Premium Member Pretty As a Hummingbird

The attention span of a hummingbird
She plays the part of the buffoon
With stale trite corny jokes
And mindless ramblings of a simpleton
She plays the lunatic
Filling my head with rubbish
Not a spark or inkling
That silence is meant to be
Appreciated and treasured
She spews out her platitudes
One after the other
Just mindless chatter
Shared indiscriminately
Unabashed and shamelessly
Endlessly going about
Littering perfect silences
But she is pretty

A Chinese lad was at table dawdling with his pork and rice.
This upset his mama-san who reprimanded him in a trice!
"Clean your plate! Children in America are starving, son!"
And she continued to berate him - her tirade had only begun!

"Your papa-san has a great job while dads in America are on the dole.
Our economy is booming while that of America is lagging, on the whole!
Papa makes good money to provide Americans with the things they need.
You should be very thankful for the jobs they send here, yes indeed!"

"Kids in America can't get a job even with a college education,
But, son, America will provide you with a job in any old vocation!
This is the land of opportunity, my boy, thanks to American capitalists!
You must appreciate all they have done for us Chinese communists!"

"Not so long ago your father and I didn't have a yuan to our name.
Now we have a house and brand new car - life will never be the same!
So I don't want to hear any of your sass or fiddling with your food.
Thanks to the generous Americans, they have lifted our nation's mood!"

"I want you to clean your plate and grow strong to follow in your dad's shoes.
Uncle Sam needs you to make TVs and shirts or anything else they choose.
No more lip! Clean your plate! I want to see those chopsticks flying!
Think about the kids in America who'll got to bed tonight hungry and crying!"

Idol Chatter

I’m so confused, what do they want?
Those judges seem to goad and taunt
One week they ask for something new
Then criticize when you try to!

To my dawg, Randy, I’ll throw a bone
For Paula, I’ll make it my own
For Kara, I’ll be RIDIC-U-LOUS
And, for Simon, I'm meticulous

What will I do this summer, now?
I'll miss my Idol nights, and how!
I wonder if Kara'll be back
Or if Simon will cut some slack

To the darker side this show appeals
But I love my Randy J. for REALS
And Paula just can't help but be
Her gushing self, oh my oh, me!

Till next winter, I'll have to wait
And with each teaser I'll take the bait
And sit, transfixed before the set
For the greatest Idol season yet!

I sensed that my bladder might be angry at me
as recently it screams of urgency.
The other day when I heard loud chatter, I said
"dear bladder, what ever is the matter?"
He said, "lately you don't listen so I have to shout
in order for you to let fluids out.
I've always been loyal and had your back but
please remember I'm only a sac. If you keep
stretching me I'll get out of whack."
After our little brain to body conversation I
now listen to my bladder to avoid his indignation.

"You'll find more peace in your life if you refuse to listen to idle chatter."
                                                                    ~ by poet

When a squirrel does it, he sounds like the Madd Hatter
But when doves coo it, it's more like romantic chatter
Chickens cluck pecking for grain that makes them fatter
and Meerkats jabber as a warning signal to "SCATTER!"

Often defined as the noises made by monkeys and birds
but I've heard such gibberish spoken by humans in words
and clinical conversations of dialogue by high-tech nerds.
I wonder if baaing and neighing is chatter among herds.

Chatter can also be considered as gossip or tittle-tattle
or as irrelevant talking, which is idle or foolish prattle.
Perhaps used in bovine circles as mooing among cattle
and the goo goo sound of a baby when shaking a rattle.

I've known a talker or two who I'd label chatter bugs
who can become more annoying then crawling slugs
That's not the kind of people I'd want to give big hugs
for their chatter might persist until I'd need ear plugs.

There's muttering and piffling, cackling and yammers
who'd talk day and night til you put on your jammers.
With nonstop chit chat, they blabber in noisy clamours
until you can make it stop with whacks from hammers!

Matrons decked in thick jewelry
who find pleasure in soft chuckles,
exploring the art of rumor
long their hours... fulfilled or empty?

Hooting And A Chit, Chit, Chatter

Monkeys jumping from limb to limb
In the trees above
Leaves rattle as the limbs are
Bounced and pounced
While back on their route
A two-day trip to the family tree

“Ouch!” Muse said
With a splinter in his finger
All the monkeys stop to get a peek
One starts scratching another helps
They all start picking and eating
Fleas off each other’s back

Monkeys jumping from limb to limb
In the trees above
Leaves rattle as the limbs are
Bounced and pounced
While back on their route
A one-day trip to the family tree

“Oops! “ Muse said
Couldn’t quite reach the limb he flinched and fell to the ground
Like a coconut falling onto dry brittle leaves below
With a goose egg bump on the top of his head,
He opened his eyes to discover the sight of another
Monkey see, monkey do

Monkeys jumping from limb to limb
In the trees above
Leaves rattle as the limbs are
Bounced and pounced
While back on their route
To the family tree

Hooting and a chit, chit, chatter
They all came to a screeching halt
A river stands in their way

“Oh my, what are we to do?” One said

They all gathered by the bank
Intertwining their tails and legs with
Stretched out arms, making a monkey chain
With the best swimmer in the lead

Muse safely got them across
To the other side
Where their family tree resides

Hooting and a chit, chit, chatter
With the rest of the monkeys
Who were waiting to greet their guests
That were on a quest

Chatter

chatter
continuous
banter which numbs the brain
chafing background noise that belies
patience and composure squandered away
meaningless, dreary remarks told
about nothing central
drifting weary
chatter

The gray clouds are saturated
 A steady downpour falls
Moisture to mature spring flowers
Cleanse the air and all

Droplets steadily pour from leaves
Every portion washed cleaned
The pecan tassels wait to open
Their nectar insects will glean

Fog fills the creek's deep holllow
Penetrates every crack
Its moisture chills the old body
The emotions it racks

Tree frogs enjoy the wet cool morn
Chrip and click with their glee
Their constant chatter fills my being
Almost entices one to flee

The budgie chatters.

     The canaries ignore him.

           He just talks louder.

Raving, ranting, and babbling on,
He went on in endless chatter,
Screeching words that really didn't matter,
So early in the morning he screeched,
The sound so unpleasant to the ears,
Not caring to whom he would give offense.

An old black crow sitting on a wire
Outside overlooking my window,
Screeched on in endless chatter,
The world around him really didn't matter,
He didn't care if anyone watched
As he ranted on endlessly.

Chatter

all morning
chatter of the well-meaning
just nod and stare
blackbirds settle on a wire
silently watch each other

Quote By Poet "Chatter ~ Many words all with no meaning."

Chatter~many words all with no meaning
I think your words need screening
you sound so very crazy
is your mouth being lazy
or does your mouth need a good cleaning

Honorable Mention

Idle Chatter

Idle chatter, ladies natter, men are nervous, children clatter
round and round never sitting still
cannot wait much longer ‘til.
Here she is in all her splendour,
perfect posture , lips are tender
full of kisses for a true love beau.
Smiling happy celebration
long awaiting jubilation
excited happy little faces
jump up and squeeze through spaces
have to be there have to see
what will happen what will be.
Music plays choir sings
tears of joy this moment brings.
Silence whispers nervous tension
they say ” I do”
No apprehension.
Music plays choir sings
Congregation join the Hymns
Flowers thrown and petal scatter
Cake is eaten, ladies natter.
