Beauty to bring tears to the eye,
as night descends.

Darkness Descends
The Prince of Darkness beckons, as you slowly suffocate...
And demons devour and await, you’re sacrificial screaming soul...
The crow caws amidst the noxious nilpotent night,
Perched upon tombstones that drip with blood and pain...
Barren breaths amongst the ambient anguish of the lachrymal lost,
The air stale with corpses laid and tossed in oblivion...
In their decay, the stench of decomposing death clutches at your throat.
A fecal float you fade to black before the Horsemen...
Prepare for their final attack, in your lingering lonely lament,
Shadow soldiers sent for your demise...you bow and accept.
The crow flaps its wings...and as you try to escape you feel the stings of the anchored and abandoned...
Servants of sorrow your only friends,
For thus the Darkness extends beyond space and time...

I watch as white falls from the heights
Where clouds of grey control the sky
The ground below no longer dry
As snow descends into our sights
The April air no longer warm
For winter rears it's blizzard head
The grip of spring for now is shed
As snow descends upon the farm
Within an hour the ground is gone
Three inches fallen but stills comes more
What once was green now a white floor
As snow descends long after dawn
The hours pass and snowing still
The city comes to screeching halt
For ice now coats all the asphalt
As snow descends upon the hills
A foot of snow as day turns night
And finally now the snow slows down
A silent white is to be found
As snow descends no more tonight
Plows are out and shovels in hand
A breath of life the new day brings
The people out to do their things
As snow descends upon new lands

As the sun slowly sets beneath the horizon
the world starts to turn to night's darkness
the shadows gradually lengthen then fade
and a stillness covers the land with mystery
This is the time for the creatures of night
the badgers sniff the air before leaving their sett
then come tumbling out to play in moonlit glade
while the adults set of to do their foraging
The wise owls sit in tall trees their heads twisting
as they filter the sounds of small rustles and squeaks
then do, on silent wings glide and hit with deadly strike
carrying their offerings back to their hungry fledglings
The wolf sets off on his nightly quest hunting for prey
if the moon is full he will climb up high and sing to it
then just a grey shadow as through the undergrowth
he slips, then belly down as he creeps closer and kills
Now it is time for other less salubrious creatures
the ones that haunt our dreams and disturb our sleep
for unmentionable things to walk the night time trails
now is their time to catch an unwary soul who lingered
Secrets hidden in the dark a grave or two lie unmarked
a deadly silence now hangs and people scuttle home
tuck themselves up safe indoors to await the sun's return
the darkness fades and the sun once more comes out to play

Onyx cloak
of sunny day's baroque
lay velvet on the breast of each day,
gently caress each curvaceous earthly display
with night tones of diamond stars, a queen's array.
Diamonds of champagne sing amends
to onyx night.. as friends
dark descends.

As night descends, the heavens celebrate,
The birth of stars
Through the tossing trees,
They send down their toothless smiles
The Moon too smiles with glee,
Like a pleased mother.
The Earth in darkness,
Looking at the illumined sky,
Follows suit and lights up
Street lamps open their eyes,
Flooding the cobalt streets.
Neon bulbs blink from hidden homes
Car lights dazzle like lightning
Glow worms, like night sentries,
Parade round with mini torches
The roads ring with the sound of returning feet
Fairies roam round for their nightly gambols
Day laborers coil lazily to rest
Letting their barbed distractions melt slowly away
The dead in their sepulchers sleep peaceful!
Among the muted murmurs,
The cicadas’ sounds alone swell.
This is the time for life and strife
To lay their heads pillowed for serene sleep
Under the blanket of a dim lit night!
