It was “Death” you drew.
You rolled that slip of paper
between your fingers
thin as onionskin,
and dropped it in your pocket.
Pastel lady,
did you wish to spare
us? You fluttered fingers
over the basket, and drew out
“Patio Party,”
a subject we must address
before we meet again.
How many great poems
have been penned on Death?
How many on a
Patio Party?
skirted, wind blown from afar
I was not to be late for the affair
bells struck midnight
and there were two left in in the square
twelve strokes to signal we were there
we circled right
looking for a place to disappear
tongues tendered to the herd
we kissed
my bones bent to your will
it was late
stars begged us to stay
the moon in her blushed
less than casual rose state
checking out as clouds ruffled by
we were high
and you, smokin'
like you always do
the time, the place, the memory
the face
fingers dancing as we knew the end
much more than the beginning
heartbeats pausing
pleasing, my ears
romance, encapsuled
in the singing
desire, a choir of one
and we won
thirty beats, pulsating
blood in-between the bludgeoning
a sense of belonging
longing for days to never come
nights slashing through the dark
butchering arms
grasping
charred, bodies
steam
whistling as she walks away
What is your assignment? Why are you here?
Do you know your purpose and are you prepared?
Many of us are lost and in a state of confusion
We don't know our purpose and have come to no conclusions
We need to realize that it's our attitude and relationship with Christ
Which will determine our altitude and our aptitude in this life
To not concede during seasons of chaos and destruction
To believe that God has our back with a heavenly production
To comprehend that the Lord God answers to no one
As He is the Creator of everything under the sun
To fully understand that God makes the final choice
Amen, so be it He has the final voice
And it does not matter how complex or crazy is the task
Your assignment is to do whatever the Lord God asks
And you don't have the luxury to participate in the decision
For God's plans are designed with heavenly precision
He knows what you're capable of and what you can endure
And He will fully equip you to do your assignment and more
Just have the spirit of excellence when getting the task done
As it will separate you from those who always cut and run
For the beauty of excellence highlights the ugliness of complacency
And complacency is the trait that God had no desire to see
A God sized assignment requires that you do your best
And with a God shaped attitude you will ace the test
But first and foremost do a true self examination
To see if you're still able to handle the situation
To now think critically and take a second look around
To see if you're still operating with all cylinders on the ground
And if a God sized shift must be made
A new horizon in your life will be laid
And every aspect in you will be rearranged
So that you can bring about true change
Never forget that the depth of your God relationship in this life
Will be the foundation of how you worship Christ
Just don't get it twisted by misunderstanding your assignment and your role
You can't replace God for you ain't got that kind of power nor control
Just pray that the Lord God finds favor in you
And that His grace and mercy will come pouring through
A God sized assignment requires a God shaped attitude
Just be excellent when doing the task that for you God did choose
I saw a movie today
it was old and black and white
Looking for a memory that
never left my sight
An old woman quite insane
but less than fear and fright
A subject in a story called Classic
from another time and life
I wondered of her role being
of what would I requite
I'd seen the same story
told in modern lights
Her name Miss Habersham
and quite the character was she
No sooner than seeing her demise
was the ideal of what she'd be
Money distinguishes many things
even back then you see
Upper class and lower class
and understanding your degree
The Atlantic is an ocean
they say is a great divide
Customs, accents and boarders
divide in comprimise
But every story has a theme
including yours and mine
We each must find that thing
we love to satisfy
I'd never read the story
it never was assigned
But heard it's authors named
more than thousands of times
his story issues warnings
with artful poetry inside
A satisfied imagination
the ending would surely hide
The love intrest dramatises
with conflict and revelations
always the stumbling block
and unforgiving complications
Her name would be Estella
a tool of "Sick Fancy"
Miss Habershams clever device
for making men unhappy
But give away the ending
"Thou Shalt Not" comes to mind
I now know Miss Habersham
what she was and why
Dad not all should be called by this name, for it is an honor and a duty. Some call us
father, some say daddy and some just call us pop...no matter how you say it? If you fail
to do any of these assignments, you failed not just your child, but everyone.
I'm a chef, a maid, a parent, a teacher, a lawyer, carpenter, Plummer, painter, doctor,
trash man, chauffer, guard, friend, enemy, Sheppard, defender and daddy. I get days off
sometime… but my real pay comes when I teach my children correctly, I work some nights
and sometimes even on my day off when needed or when called, I only get off
when sick but always still on guard...This is not a job but an assignment from God... and God
knows... that we all will suffer if I should fail any part of my assignment, but when I get it
right? Angels rejoice and God smiles!
inspired by and shamelessly ripped off of "Easter, 1916" by William Butler Yeats
I have heard from hushed voices
Of connections new and old
Underneath the light of the candle
About the table we were told.
About the retribution through blood
Brought on by discovery
Through a night in the pub
From a disillusioned companion
Around the fire at the club
A terrible beauty had been born
The revolution has begun
Where the motley was once worn
Godzilla, Sunday afternoon movie
The words do not match, groovy
Think I'm turning Japanese?
Think my life is much ease?-Please!
Green lizard toy causes anxiety.
Mom I was able to finish the limerick assignment, finally.
Hope you like it.
I have assigned it to David Dotson to keep the game going.
Assignment
Assignment of motivation, I imbibed in lectures
Could be written, later too, in inscriptions and papers
I’ve found one sister, motivated, by self nature
Morning, day, evening, all the time, is same for her
To provide service for guests, she quickens, as wind
Delivering, mind, hands and smiles curing with tender
Inspiration, I knew, sprouts, from such hearts, always
She is beautiful, by heart, does not miss, to share love
Smiles and welcomes, to colleagues and visitors
Love, from her springs, winning patient’s hearts
Such feeling, sure is, lead, to rear and cure
I believe, NHS can put pride, upon such sister
She is one of spirited sister, lovelier, Clare Thatcher
These lines, to offer her, a drop, from ocean of love.

