I don't know if anyone noticed but I gave out a lot of first places in my last contest.

I don't usually give out more than 1 first place -

so hopefully - all of you know I MEAN IT!


It is hardest to judge when more than one form is permitted. The group seems to like this best but for the judge; it is like judging apples & oranges against watermelons?

I don't like being restricted so I try not to restrict YOU. Please DO realize NONE of these forms were haiku and they were fine poems. If haiku is too restrictive DO use one of these forms. Read this beauties ... please ...

So the meter is called trochaic octameter. The poem is now called a narrative, in its day it was called a reverie, a poem of remembrance. Since it is written in grouping of 6 lines it can also be called sestet

(Once u/pon a /midnight/ dreary). This kind of syllable pair is called a trochee. Since there are eight syllable pairs in a line, we call it "octameter" (octo- standing for eight, as in octopus).

Debs, as I read the "rules" of what premium members are supposed to get here, I noticed it said the ability to post pictures with poems. What am I not getting? Do they just mean we can only do it in that section called "about the poem?"

I want to try more Dixdeux O that's a very useable form! [I adore verse with a repeated line!] and to do it in a string like Mark did is a great idea!

wow,I LOVE how you put the pictures with the poems. This is marvelous, Debs. i think your contest was very nice because you allowed us to use other forms besides haiku , which most poets, myself included, are often butchering here at Soup. Kimo and Sijo are my new loves. A moment frozen in time, this is so much easier to do than haiku!!!

yes it is!! and we don't need to give up our poetic devices! BUT I grew so much as a poet from finally learning the eastern way of thought through haiku, though I do feel Kash's haiku are much better than mine ...

Dear Debbie, I really thank you for the place you gave me in your contest.. This not to uplift my name but this to create awareness that some others just do not even dare to care.. I enjoyed learning these different forms and trying two and three of them.. however, i settled for that one cause of the alarming saddening news I heard from here and well, with the injustices happening here........ I really enjoyed all your winner's list.. it's a variety of spectacular images of nature and great great touching writes.:) Thank you very much..... :) may God bless you always and I really have fun reading all the list... In behalf of those who felt what I felt when I write that I thank you (them) too
