Best Dead Meat Poems
Memory or dream from hell I cannot tell
The vision of stygian forests where harpies dwell
And men from them among men spawned
Greedy gullibles that on pagan mysteries fawned
Evicted from stygian caves to wander bared
Of human comport and yet in human shape
By cultures of war in Cerebus’ loath prepared
These monsters of men defy, steal, kill, rape
The African land still, and virgin virtue defiled
In all her children stolen, manacled, despised
Toss upon dread waves like dead meat, disguised
From pity of sharks, innocence, kindness biled
By the same fiends frantic at the Judean cross
And this colonial evil is unsurpassed in dross.
They should have known such deeds are wrong
If they had known we are people too, and he
The Eternal light, the bringer of the griot's song
How they murdered him in grim glee of prophecy:
When each of us are enslaved or kill, he dies
Again in that wickedness entrenched in vanities.
(If you know the song, Winter Wonderland,
try singing the words of this to that tune!)
Zombies move, but seem vapid,
and their walk is not rapid.
But they love to eat;
If caught, you’re dead meat
living in a crazy Zombie world.
Zombies groan, for they’re lusting
for live flesh, so disgusting.
To let one get near
you’ll understand fear
living in a crazy Zombie world.
If you’re bitten, you will get a fever.
Maybe you’ll appear as if you’re dead.
But if you don’t relish being stinky,
just have your buddies shoot you in the head!
Form a group; find good shelter.
Everything’s helter skelter.
You have to be smart
and have a brave heart
living in a crazy Zombie world.

I hear Africa weeping
gnashing her teeth in cold
but custodians sit in glory
Cows mooing
bulls bellowing
trees whistling
wind blowing dust in eyes
land cracking and dusty
insects invading crops
women labor in vain
children- new market goats afar
young- girls cakes of pleasure
water migrating to the heavens
but custodians sit in glory
Tell me, weeping Africa
what went wrong?
two generations after Uhuru
Africa telephones heaven, no network
Is Africa blacklisted by God?
Tell me weeping Africa
why do custodians sit in glory,
citizens eat dust
children orphaned
foxes feast on dead meat
why, why?
what went wrong?
LOVE FOR GREAT OR SMALL
Many eons ago, in minds far superior to ours
from a past Man never knew the earth became habitable
before the savage became Homo-sapiens
visitors had come from unknown worlds scouting earth for expansion
They carefully laid seeds of their DNA and planted green vegetation
returning several millennia later to sow their crops
the early laborers expressed love in the way they planted their crops
upon returning they saw earth had flourished
Mourn if you must for our present predicament
cry what we have become but our origins were borne out of Love
leave no unsavory emotion untouched all emotions have been earned
we must savor each emotion before we settle in our graves
"Stay brave," the space farmer said with affectation,
“Don’t become mindless dead meat enjoy the life you've been given
it'll be the only one you'll get, when you find a mate
love like you never loved before enough to last a millennia
and don't forget kindness, give your fellow humans much kindness"
Pundits and wise men have said it since Man could talk
there are no tomorrows in death
they also said death is temporary, souls are eternal
and experience of having lived before is not knowable
But care enough for someone at least once
and discover why love is so revered in the Universe
if you do not, you have lived a lonely, wasted life
and misused your life’s purpose and God's great gift of life to you
Nothing feels better to a person’s skin in winter
when the icy winds blow and snow scurries from nook to cranny
than body heat from both bodies cuddled, naked under warm blankets
it may bring forth ideas to commit to Love forever
Love is in abundance. just look around
yet Love is desperately needed but know there is someone for everyone
Love comes from the inner depths of one's heart
just don’t be so picky, experienced love has no equal
Love for all creatures, great and small, is desperately needed everywhere
nay demanded by the vast expanse
of this dark, cold and unwelcoming Universe
the place we call home.
Traffic Jam Slam
Who dresses them up and puts them in cars
gives them their keys as they leave the bars
these drivers who sit at the red light and grin
preachers out practicing Sunday’s big sin.
Somehow they think we can’t see inside
as they dig in their noses and ogle with pride
something they found that they should probably hide.
She’s putting on make-up, He’s combing his hair
the kids in the back seat wish they weren’t there.
As the light changes they make that left –SLASH
while plucking the last of their graying eyelash.
They’re texting at red lights so they tend to linger
and when you disturb them they give you the finger.
Then there are those who ride on their bikes
who haven’t matured since they fell off their trykes,
riding on sidewalks and running stop signs
dressing in outfits that require fines.
Who leaves the slow people alone on the street
stuck in the crosswalk – rush hour - dead meat.