Minutes eleven
soon it will be seven,
time is ticking,
I like knitting,
I have a horse,
do you like my porsche,
time is divine,
will you be mine?
What to walk along
Beside me side by side
Where life is a Primrose
We are walking along
Primrose Path

The Seed—a Fiction Narrative Verse by James E. Lee Sr a Alexander Chee ASSIGNMENT
The situation is a fond memory;
More precise a fallacy;
I’m always…
Wasn’t all that aware
Nor, did I care
Family members most
Saw that I was an oddity
Around the teen years
Didn’t partake of alcohol, drugs nor marijuana
I thought not myself handsome
Wasn’t a athlete
Wasn’t a super-nerd, but was nerdy
Back when the biggest job going for the black-man was packing house, custodian, or construction
Minimum wage was $1.65 an hour
Gasoline only 25 cents a gallon
A quiet voice
Quiet touch
A soft-quiet leader of such
Collector of comics (only) Marvel™
Collector of records and albums (mainly) Motown™
Self-proclaim expert on both fronts
Some out-of- town cousin as we were children stole some comics (got them back)
All my female cousin looked to me for the music stats
Didn’t have to be rich and if you were poor or middle income
One could (at least I did) afford the purchasing of the entire Marvel comic runs back in the 1960’s and 70’s
My father though it troubling
But he thought now that I found out later in life, he was alright
Because I wasn’t out there stealing and robbing
All my allowance and most of my teen job monies went to Comics, Records Arts and crafts
But in the day when comics were 12, 15, 25 cents
And 45’s and LP’s were 99 cents and $1.99/$3.99
If collect-ability were a billion dollars then I guess I’m the richest man in Omaha
If the knowledge I glean from all those comics stats were a Jeopardy championship game
Then I’d be the son of Stan Lee (His real name was Stanley Lieber thought)
Self-proclaim expert on both fronts
Marvel Comics™ and Motown Records™
I think if I could live my life again, I’d do the same (all over)
But if I’d were birth in this decade with the cost of things now… Maybe not???
OH!!!! YEAH I WOULD
lol ;)
For you see in creativity one needs to start with

The Assignment
The Assignment
I understood
Whether it was bad or good
The Assignment was to do
What I was instructed to do
What happens if you don't have a clue
How do you lean not towards your own understanding?
When life becomes so demanding.
How do you bounce back ?
Keep yourself on track !
It's like being a car
That needs an alignment
When you understand the assignment
I understood
The Assignment
I understood well
I just want to pass the assignment and excel
(Repeat 1x)
Verse 2
Pen and paper
Paper and pen
I am ready for the assignment
Taking it all in
Write the notes
Take heed
Giving myself unselfishly
Turning the page
One page at a time
No rushing
Because I will miss
Miss something I needed
Nourish my soul
Lord feed it
I can be wrong
Sometimes Im right
Lord just continue to shed your light
Show me my purpose
Keep reminding me that I'm worth it (worth it)
All the blessings
Keep them coming
I just want to run and
Then stop never won't my blessings blocked
I understood
The Assignment
I understood well
I just want to pass the assignment and excel
(Repeat 1x)
Hook
The Assignment , the test
I promise to give it my best
(Repeat 1x)
I understood
The Assignment
I understood well
I just want to pass the assignment and excel
(Repeat 1x)
(Repeat until chorus fades)

I really like this project
That my lit teacher gave me.
It's as if you told a sailor
"You must go join the navy."
I wish we did more poem in class,
I think they're pretty cool.
Because there are so many
Interesting poetic tools.
A hammer will hit the reader hard,
Nails will make sure it sticks,
A drill will pierce them to the heart,
And a latch will make it click.
Poems are quite amazing,
A fact I must admit.
So don't be afraid to start to write,
Just have some fun with it!
