Darkness Descends

The night falls in a heavy, suffocating cloak.
The light for which I lust for flares once,
Then dies, swallowed by the abyss.
All hope perishes,
My heart beats no more.
How could you not understand,
My dark thoughts surround me, crying.
Save me from myself.

You have very vividly described the terror of the night. Well worded, good poem. Welcome to PoetrySoup :)