Now we have turkeys and the Canada Goose
invading the country, just plain running loose
crossing the highways, honking at us
and if you should hit one – oh what a fuss
PETA will come with a camera and crew,
let the whole world get a good look at you.
So put on your make-up and straighten that hair
your fifteen minutes of fame is frighteningly near.

The Black Death
It came without warning, it swept through the town
One day you were up, the next day you’re down
It came to the poor, it came to the rich
You might feel the bite, you might feel the itch
It might kill the whole family, it might spare one or two
By the time you saw symptoms it was too late for you
You might live for days or a few weeks instead
You might feel good at breakfast and by dinner you’re dead
It came from the East and moved on to the coast
Then into the cities; the rats were the hosts
They traveled the Silk Road with the vast caravans
Their fleas were infected across Europe’s lands
And once in the cities, the rats stayed to feed
And the plague was soon spreading and spreading with speed
The bodies soon littered each alley and street
Till they carted them off like slabs of dead meat
They buried some bodies in a communal pit
Then burned their belongings to get rid of it
And then it was over; not as quick as it came
And the vast devastation had earned its sad name
MY AFRICA
A dusty street, commuters meet
A taxi crowded, a route decided
Street vendors sell, plastic from China
Fresh fruit, dead meat, flies from hell
A cellphone rings, a message pings
Africa, my Africa, I know so well
Populations swell, polluted wells
Children dying, old man crying
Nobody cares, everyone stares
Gold, coal, a bloody diamond
Everything's traded, lives degraded
Africa, my Africa, I know so well
Guns blazing, wars a raging
No rain, no grain, population with hunger pain
Wilderness retreats where humans meet
Malaria, mosquito born hysteria
Hyena calls, a lion roars
Africa, my Africa, I know so well
Witchdoctor belief, the mans a thief
Muti making, money taken, knuckle bones shaken,
Throw the bones, skinny man quaking
Superstitious dread, powdered vultures head
Goats throat cut, ancestor pleasing
Africa, my Africa, I know so well
Habitats shrinking, a duiker drinking
Rhino horn, elephants tusk, money lust
Charcoal making, our forests forsaken
Aids, ebola, a broken molar
Africa dying, nobody crying
Africa, my Africa, I know so well
Dictator for life, a stupid wife
Life is cheap, broken bodies in a heap
A leopard coughs, a baboon bark
Gangsters fighting, drug addicts scoring
Corruption, consumption, businessmen laughing
Africa, my Africa, I know so well
The rains have come, a cowhide drum
Wildebeest mating, zebra migrating
The grass is green, landscape clean
Thunder clap, lighting strike, a stole bike
People sowing, maize a growing
Africa, my Africa, I know so well
Choking dust, untamed lust
Political lies, rugby tries, meaty pies
Little round huts, kids in the dust
Fat cows, little black pigs, a cockerel crowing
Turtle dove calling, a blood red morning
Africa, my Africa, I know so well
"Vegan"
The blaise of red
hits the butcher’s paper
like molten crayon
thick and clumpy
perhaps there's some
truth?
in that old
saying;
a watery grave
the write;
it’s child’s play.
all that said,
and done,
dead meat
inside a bellyfull
grows rancid
the mind turns
verdant woodland green
the write not cut
turns positively pure
let’s say
Vegan

"Are their heads off?"
shouted the Queen.
"Their heads are gone,
if it please you, your Majesty!"
Hey, I've got me a plan to survive World War Three
And it doesn't involve living deep in the sea
With a mermaid named Maddy from that '80s movie
Or a grey-skinned E.T. hoping to crossbreed with me.
There's a bunch of big blokes known as Bigfoot to some
And they live in the woods where most humans won't come
Though they've entered our culture as the years have gone by
They are still seen as legends and old myths, that's no lie.
See, in spite of their fur and their size they're quite smart
For their fondest desire is to live well apart
From us primates who ravage the Earth without pause
Like the virus that spreads through its host - just because.
Called by Yeti and Sasquatch and still other things
They refer to themselves as "Jemah" and are beings
Who, unlike the poor bipeds that include me and you,
Can converse without speech, like our pets often do.
Though the tallest are known to have grown to nine feet
And they stink like old garbage, not to mention dead meat
I shall fashion my life on this heavenly lathe;
I'll make Sweet Thing my wife, and I won't have to bathe.
In Georgia we get a little taste of Hell with the summer heat,
Surely without our AC we would be dead meat.
It feels like a roaring campfire when you go outside,
You are covered in sweat, and want to run back inside.
It makes you wonder how hot Hell would be,
Although it feels like Hell now at 105 degrees!
We had better live as good as we can be...
The devil won’t be serving any southern iced tea!
