Premium Member An Illicit Tryst

The sick and the injured had been his whole life
He’d never found time to ensnare a good wife
He’d slept with a patient and soon was arrested
“It just happened once,” to the court he attested

He’ll run no more x-rays, he’ll set no more bones
He’d made the mistake that no jury condones
No more operations, no drugs to dispense
The judge said, “The public demands recompense.”

“Your claim that it happened just once was complacent,
There is no excuse to lie down with a patient.
A long prison sentence is what you will get
Such a shame… for I hear you were quite a good vet.”

Premium Member You Were Always on My Mind

I laid beside your softness in the night,
Felt warmth in your fingers and open eyes.
Then you trusted me, as I held you tight,
Our love, attested by unguarded sighs.

Such love and beauty were a precious gift,
But there's another story to be told.
With a cruel heart, I'd set you adrift,
And was not there for you to have and hold.

I knew that you deserved another man -
A man who could give you what you were worth.
Long ago you left to follow your plan,
So, you'll not know, I will soon leave this earth.

Up in heaven, I don't know what I'll find,
But on earth, you were always on my mind.

HNY 2024

Onward Christian soldiers
Armed with your risks and dares
Proclaiming your new year resolutions
Assessing your evolution
From all your years of resolving
Solving, dissolving and involving
With all your learning and experience
With your mastered resilience and expedience
From seasons of pain and agony
That birthed your compelling testimony
With memories of good old days
With hope of righteousness that pays
With seared assurance
Of peace within whatever turbulence
Of salvation availed to all men
Of God’s promises yes and Amen
Of the unchanging God even in changing times
Of His ever new mercies each morning in rhyme
Of His long life attested to by the years
That we welcome in pomp, color and cheers
Ever to the believer so sure a premium
Even 24 years into the millennium
And may we know what we live for
Even as we hope and pray for many more

Premium Member Shadows Dancing In a Moonless Night

Is our love a dance macabre?
A dilly dallying with death?
Or a mystic encounter of unabated love?
Will it last? Will it end?
So many questions left unanswered,
So many uncertainties attested,
All cumulative in a death wish
As emotions run devilishly amok.

My soul screams with this unpredictability,
Its echoes rampage through my veins,
As bubbling blood courses through
Twisted arteries, through havoc and chaos.
Is it the folly of chained love?
The unearthly silence of togetherness?

My lips pronounce your name but no one answers.
I realize my questions will never be answered.
Our togetherness is but a charade,
Shadows dancing in a moonless night.
Your allure is just too much to bear,
I dare keep it no more
So let our ways head into different tracks.
Henceforth I'll dance alone.
A dance macabre.

Premium Member Wrongful Arrest

She barged through the doors of the bank with her gun
And shot the security guard just for fun
She fired her gun and yelled “Down on the floor,
I’ve shot me one man, I could shoot a few more!”

One customer, Jenna, said, “Hold up, you cretin,
You half witted loser, it’s jail you’ll be gettin,
You charge in this bank with that soppy old pistol
I think I might kick your ass from here to Bristol.”

The robber, fired two bullets into the ceiling
And said, “I shall shoot anybody not kneeling.”
Jenna said, “I’m gonna laugh as you fry.”
The robber said, “You’d better reach for the sky.”

Armed police turned up; one lady arrested
Based on the ‘facts’ that another attested
The robber’s at home playing video games
And Jenna’s in jail for calling her names

And all the police wonder what to expect
Now that they’ve lost any public respect
At lunch break they wonder how low they could stoop
When they’re as inviting as watered down soup.

[What a coincidence; a poem about someone called Jenna enduring an injustice. Pure chance… honest, Guvnor!]

Premium Member It Is What It Is

Rodin’s thinker felt deeply misrepresented in his pose
he had been simply doing his business in privacy but
paparazzis had caught him seemingly sitting on a rock
nothing on his mind but having a pee after a night out
too much beer with his mates in the pub and all that
was on his mind was whether there were painkillers
in the vanity unit to soothe his nauseating hangover

twitter went mad and the tabloids fronted his image
raised him onto the dubious pedestal of iconic status
attested him with clarity of thought and contemplation
he had only been looking at the bathroom mirror and
counting tiles and toothpaste stains in the marble sink
did not mind so much that he was nude in portraits
they painted because the truth must be stark naked
and he was not one to falsify events and their cause

but taking his ablutions out of context made him
feel shame rather than reason for he was abused
in nature’s call and his wife might object but he would
never again sit down on the loo when having a tinkle

The Lingering

I feel something
I do, I do

the comfort in the ache
salting the cut of my lip
the blood and her drip

sleepless nights
atoned and attested
the trials
tying me in knots

held captive
allowed only
to swing from her gallows
her hallows of eve
as hollow as they seem

and I see thru the blackness
nothingness
blinded by the barren brush
as the breeze blows
her winter's snow

and I am cold
so very cold
a weathering rock of stone
with frozen crystals as my bones
and never, never
have I felt so all alone

a breach in the existence of time
unable to speak
unable to reach
silenced, drown
in invisibility
lingering
in lifeless remnants of blue

Premium Member Longeivity

A cousin and a friend both lived to witness an unpleasant surprise.
They loved life but wanted their money to live longer than them.
My cousin hit the jackpot in gambling and decided to delay
or avoid paying the income tax thinking that he would be
Dead before the IRS discovered his plan. Well, he was surprised
When he realized that he was blessed with longevity that allowed him to live longer than his winnings. His luck and his fortune ran Out, resulting in him paying the tax.

My friend acquired wealth over time but ran short on money as his
Life was being blessed with longevity. Standing alone one day and
Looking sad, I inquired of the source of his unhappiness whereupon
He informed me that he was living too long because his money was
Running out. I concluded that he would rather be dead than poor.

I also concluded that Life is indeed a splendor thing, but it can also be
A very surprising thing as attested by my cousin and my friend.

Premium Member Lady of Virtue

Marking yourself in the glow of service
lady of virtue are you along significance-height
shining beyond worldly stardom...
while becoming a blessing by God's grace.

Overcoming poverty's grip
your industriousness with persevering courage
helped lift your family...
granting your siblings opportunities to progress.

Poured out with heavenly provisions
you constantly reach-out with care
while sharing the Gospel...
and aiding those in need.

Exemplifying helpfulness’ gesture
constantly revealing your kind soul
you're always extending generosity...
attested by your husband and children.

Magnifying the Lord* with praise as your heart's priority
you're a paragon, worthy of emulation
mortifying flesh with the Spirit's sword...
since your love anchored upon faith* in Christ radiates.

*Proverbs 31:30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

Premium Member Glad Learning

Learning is fun…
…attested by my Geography class
enabling me to own a Madrid post card prize
in finding Segovia midst jigsaw puzzle bits.

Learning becomes a joyous endeavor…
…assured by my Grammar experience
when laughter burst out as I uttered:
“See, go, via Madrid in visiting Spain.”

Learning continues as a jubilant pursuit
…addressed by my Values subject
while I was exhorted to pray and support
missionaries going to Segovia and Madrid.

Learning still gladdens me
…aroused by my Computer assignment
to search in the internet Segovia and Madrid
making me a virtual tourist of those places.

Learning more about God is the best
...adhering to His truth*, freeing soul from deceit
for faith's triumph and hope's anchor
toward joyous enlightenment in His love.

*2Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