Komodo dragon has serrated teeth
And anything crocodile grabs in his jaws is dead meat
The flowers make nectar that is sweet
But everything that lives must eat
Nature can balance it all
But we believe in existence of soul
Is there more
Something beyond evolution’s control
That which truly might be bliss
It is evolution that needs no reference point through abyss
As intelligence from this point will grow
The great tree of life rises like spring flower from beneath the snow
Once Pat was approached at the corner street
By Johnny, with his offer, indiscreet.
She pulled out her poet's wit
With sharp metaphoric grit,
And blew his macho off into dead meat.
March 30, 2023
I once knew a pirate named Pete
There's nothing that he wouldn't eat
He once swallowed a whale
But then choked on the tail
And now he himself is dead meat
Could you be the Trojan horse,
To bypass the defences of my heart?
Let harmless acts of kindness, run a course,
Break all barriers, to the tiniest part
For once there was, a fancy conqueror,
With soldiers and horses, and tall banners,
In the stomping ground, there was such tremor,
She was fearful and bold, in all manners
She battered my strong gates, scaled my wall,
Rained upon me rocks, and fiery arrows,
My good soldiers, one by one came to fall,
There was much sorrow, on their death throes
Woe be my army, vanquished and beaten,
Torn apart in the blitz, of sudden attack,
All of them stood, until thoroughly smitten,
True warriors’ courage, they never did lack
So alas for me, I did surrender,
My forts and castle, and kingdom whole,
Lest all that remains, be torn asunder,
I gave her my all, from King to Fool
She took it all, and claimed as her own,
I played the Jester, upon her feet,
Settled herself, on my sorry throne,
Never did knew, my heart’s dead meat
At first it was easy, to her bend my knees,
For she was radiant, and beyond compare,
My woeful sorrows, she banished with a kiss
An empress divine, she was my lady fair
It came to pass, she turned a bad leaf,
Here acts were no more, of a fair sovereign,
She became hard, and wearyingly stiff
Upon us both settled, a palpable strain
I never realized, she had her sights,
To another domain, richer than mine,
Her inflamed passion, ebbed to dim lights
In her mind formed, a betrayer’s design
Then she announced, in my once great hall,
How she intends, to march once more,
To another conquest, ripe for the fall,
Greater things she said, lies for her in store
She assembled once more, her great army,
Mightier ever, than the one who came,
Her ranks has swelled, strengthened by the bounty,
Of my kingdom conquered, that she made tame
The dust she stirred, with abrupt departure,
Took the longest time, to finally settle,
A bitter-sweet moment, my life’s great torture,
But stand up I did, with my hard won mettle
Before her I thought, I’m consigned to be alone,
Live only for myself, without for others- care,
Never imagined, to foolish love I’d be prone
Now cruel melancholy, upon my face- stare
"Ennui Sets In”
Whenever pen is placed
Between purloined phalanges,
When my mind unfolds and tears along the seams,
I know it’s time to move my thoughts,
Through the underground;
That dark crusty void
Of dreary dreams diminished,
Where loose hell raisers floss and shine,
Comb and spray,
As drowning voices backwash yesterday’s histrionics,
Dark-eyed winches peek through the
Centers of dead doughnuts;
Bleacher seats rust and wallow
In half-moon emancipation,
Ennui sets in…
My bow tie knows all the answers.
I cry and beseech for all those tomorrows
To resurrect, to pontificate, to loose
The bowels of screaming sunsets, yet sutured.
I flinch. I sigh.
Force majeure got in the way.
Polka dot panacea,
Wretched weasels in the underbrush,
Prufrock is the metaphor to mangle, impugn, vivify,
And otherwise squeeze until the cows come home.
I’m a poet without a message.
My heart pumps vexations of vaseline,
I am dry and empty
Like the musty moans of sweet madness,
Emanating elusively
From the hollow of ancient days,
Amidst unanswered questions,
At the fork in the road,
Two blocks northwest of my last dying breath,
I am the last sunset!
Ennui sets in.
Twilight vivisection holds the door open this time.
There is no respite,
From Raphael’s regurgitated Renaissance.
He jumps backward,
Through the darkening dissonance,
Dissolved, dismayed, dumbfounded.
Skipper Frank lies dead in the glittering gutter.
The Pancake Man melts into the waxworks.
Madame Tussaud wonders why.
Ennui sets in.
Dead meat saliva feeding
The roses of Robespierre.
Little Lord Fauntleroy is mixing martinis, and
A dozen dainty dames are dancing
Past the midnight of my time.
A blue trumpet, buzzing in the steamy shadows.
Lapping corpses line the phosphoric hillsides;
It’s not what it appears to be.
Truth and beauty perceived in the morning mirror.
Ennui sets in.
